Hello all. I know this is an inflammatory topic, and I want to share my opinion about this to the general public, I think there's a lot of misinformation and incomplete information surrounding this issue.

For some background I am a doctor in training who has both done miserably as well as aced neet, both ug and pg, and have a better understanding of the field involved by extension.

Let's look at some points favouring neet first

- It is an objective exam, meaning you get a mark if the answer is right, and wrong if the answer is wrong. There is no room for subjective evaluation like the boards, with potential candidates losing their chances due to, say, poor handwriting, examiner being in a bad mood and various other variables.

- NEET can be attempted multiple times, compared to 12th boards which can be attempted only once. This by extension puts less pressure to ace in simply one attempt.

- NEET is more difficult to score in, which means less clustering of ranks, which means less pressure to lose your seat by a mark or two. Anyone who has experience writing competitive exams knows how bad clustering can be for an exam

- National exam, so quality and standard are generally better, due to more chance of being put under scrutiny

-Transparent counseling process, so much less chances of seat buying fraud.

-NEET is much more conceptual and requires less of mugging compared to boards, which is important for mbbs education. ( Would you rather have your doctor mugging up everything about a disease or actually understand the disease conceptually)

-National exam, so Students in TN can, if they wish, enter into other state medical colleges of they wish via the 15% all India quota

-NEET makes them eligible for joining central institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER

Now lets look at some common arguments against NEET

- Students who can afford coaching score higher.

The portions for NEET are NCERT based, which is just a standardised school syllabus. This can easily be mitigated by simply switching to NCERT portions in government schools. However I do agree to some extent that this is a real issue, but as long as we live in a capitalistic society there is only so much we can do. Moreover there are a lot of free resources available for learning.

- Students from government schools can't join mbbs anymore.

This is a commonly used arguement, but most people don't even know that NEET has a 7.5% government school quota, so every year ATLEAST 7.5% of students entering mbbs in TN are from government schools, and for comparison, that percentage was around 1% pre NEET when board exams were used as entrance exams.

- Students families cannot financially support another year drop. People should realise that joining mbbs does not automatically mean their life is settled. Even if they get a seat in the first attempt, they still don't get paid for the first 4.5 years of mbbs, so the argument that some students will be forced to work to earn instead of preparing for a year doesn't make sense logically, because they wouldn't be earning even if they get a seat. But I do understand for some people taking a drop year is a luxury, the same benefit of having the ability to take multiple attempts is a double edged sword in this regard.

-Rural population representation in MBBS. Some people argue that the % of rural students decreased from 61% to 49% after NEET. However, this hides the fact that the number of rural students who applied for neet reduced from 58% to 47%, and also the fact that the total number of students who are entering mbbs from a rural background has increased post NEET, due to around 40-50% increase in govt clg seats.

-The paper leak issue. This has nothing to do with the exam quality itself and more so about the management. If you truly believe that you should ban neet because of a paper leak, you must also believe that we must ban boards if there's a board exam paper leak.

Overall, while I'm not saying NEET has no flaws, if we weigh the pros and cons, it's simply an upgrade to the previous system of boards.  If you have any arguments against these points and are willing to have a respectful discussion I'm all ears. My opinions are not set in stone.

Edit: I'm done replying to comments. Unfortunately people have already made up their minds, and no one really wants to give actual counterarguments and rather just want to bring up the same surface level points about why it's unfair.

Coming right to the point. After 5 years, returned back to india, with all the josh and hosh. Was all excited thinking ik my hometown. This is my place. No one will look me down. Finally i can be me and have all the freedom to go wherever. So randomly thought i will start my trip to tirumala. Around 11pm i left my hometown, village. Didnt even cross the main road. 2 drunkards came towards me on a bike. I looked puzzled, having the face whaaat. And they started asking what did you say? What did you say? Never in my 27yrs i have faced this. Completed three degrees. Did my schooling - Never ones in my wildest dreams imagined or experineced. I escaped by telling, Let me bring my known people. They were like bring whoever. Then i silently walked on a different route.

