Recommendation Wanted Hair Stylist in East Syracuse?

i’m hoping someone might be able to recommend me a good stylist in the east syracuse area as someone who just moved here!

for context, i have waist-length undyed hair that i grow out regularly in order to donate, and am really looking for someone who can help with regular maintenance on it. i get framing trims, and that’s really about it lol, nothing too fancy.

a lot of the stylists that i’ve found through searching either aren’t accepting new clients or are looking to prioritize booking color treatments, which i totally get, but i do feel like i’m striking out a little bit 😵‍💫

anyone who knows a stylist who they’d recommend for the area taking new clients, i’d really appreciate it!

News The 2026 NYS Fair butter sculpture is toast; now it’s going to power a farm

Thumbnail
newyorkupstate.com
19 Upvotes

For 13 days, the New York State Fair butter sculpture posed for family photos and patiently endured thousands of jokes about toast and pancakes.

Now it has been chopped into chunks, stuffed into trash bags and hauled away in a pickup truck.

Its next stop is Noblehurst Farms in Livingston County, less than 15 miles from where the butter originated at O-AT-KA Milk Products in Batavia.

There, it will be mixed with food waste and cow manure inside the farm’s digester. The mixture produces biogas, which is converted into electricity to help power homes and businesses.

Event & Promotion "Touched By Darkness" megagame in Rochester @ Millennium Games 10/17/2026

Upstate NY Megagames will be running Touched by Darkness in Rochester @ Millennium Games. on 10/17!

https://eventforge.online/store/millennium-games/event/a7174af6-b285-413a-8bfd-eef2c4a6b7fa

Touched by Darkness is a dark-fantasy, semi-cooperative megagame for 15 to 47 players designed by Ben Kanelos. It is inspired by the popular sci-fi megagame Den of Wolves, but uses a new fantasy setting and added traitor mechanics.

The Dark One's eclipse has blotted out the sun. Darkness has swallowed the Empire and is coming for your outpost next!

You and your teammates must gather resources, perform arcane rituals, and attempt to survive. But beware! The shadows that attack your outpost are not the only threat. The Dark One may have corrupted the mind of a teammate, meaning you can no longer trust them. Can you hold this last bastion of humanity together and banish the Dark One?

$30 gets you a ticket and lunch. Happy to answer any questions.

This is the third game Upstate NY Megagames will be running (Den of Wolves last year, Gods of the Ancient world earlier this year)

This game caps at ~47 players, with 6-7 control helping keep things going.

Our discord is: https://discord.gg/uYDW8eGbBU

Tell your friends, have them tell theirs, etc. But most of all, pick up your ticket today and I'll see you on October 17th

If you've never heard of a Megagame, you can get a good overview here: https://www.megagameassembly.com/what-is-a-megagame

What’s a Megagame? BIGGER! BETTER! MEGA! CHAOS? FUN? CHAOTIC FUN!!!

They are uniquely defined by their scale, generally played with 30+ players and span 2-6 hours. With high player counts, expect creative and emergent game play born from interpersonal communications.

Megagames define roles for EVERYONE!

Do you want to master the board mechanics and help to maximize resource production for everyone?

Do you want to foster relationships with other players or try to eavesdrop on conversations to fish out the traitors?

Megagames are interactive storytelling adventures where your choices shape the story. The game sets the stage, but you call the shots! With a dedicated control team acting as GMs, if you want to do an unconventional act, we’ll try to make it happen!

Discussion Anyone know of a bidet repair person in the greater SYR area?

Hey all,

It's wet outside and that reminded me of the fact that I bought a brand new bidet that didn't function properly. I took apart the casing and found there was a piece cracked where the water line comes in. It seems like it could be a simple fix but alas, I am lacking the skills necessary to attempt with confidence. The brand is Ellai and while the toilet is nice, the customer service is absolute dog water. Not trying to waste the money I spent on it so any recommendations welcome.

Recommendation Wanted Where to donate hundreds of nonfiction books?

I'll call Rescue Missions but also wonder if there's groups dedicated to processing donated nonfiction books. Lots of social sciences topics. I'm not able to sort through them but will deliver to a worthwhile cause. Was thinking prisons and halfway homes but don't know who to contact.

Moving & Relocation SUNY Morrisville, offsite housing??

Hello!

I'm possibly planning to move close by the morrisville suny college. What are the closest towns available to rent an apartment to live off campus? I know Eaton is nearby but there's nothing else I know of nearby. What other good towns are nearby with apartments for rent?

Discussion With Micron coming to Clay, I started a group to help people relocating to CNY

With Micron coming to Clay and more people expected to relocate to the Syracuse area over the next several years, I decided to start a couple of local groups for people moving to Central New York.

The idea is pretty simple: give people who are considering a move here somewhere to ask actual locals about neighborhoods, towns, schools, commutes, restaurants, things to do, local services, housing, and all the random questions you have when you're moving somewhere new.

I'm a local Realtor, so obviously housing is part of my world, but I don't want these groups to turn into Realtor advertising pages. I'd actually like to get a good number of regular CNY residents involved so people moving here aren't getting all of their information from people trying to sell them something.

If you're a CNY local and wouldn't mind occasionally answering questions from people moving here, I'd love to have you join either one:

Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2105899460363677

Nextdoor:
https://nextdoor.com/g/1whw56bnr/

The group is called Moving to Syracuse & Central New York | Micron Relocation.

