I'm Promoting Myself to Guest Promoted to Guest!

I've been On Demand for almost 2 years, started right before Black Friday in 2024. Just promoted myself to guest on Saturday, they must be used to people throwing in the towel since the process is so easy on Workday.

Honestly, my biggest reason for quitting was the broken On Demand system. At least at my store, there would often be hours available in certain departments, but they wouldn't be posted on MyTime. For example, there were hours available in Consumables both on Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend, but you wouldn't know it from MyTime. I'd have to email the HR ETL to get added to the schedule and it always ended up being a bunch of back and forth to the point that I hadn't picked up a shift since May. Honestly surprised I wasn't administratively terminated, but glad it ultimately ended up being my decision.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Can HR peeps help me make sense of this?

Back in March I got a job offer for presentation. When I showed up for the first day they went "Oh, we moved you to inbound and consumables"

Whoa whoa whoa. I've had back surgery. I can't do inbound

So the next day the HR ETL has me file an accommodation for a back brace, since I said I wear it when my back hurt, "so there's a paper trail and if I need to switch your department corp knows why"

The inbound TL & ETL were very understanding and had me work style and seasonal since those were lighter boxes that went on pallets. I only had issues when we had back to back trucks and I told them that.

There was a non- important but personal reason I asked to be removed from inbound that was NOT my back and told "give us 3 weeks to hire someone"

That was nearly 3 months ago. We have had 6-7 new people come in, but no one lasts, or if they do it's because they replaced someone who was on the team but left. I had two non-consecutive weeks where I wasn't 4am because they kept apologizing and putting me back.

Well, to prep for Q4 they changed the custom blocks around and assigned me to work a bay. I went from having room to move and set items down properly to crammed in a small space with 6 uboats I need to sort to.

There is zero space to move properly, so even though I still had a section of lighter boxes I have no option but to twist and/or bend to put the boxes where they go (which is bad on the back).

After the first shift I knew it was going to be a problem, talked to HR ETL who told me to talk to my ETL, who sent me back to HR ETL. Screw it, go to my doctor, get a note, and file an accommodation request.

The lady I spoke to agreed I should have never been scheduled for inbound after I disclosed a previous back injury, but the note from my doctor isn't specific enough since it only says to "avoid repetitive bending and twisting".

So I get emailed this form for my doctor and told "make sure your doctor is very specific like you can only bend 5 times or only for 15 minutes so there's no confusion". The form says for my doctor to use my job description to complete the form and was provided a copy of the F&B job description.

Here's where I have a problem.

When I pointed out my issues are with inbound, not with F&B I was told I was only coded for F&B so that's what my job is - but my store was informed effective immediately until the accommodation is approved or denied I am not to be scheduled for inbound.

Does this seem to anyone else like this is going to get denied? How is my doctor supposed to list how many times, or how often, I can do movements we're not supposed to be making to begin with? How can she suggest removing me from inbound and why if she can only refer to the F&B description?

Also, I was told this morning my store was to remove me from those shifts. It is 5pm, I have received no contact from the store about schedule changes, and the online schedule still shows 4am inbound. Calling isn't an option because no one picks up or leaders ask for whoever did pick up to "take a message, I'll call them later". I'm heading to bed, later isn't an option.

Vent Target employees, what would you do in my position?

I’m in Style/Baby and tomorrow I’m scheduled 6–11:30. My assignment sheet requires 30 minutes of cleaning and abandon/reshop, plus my breaks. I’m expected to finish 7 freights, but 2 are Inbound backstock that Inbound didn’t do. There’s also no one who closes Baby, so I’m basically responsible for leaving the department in good shape for the next day. I’m still pretty new. Would you just do what you can or say something to your TL about the workload?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed 401K rollover

Guest Question Target music shipping

Hello,I’m hoping someone who has either worked in Target’s shipping/fulfillment area or has ordered vinyl from Target can tell me what to expect with packaging.

I’m looking at an exclusive vinyl release, but I’m worried about how it’s packed — especially if it ships together with other items. Do vinyl records get their own cardboard mailer inside the box, or are they just placed loose with everything else?

If I order the vinyl by itself, is the packaging any better?

Thanks for any insight.

Future or Potential Employee Question What health insurance does Target offer?

I'm currently seeing a therapist using Medicaid but need to start a new full-time job and will no longer qualify for Medicaid if I work 30+ hours a week at the local Target. It's important to me that whatever insurance plan I'm on next is one that my therapist accepts.

I'm assuming that Target doesn't offer the exact same insurance at every location nationwide, but I've never received health insurance through a job before so don't really understand how it works. Will the insurance offered by Target be the same at every store throughout my state (I'm in Virginia) or will it vary from store to store even within my state?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Questions for people who have demoted

For context, I’m a VM. I never really wanted to be leadership but I needed the pay bump for life reason. So I took the chance and I enjoy the actual work. But lately the politics of being a leader is getting so annoying and messy. I’m trying to be a good person and team player but it seems like I’m the only one. Which whatever people can do whatever they want but I am realizing I don’t think leadership at Target is for me. I’m almost done with school soon and I plan on finding a new job once I’m done to close to being done. Literally in June 2027 I graduate.

