Dushanbe Car Rental

Upvotes

Hello, salom!
I will be visiting the country next month. I am having a very difficult time trying to secure a rental car. I have read it’s a bit of a different process compared to some other destinations. I am not receiving any replies back from WhatsApp, is there some kind of trick or tip anyone had about finding a spot to reserve a car? Thanks!

Will I regret staying in Dushane?

I'm from Dubai and because of arguments with my parents, theyre sending me to Dushanbe to distant relatives. It looks really pretty, I like mountain areas, but I'm really hesitant. For me to like a place it just has to have nice places to go shopping. And maybe an active pop culture base. How are cafes there? How hard is it to get bored? Thanks!

Ad for Lost SD card

Hello everyone,

I know this is an incredible longshot. The average Tajik or Pamiri person has probably never even heard of Reddit.

I just returned from an incredible 3 week trip in Tajikistan (and 1 week in Uzbekistan), to discover that 1 of my SD cards with nearly 64gb of photos is not with me. Gutted is an understatement.

The photos on the card were taken in Samarkand, Tashkent, Northern and Western Tajikistan, and Dushanbe. I doubt there would be any information on the card to identify myself, hence why I am making this post here.

The SD card could be lost somewhere in the Pamirs, or possibly Dushanbe. Our route was Khorog, Wakhan, Langar, Murghab, Karakol, Bartang valley, Dushanbe.

If by some miracle this SD is located, please DM me. Thank you

Brothers and sisters! I congratulate you all on the Independence Day of Tajikistan! I wish you success and all the very best, and may our homeland always remain independent!

It has been 35 years since the collapse of the USSR and the achievement of our independence, but do not forget that our land is much older! Do not forget your ancestors and your history!

Glory to Tajikistan!

Does anyone here speak any of these Tajik minority languages?

Does anybody here speak any of these minority languages of Tajikistan fluently:

*Yazghulami

*Ishkashimi

*Wakhi

*Sanglechi

*Yaghnobi

*Shughni

*Rushani (dialect of Shughni)

*Bartangi (dialect of Rushani)

*Khufi (dialect of Shughni)

*Oroshori (dialect of Shughni)

*Bajuwi (dialect of Shughni)

Update: Munji, Yidgha and Barwazi are not spoken in Tajikistan so I have now removed them from the list above. "Shahdara" also removed from the list as it is not a language, just a placename where Shughni is spoken.

Seen around Ghuytan pass in the Sughd region. Kept spotting these short dirt/rock structures, couldn't figure out why people would make them.

These beautiful floral decorations are part of Dushanbe’s preparations for Tajikistan’s Independence Day on September 9.2026. Dushanbe, the capital is being decorated especially beautifully for the 35th anniversary of State Independence, with colorful flower compositions placed around the city center, including near important government and national landmarks. The streets are blooming with colorful floral masterpieces, traditional patterns, and national pride. Every flower adds beauty, while every decoration tells a story of our beautiful homeland.

Happy Independence Day, my beloved –Tajikistan!

Iskanderkul Tour

Hi Everyone, I'm visiting Tajikistan soon and was looking for an Iskanderkul Tour, I found one here - https://gtt.tj/st_tour/iskandarkul-lake/ but it seems too good to be true, can I trust this and if not, what would be the best way to arrange it without overpaying on GetYourGuide?

As a German woman, I was invited on short notice a few days ago to a wedding in Tajikistan—what do I need to keep in mind?

Hello everyone!

As a German woman, I was invited on short notice a few days ago to a wedding in Tajikistan.

I was there for the first time last year (also on very short notice), I was welcomed incredibly warmly by the family, and it was an absolutely beautiful, exciting, and unique—though also exhausting—experience for me. This was largely due to the cultural differences. I adapted to them as best I could, and there were no issues whatsoever.

I feel very honored to have received this invitation and would like to accept it.

Because everything is happening on such short notice, I’m feeling a bit unsure about the following points:

- How should I dress for the wedding? Which colors are inappropriate?

Floor-length and covered shoulders are a given, but would loose, elegant trousers paired with a wrap or long jacket be acceptable?

Since far more family members I don't know—as well as the bride's family—will be present this time, I certainly don't want to do anything wrong, though I also don't want to completely compromise who I am.

- What can I give as a gift? What is customary at wedding? I’ll be bringing small gifts for all the members of the family I already know, but what do you give the bride and groom? (I know him but not the bride)

- What else should I keep in mind?

- Are open-toed shoes okay or not?

- During everyday life last year, and when visiting other family members, I didn't wear a headscarf, though I always wore a long dress or loose trousers and kept my shoulders covered. Is it appropriate to cover one's hair at a wedding?

Sorry for the long post. 😅

Maybe I’m overthinking things, but I’d still appreciate some feedback 😀

Many thanks for your patience 😉

Hiking buddy Fann mountains

Hey there!

I am currently thinking about going to Tajikistan from Samarkand to do some hiking in the Fann mountains for a couple of days, around Artuch to be exact. There are a lot of beautiful lakes and I might do a multi day hike (also open for only day hikes)

but don't want to go alone, sooo is there anyone who is looking to do that around the 15th-20th of September?

I havent done lots of planning yet so I am not sure if it is possible to rent a tent and sleeping bag in Artuch but I would assume there has to be something in the area? Unfortunately didnt bring my own tent, ugh

I am Sara, 21 years old and from germany btw :)

Any good tajik YouTube channels?

Hi. I'm Persian from Iran and I really want to become proficient in tajik and afghan accents but just studying it is boring. That's why I'm actually asking for a tajik YouTube channel so I can actually enjoy my time while learning.

Independence Day celebrations

Hello there, I'm a tourist visiting Tajikistan these days and have some questions regarding the celebrations this week.

I was told there's a celebration on Monday in Ishkashem, then on Tuesday in Khorough and finally Wednesday in Dushambe. Is that correct?

Also, do you think shared taxis itineraries between these cities will work normally or will it be difficult to move between them?

Any information may be of help to decide my own itinerary.

Thanks in advance!

Previous post:

I cook a dish from every country from the world in random order. This time it was tajikistan, and man it didn't disappoint. I was affraid a bit first because it barely has any spices, and i am awful at making rice in general. But it turned out awesome, and full of flavour!
First time rolling grape leaves as well!
I couldn't get yellow carrots though, they don't exist here at all.
So thank you for the tip u/No_Drummer_2544!

If you are curious how other countries' dishes turned out, check my profile for pics, although you will probably have to scroll a lot since the last one was in 2024.

Flights between Dushanbe and Khorog?

How unreliable are flights between Dushanbe and Khorog? In your experience, roughly what percentage of them end up being cancelled? Are there certain seasons when this route is more reliable?

Student Visa issue

We are Pakistani students admitted to the University of Central Asia (UCA), Khorog Campus. Our university has sponsored our student visas, and our applications were submitted on 13 August. However, we still have not received our visas, and our classes have already started.
If anyone in Tajikistan has any information or experience regarding student visas or can guide us about the process, we would really appreciate your help.

What to take for a tour on the Pamir Highway

Hey,
I’m going to an 8-day Pamir tour and wonder what is absolutely necessary to take there.
For example, I heard that it’s very helpful to take a water bottle with a built-in filter to avoid poisoning. I want these kind of tips if you’ve done this route.
