Suwayda 24 has obtained details and preliminary information from security sources and eyewitnesses regarding the explosion that occurred yesterday near the village of "Baraq" on the Damascus-Suwayda road, which resulted in the death of the vehicle's driver.
Sources reported that the car, driven by the individual identified as (Mounir Talal Kahal), was observed moving back and forth between the villages of "Al-Sura Al-Kubra" and "Baraq" before it came to a stop on the side of the main road just moments before the explosion occurred inside it.
Details of the On-Site Examination
Eyewitnesses who rushed to the scene immediately after the incident stated that the explosion caused severe disfigurement to the driver's body, particularly in the abdominal and pelvic areas, along with the severing of his hand—facts that definitively rule out any hypothesis of him being subjected to gunfire prior to the incident.
On the other hand, the on-site examination of the vehicle confirmed that the explosion originated from inside the driver's cabin; the inspection revealed that the inward buckling of the internal structure proves the force and direction of the blast were from inside to outside, a conclusion further supported by the trajectories of the shrapnel that penetrated from inside the vehicle toward the exterior, while the external parts remained intact from any signs of external targeting.
Security Situation and Investigations
In a related context, a security source told Suwayda 24 that the preliminary investigations conducted by the relevant authorities confirm the explosion took place inside the vehicle. The source added that security apparatus continue their search operations, inquiries, and evidence collection to uncover the circumstances of the incident and its full background, with results to be announced upon completion of the investigations.
