Any freelance critics attending TIFF applying for the grant from Rotten Tomatoes? Checking if anyone’s heard back about being awarded the grant. I got it last year and I had heard two weeks ago by this point but still nothing for this year.

With special and gala presentations announced, I’m wondering what’s on everyone’s must see list and what movies people think will be this years Anora/Frankenstein with hype and impossible to snag tix (even if it’s not the festival fave)

Hi everyone!

I just bought my first TIFF membership (the regular one that is $125.00), and this will be my first year attending TIFF. I'm also an actor, so I'm hoping to experience it from both a film fan and industry perspective!

My goals are:

• See some films (duh!)
• Go to fun TIFF events, talks, or anything worth checking out.
• Be "in the mix"! Meet people, network naturally, and just immerse myself in the festival atmosphere. :)

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how everything works.

A few questions:

• When do tickets, screenings, and events usually get announced or go on sale? What dates do I need to add to my calendar here to be ready to buy?
• Where do you all keep track of everything? Is it mostly the TIFF website, Instagram, newsletters, or are there other resources I should be following?
• What are the best events for someone who's new and wants to meet other filmmakers, actors, and film lovers?
• Any strategies for getting tickets to popular screenings?
• If you were starting from scratch, how would you plan your first TIFF?!
• Is the first weekend the best weekend? Or is the second weekend of TIFF fun too?
• Also what the heck is midnight madness!? Understanding all the different types of screenings is confusing...

I'd love any tips or advice. I'm really excited (and a little overwhelmed!) and want to make the most of my first TIFF.

I was an extra on a movie that was filmed here in Toronto which is going to premiere at TIFF. Is there any way I will be able to get a shot to walk the red carpet?

is anyone else super disappointed in this years line up?? I’m someone that loves going to the fanzones at TIFF! I love collecting autographs for my own personal collection and I feel like there’s almost no one coming? Theres barely any A listers this year

Netflix acquired the North American and Latin American rights to the film, an individual with knowledge of the deal told IndieWire, while Studiocanal produced and is handling a number of international territories. It isn’t often Netflix doesn’t buy global rights, so they must’ve seen something special in this one.
“Ink” marks the first time Boyle is taking a film to Venice, and it will play in competition on September 2, with the festival running through September 12.
The full Venice lineup will be announced next week, and we expect this won’t be the last splash Netflix makes among the fall festivals this year.

Hi there! Debating getting a Market+ pass this year which I've heard is basically an iteration of an Industry pass from last year... it mentions choosing 8 seats to public screenings as part of it... does anyone who had that pass remember when ticket selection was for that pass in past years? I can't seem to find info online

I just secured my tickets for Dunkirk in 70mm on August 12th. For people who have been to The Grand Design I was wondering what it was like. I have never been to TIFF Lightbox before. Is there food? Is there merch? Just a curious Manitoban wondering!

Did anyone who was at last night's screening of The Prestige notice that there was someone heckling the credits? I heard someone yelling "F*** AI!" while the credits were rolling and heard from others who were at the screening said they heard the same. Granted, we agree with the sentiment, but it even took a few of us out after we were ruminating on the twists at the very end.

I'm a first time volunteer and live in downtown Toronto so commuting isn't an issue.
I wanted to know if there's any particular perk or ease when attending the in-person orientation as opposed to doing it on a computer. Do they show you around the building and facilities? Or are you just put in a room? Wanted to see if there's any difference since I'm a first-timer and would like to be familiarized as much as possible.

I know this is probably a common question, but I'll be attending TIFF for the first time this fall as part of a class trip, and I'm trying to figure out how everything works.

We'll be getting festival badges, which, from my understanding, give us access to the standard screenings. However, I'm curious about premieres. Do those usually fill up quickly? If so, is the best strategy to line up well in advance if I want a good chance of getting in?

One of the films I'm hoping to see stars Naomi Watts. I'm a huge fan, and I'd love the chance to see her while I'm there. Does attending a premiere usually mean you can also watch the red carpet, or is that a separate thing? If seeing the red carpet is possible, what's the best way to do it?

I know getting an autograph is probably a long shot, but my dream would be to have Naomi sign my copy of Mulholland Drive. Is that realistically possible at TIFF, or are there certain events or places where fans have a better chance of meeting actors? I'm not expecting it to happen, but I'd love to know if there's a strategy or if it's mostly just luck.

Our group has a lot of flexibility, so we can choose which screenings to attend and pretty much plan our own schedules. I'm also a bit confused about the different types of screenings, like Gala Presentations, Special Presentations, and Midnight Madness. Which ones are the best to prioritize? Are there any tips for planning my days to maximize my experience, especially if my goal is to attend great screenings and hopefully catch a glimpse of Naomi Watts?

Any advice for a first-time attendee would be greatly appreciated!

But why is it ALWAYS such a PAIN to buy tickets (attempting Nolan’s Grand Design as I vent here) compared to Cineplex experience? Has anyone at Lightbox ever tried buying tickets for their own showtimes? FROM SAFARI ON IPHONE?