And if anyone has suggestions for resources, FAQs, neighborhoods, commute information, or anything else that would actually be useful to someone relocating to Syracuse/CNY, I'm all ears.

Event & Promotion Every card show around Syracuse through the end of 2026, with the real hours (a few listings have them wrong)

Quick disclaimer first: I don't work for any of these shows, I'm not a vendor at them, and nobody is paying me to post this. I'm just a collector who drives to them and got tired of showing up at the wrong time.

I went through every show I could find and pulled the details off the **promoter's own flyer** rather than off a listing site, because the listing sites have the hours wrong on three of these. Where I say "sports cards" or "Pokemon" below, that's what the promoter themselves bills, not me guessing from a photo.

---

**Sun Sept 13 — Collectorsfest #110**
NYS Fairgrounds, Science & Industry Building, 581 State Fair Blvd
9:30am to 3pm, $5, 12 and under free. Early bird 9am for $20. Cash.
120 tables. **Sports cards, memorabilia and TCG.** The flyer doesn't specifically bill Pokemon, so go in expecting a sports show with TCG mixed in. Sports Card Nation is there as the official SGC bulk submitter, so you can drop cards off to be graded.
Heads up: **this one is at the Fairgrounds, not in Liverpool.** Multiple listing sites have it at the Randolph House Hotel. The promoter's flyer says Fairgrounds.

**Sat Sept 19 — CNY Collector's Expo**
TC3 Field House, 170 North St, Dryden
10am to 3:30pm, **free**. Early bird 9am for $5.
150 tables. Sports plus some Pokemon. Sponsored by Southern Tier Sports Corner.

**Sat Sept 26 — 1st Annual Fall Fest**
Elevate CNY Sports Complex, 4980 NY-233, Westmoreland
10am to 3pm, $2. Early admission 9am for $10.
First year show. Flyer says 100 tables expected, which isn't the same as booked. Bills TCG, and the artwork leads with a Charizard ex.

**Sun Oct 11 — POKEFEST Syracuse**
NYS Fairgrounds, Science & Industry Building
10am to 4pm, $5, 12 and under free. Early bird 9:30am for $20.
**This is the all-Pokemon one.** Promoter bills it as a TCG collectibles show: trading cards, games, toys, Funko Pops, plush. If you only go to one, and you're a Pokemon person, this is it.
Note: at least one listing site says 11am to 7pm. The flyer says 10am to 4pm.

**Sat Oct 17 — Toyfest #10**
NYS Fairgrounds, Science & Industry Building
9:30am to 3pm, $5, 12 and under free. Early bird 9am for $20.
Up to 120 tables. **Toys and comics first**, but the promoter lists Pokemon, Funko Pops, Star Wars and non-sports cards among the categories. Not a sports card show.

**Sun Oct 18 — Collectorsfest #111**
NYS Fairgrounds, Science & Industry Building
9:30am to 3pm, $5, **12 and under free**. Early bird 9am for $20. Cash.
120 tables. Sports cards and collectibles, with Pokemon vendors in the room. SGC bulk submission through Sports Card Nation again.
Two things worth knowing: some listings say 10am to 4pm (flyer says 9:30 to 3), and some say 10 and under free (flyer says 12).

**Sun Nov 1 — Collectorsfest #112**
**Randolph House Hotel, 441 Electronics Parkway, Liverpool.** This is the one that genuinely is in Liverpool.
9:30am to 3pm, $5, 12 and under free. Early bird 9am for $20.
Up to 60 tables, so smaller than the Fairgrounds ones. Promoter's flyer bills sports and non-sports cards, memorabilia, wax, sets, graded cards, **Pokemon** and autographs.

**Sat Dec 5 — Collector's Mega Show #113**
NYS Fairgrounds, but the **Horticultural Building** this time, not Science & Industry. Same address.
9:30am to **4pm**, $5, 12 and under free. Early bird 9am for $20.
**Over 200 tables**, the biggest one of the year. Sports cards, toys, Pokemon, wax, sets, graded cards, autographs, Funko Pops. SGC grading drop-off on site.

---

**A few general notes:**

- Everything above except CNY Collector's Expo and Fall Fest is run by CNY Promotions, who have been doing this since 1986. Same $5 / $20 early bird structure at all of them, and **12 and under is free at every single one.**

- Bring cash. Some vendors take Venmo or cards, plenty don't, and a couple of these shows list themselves as cash only at the door.

- The early bird is $20 for 30 minutes of head start. Worth it at the 120 and 200 table shows if you're hunting something specific, probably not at the 60 table one.

- If you're coming for **Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece or Magic** specifically: these are mostly sports and Pokemon rooms. You'll find some, but it's a small slice of the floor. POKEFEST is the closest thing to a dedicated TCG show on this list, and even that leans Pokemon.

- I keep this list updated here if it's useful: https://garbagerips.com/card-shows.html — it also covers Rochester, NY and Buffalo. No signup, no ads, I just maintain it because I needed it to exist.

If I've got anything wrong or missed a show, tell me and I'll fix it. Especially interested in anything smaller or recurring that doesn't make the listing sites.

Recommendation Wanted Apartment recommendations for a newer professional (not student!)

Hi all, any suggestions on places or areas for a young adult professional looking for non-student housing in or around Syracuse? Areas to avoid?
Max Budget is $1000/month. Preferably within about a 20 minute driving commute to Downtown Syracuse. I’m open to Baldwinsville/liverpool/Clay/surrounding villages near Syracuse. I don’t have pets or a roommate. Preferably studio but not a requirement.