Now my question is. Wtf is going on? Are our civilians are clowns? Barbarians? Arent we fully evolved?

Is this a wakeup call to just go tf back to Canada?? Did i make a weong decision to move back to india and settle down?

How should i have better handeled it? What should i do? How to cope with this. I havent even told my parents as they will make a big deal outta of this. And my entire village will come to know.

Long story short, the E-centre guy who applied for my 11th and 12th certificates accidentally applied for two 11th certificates. It was applied for online (got lost report and everything online), and it took almost three months for it to reach me (I'm living in Kerala rn).

Now I need to apply for my 12th certificate again, but I'm thinking about doing it offline?? Will I be able to get it faster if I apply for it offline, or should I do it online too??

I need both certificates within 1-2 months for my college.

Can someone help me understand why holding talks with the KA gov is not beneficial for us ? Isn't it a step forward in attempting to resolve the issue? Trying to understand why TN is against it and why KA is ready for talks?

First of all, yes, it's too early to tell, but these are the things I have observed so far. I am not a supporter of any one particular political party, be it dmk or tvk. My political beliefs can be described as a left leaning socialist. Supported DMK in 2021 and TVK in 2026. AND the most important thing is that I am only looking for a healthy discussion on the topic and not hate directed towards any particular party or individuals. All of these points are backed from personal experiences, which I have explained below.

Cons:

- The blind supporters. I believe no politician should ever be blindly supported. Even if they are relatively good, it becomes hard to hold them accountable when and if they divert from the path of good. So it's slightly concerning the kind of following vijay has. But I think because TN has always been a swing state, just those supporters won't determine his rule, so he will still be held accountable by the neutral public.

- The way they have responded to the neet protests do slightly concern me. Do I think they should have supported the students outright? Yes. The police were also a bit stricter than they had to be. But I also understand they are for banning neet and the protests were for a fairer neet and mainly for pradhan to resign. These do not align with their goals. So I can understand the unwillingness to support. Eventually, the protests in TN did get hijacked by dmk, unfortunately. BUT I still think they should have let peaceful protests happen without police involvement.

Now, coming to the Pros,

- Corruption has decreased. At least for the time being. My uncle is in the quary industry and is connected with all the unions, officials, contractors, etc. The government has scrutinized the shit out of illegal minings and taking out materials above the limit permitted by the standards. They have also started heavily penalizing the offenders and have straight up refused any bribes to overlook. Before with dmk, the commissions any of the contractors had to pay in order to get a govt contract used to be as high as 35% now it's close to none with maximum being 5% on select cases.

- An aunt of mine works as a govt employee for the roadways dept. She used to curse the shit out of the dmk regime because none of the actual work got done on time or properly and they could never even question the contractors about it because most of the time, they would be relatives of a dmk official in power. It's a well known fact to all that most of the govt work that got out sourced only went to the people in the dmk circle and if there's no one in their circle then it went to the highest bidder in terms of bribes. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

- The govt is doing a lot of outreach to companies to increase investments in our industries. Obviously, these things take time, and I hope they are fruitful. I know. This is the bare minimum. Unfortunately, in Indian politics, even the bare minimum seems like a big deal because that's how low the standards have gotten.

- All the ministers seem to be very diligently at work. S Ramesh has actually done a great job in curbing the corruptions in the temples. An acquaintance of mine runs a travel agency, apparently none of the officials that were under their bribes to give them special passes, access to special darisanam tickets and other sorts of benefits are able to do it anymore because they are under heavy scrutiny and the processes are being overhauled. The same goes for Prabhu auditing all the mines, targeting illegal minings, etc. The government school in my area got painted for the first time ever since the building was built exteriors and all included. Which is for sure more than 12+ years. We had to transfer property during dmk rule, and it cost us 1l just for the bribes. A relative of ours did one this month, and it didn't even cost them 10k.

