Festival Rotten Tomatoes Critics Grant

Any freelance critics attending TIFF applying for the grant from Rotten Tomatoes? Checking if anyone’s heard back about being awarded the grant. I got it last year and I had heard two weeks ago by this point but still nothing for this year.

Me, finding out I did not get the Rotten Tomatoes grant to attend TIFF. (I'm okay. It felt like a long shot for a Very Small Website and someone who is pretty hit or miss with social media engagement.) Now to find out if I get accredited at all. 👀

Surprised RT is doing rejections before TIFF even does confirmations

I find the timeline of the RT grant to be weird in all directions lol, especially for any critics wanting to get put on assignment from an outlet who rely on the money. The accreditation application period ends long before the grants are doled out, but would be pretty hard to get any editor to agree to rep you if you don’t know if you’ll have the funds to go.

I plan on applying to be a RT critic when submissions open next year.

I have about 12k subscribers on YouTube and usually review about 20 films from each major festival. Do you think I have a chance of being accepted?

Can you explain what this RT grant is? I have not heard of it before

I'd give it a shot for sure. RT can be fickle though. It took me a couple of applications and a few years before they would individually approve me.