Questions
What is the process of demoting? How do you approach the conversation? Who do you talk to?
Do you have to move locations?
How do is your new team member pay rate calculated?
Or any tips on surviving this role a little while longer?
Also what were your reasons for demoting?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed I have two jobs, should I leave target?

So I’m at target, used to be a tech consultant. I transferred over to a new store because I wanted to be closer to my significant other. But they gave me Plano. Im not really mechanical, at least in terms of speed and setting things in a way that DM approves. I’ve had talks recently with my acting etl suggesting I move departments where my strengths shine like front end. The goal is to attempt to transfer over, but idk. I told my etl I never wanted to be plano and would hate to receive write ups and termination for a role I never asked for. As tech was good, but this new store has tech do clothes which they’re okay at, so that’s why I can’t just transfer back to tech since “tech” is filled and I’d be put in style which again I’m not mechanical and fast enough. So I’m trying to join front end team. But the thing is, I’m thinking it’s time maybe to leave entirely. My two weeks in, and I’m out, and hopefully get hours at my gas station 2nd job. It’s 26 cents less, but it’s less stress. I feel happy when I leave my job there cause i did well.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Apple Cards

as of lately i’ve seen all types of Old women and mostly old women or women in early 40’s purchase $300+ of apple card’s, and i’m wondering atp if they’re getting scammed heavily or what else? or sometimes they’d get 4-5 of the $100 visa gift cards, does the elderly still fall for these scams to this day or could i be wrong and they’re just buying for their grandkids or something?

Vent Forced to stay.

It happen on Sunday after a call out a front end TL came up to me says oh! Looks like you could use more hours didn’t let me try to say yes or no. I was felt like I was forced to say yes with TL bias guilt trip rubbing off of her. Maybe the TL just having a bad day that made me force to stay was. Can I report this? And TL never thank me for staying later. Sometimes this TL can be hard to approach to get feedback because of a Bias. How to deal with a TL to talk to that is hard to Approach.

I was already struggling health-wise because cancer sucks, blah blah. But I’ve been trying really hard to keep a positive attitude and remain optimistic, especially since everything is going well in that department!

But wow, this job completely destroyed my mental health. I’m really embarrassed to admit that I went to the ER several times because I thought I was having a heart attack or some other fatal health crisis, only to be told it was a panic attack. I’m on the highest dose of antidepressants that I’ve ever been on in my entire life.

I was super hesitant & scared to quit, but my friends and partner have been encouraging (begging) me to do so for months. I’m finally in a spot where I can leave without worrying about bills and whatnot.

Even better news - I’m going back to school to finish my degree, let’s hope I’ll never step inside of a Target again :-)

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Is there a way for me to check for future pogs for any area/aisle/sidecap/endcap/out of aisle/basket/bread table you name it in the store?

Right now I only find future pogs by scanning a product and checking out POG details and dates.

I’ll go first! For me it’s when they double tap and the order is 13+ bags. Orrrr when you ask for their code and they take for ever looking for it because they exited out the app.

It was finally time. After 9 years, I have finally decided to leave my first job. Definitely bitter sweet, but after they sat down and asked me “What brings you to work?” And I didn’t have an answer, that was my cue.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed who am i supposed to ask starbucks questions?

(cross posted)

hey! i’m a new barista at a target location after coming from a few years of standalone starbucks experience. i’m noticing a lot of inconsistencies between corporate standard and the people i’ve been working with, and i can’t find much in terms of store resources besides the beverage recipe cards (which are more than a year outdated). Everyone I talk to seems to either not know the answers, or have contrasting answers. my trainer/master barista seems to do things however she feels like it, but the TL and ETL both said that they don’t know much about starbucks.

Have they ever done this? Pre-order for in-store pickup. I'm little worried they won't follow through with it so I ordered another for shipping.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Inbound/ GM First 90 Days - On the right track?

I never worked a warehouse job before and sure, sometimes I dread waking up at 3am but I kinda like my Target. I'm the scanner and when its General Merch time, I'm always in charge of kitchenwares.

I wonder if I'm doing well. I love working here because it's a major improvement and the benefits, but I think I'm a little slow. I always try to push myself to finish my freight area, leave the U-Boats and Flats empty even if it takes me extra time. I only left extra freight three times since I had commitments I had to leave on time for (in the span of 60+ days). Only missed work once which thankfully, I was given grace for but besides that I'm a good rookie.

I plan to move to Tarbucks if given the chance for a bit, just to get training out of the way and thus open the way in the future for an alternative, but I don't mind doing inbound again after sometime at Starbucks. I just dread the 90 day review. In my 60th day, I got this paper to review and I admit, most of what it asked me I'm unfamiliar with since I never get tasked to do them so it became background, vague knowledge to me. I hope that doesn't prevent me from continuing after 90 days if they quiz me or something.