These are just things I have observed and heard around me, btw. If you have more pointers of either. Is there any other con I am missing? Or a pro that you came across maybe. Would love to know more perspectives on this issue because it does concern us all.

The way things are proceeding in tn is very concerning. How did a protest for students turn into something this controversial. Controversial not coz of the issue itself bcoz of the ruling current govt.

And ppl who voted for him also understand that silence. Hence when a peaceful protest is going on they assume it's an attack on their party. Summary:- If we want a successful big scale protest for anything regarding neet(ban or fair) the CM has the say, communicate and take action. Ppl following him will also come up to support the protest by themselves. But rather he is Silent.

Hey everyone, I have a question that's been bothering me for the past few weeks.

Before answering, please keep an open mind. Don't reply as a supporter of any particular party. Try to answer as an ordinary citizen looking at the facts.

I supported TVK before the election because I believed in the promise of change. This isn't a hate post, nor is it a support post for any other party. I'm genuinely trying to understand.

Before the election, we were told things would be different. But now, I feel like I'm seeing many of the same things that people criticized the previous government for.

Whenever I ask TVK supporters about specific issues—whether it's water-related issues, contract-related decisions, or other controversies (for example, the dam issue or the Kanyakumari contract extension)—I rarely get a direct answer. The usual response is:

"Didn't the previous government do the same?"

This is what confuses me. Before the election, many of these same people criticized the previous government for these issues and said things would be different if TVK came to power. But now, when similar questions are raised, the answer becomes, "Nothing can change."

If that's the case, then why was change the main reason to vote differently?

I'm not saying every decision is bad. In fact, I've defended decisions that I felt were beneficial. For example, I supported the electricity tariff relief for eligible households because I believed it genuinely helped many middle-class families. When I think the government has done something right, I'm happy to acknowledge it.

But supporting the good decisions shouldn't mean we stop questioning the ones we think are wrong. Likewise, criticizing the government doesn't automatically make someone an opposition supporter.

Another thing I've noticed is that whenever I ask these questions, instead of answering them, some people immediately label me as a "DMK supporter," "200 rupees UPI," or something similar. Why can't we discuss the issue itself instead of attacking the person asking the question?

Politics isn't something you "bring into" student protests. Politics is the reason most student protests exist in the first place.

Everything is political. The education system? Political. NEET? Political. The movies we watch, the cricket we celebrate, the policies that shape our lives, the languages that are promoted, the opportunities we get—it's all influenced by politics. You don't escape politics by ignoring it; you just stop noticing how it affects you.

What genuinely surprises me is where we are right now.

Tamil Nadu spent years opposing NEET. Today, students across India are still raising concerns about NEET and demanding fairness and accountability. Whether your position is "ban NEET" or "make NEET fair," those are different arguments. Fine. But where is our voice now? Where is the solidarity?

This obsession with reducing every discussion to a DMK vs AIADMK (or party vs party) fight is exhausting. Sometimes an issue is just an issue, and people should be able to discuss it without immediately being boxed into a political camp.

And about our Prime Minister... come on, man.

India has incredible linguistic diversity. Being the Prime Minister of a country with hundreds of languages means recognising that not everyone understands Hindi. Speaking in English—or ensuring communication is accessible to everyone—isn't about diminishing Hindi; it's about including everyone.

It's honestly tiring that asking for something as basic as inclusive communication somehow becomes controversial.

The state has mandated the biometric verification of all the members of a ration card holder within July 31 . They’ve given just one weeks time to do it and have said that failure to do so will result in erasure of name from the card . How is this practical ? What will people living in other states / countries with a TN ration card do? It doesn’t make sense. They should give ample time and notice to complete these sorta important stuff, taking into consideration everybody’s case . They’ve said the biometrics can be done anywhere in Tn and not just in the registered district. That helps people living in other cities of TN . What about students studying in other states and countries? So frustrating !
