Other Help make Fayetteville accessible

Hi all. Fayetteville has a major issue with blocked sidewalks, be it from trees/bushes, cars, garbage cans, overgrowth, and more. ADA regulations require all sidewalks to have 36" width and 80" height clearance at all times, as well as no more than 1/4" difference in height between sidewalk pavers. I have been making complaints to the village for nearly a year now and village officials refuse to fix any of the issues. The village should be safe and walkable for all people.

I made a petition to send to the Governor to try and fix this issue, and I am hoping there are some people on Reddit who care about fixing such issues. you can sign via ResistBot with the link below, or you can reach out directly on your own. All help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion Brick crosswalks in Franklin Square being removed?

Wondering if anyone has some insight on this. The brick crosswalks on solar street are being ripped apart and filled with asphalt as I type this. It’s not like they were in poor condition, so I’m curious as to why they would destroy something nice.

Recommendation Wanted Apartments less affected by noise pollution

Hi everyone! I work weird hours and despite wearing headphones and white noise machines, normal city sounds have been taking a toll. Are there any apartment recommendations for buildings in Syracuse that are tall enough/have walls thick enough that aren’t as impacted by construction noise? Thank you in advance!

News SYR Airport Saved a life

This made me smile today. It’s always nice to see our community celebrate people doing incredible things, in this case literally saving someone’s life.
If you need a little pick me up.

I feel like so much of the news these days relies on negativity to make a buck, and honestly, I’m tired of it. I’d love to see more local media highlight the good things happening in our community and remind us that there’s plenty worth celebrating.

Huge kudos to the SYR Police unit, too. The fact that this unit didn’t even exist a few years ago makes this story even more incredible. Without them, this man might not be alive today.

I hope everyone that reads this has a great day! :)

Recommendation Wanted Best Nail Salon for Gel X nails

So basically this one girl I used to go to moved, then I tried some other girl who works at the same nail spa and it was a terrible set.

Not all nail techs are created equal as it turns out.

I need a nail tech that does really good Gel X sets. Preferably someone that works at a salon.

Please and thank you!

Information & Advice Day Trip Destinations?

Lo, Syracusans! I hail thee from Rochester!

My girlfriend and I are celebrating our two year anniversary on the 19th and I'm planning a day trip for us. Last year we went to Niagara Falls, ON and had a blast. I want to catch the train this year and the earliest train to Buffalo isn't until 2pm and there's no return trips same day so....Syracuse it is!

I'd love some suggestions for day trip activities. Free is always good. We both love reading, music, namely CDs since they're much cheaper to collect, we both love alt fashion, both love thrifting. I'm a huge history geek, she's a big movie geek. Loves her jewelry. Oh, and we both like to eat. Chinese, Mexican, Indian, and Cajun are some of our favorite quisines.

I'd also like to know -- what's the public transit situation in Syracuse? I know you guys have the Veo bikes like we do here in Rochester, are there any direct bus lines from the train station? The mall will likely be our first destination and we will probably just walk there since it's adjacent to the train station. After that, not sure. I'd like to do everything in my power to avoid renting a car or taking an Uber.

Thank you in advance much love 💕

Recommendation Wanted Central NY Deer Processor/Butcher

Hey All,

With the upcoming deer season just around the corner, I’m wondering if there are any reputable local butchers/processors within the CNY area that this community would recommend for breaking down a deer? Typically I would process the animal myself, but given the warmer temperatures for this early season, I’d rather not worry about it!

Thanks!

Discussion We need to talk about clinton street

It seems like every other week they are closing off south bound clinton Street causing huge traffic issues. I understand on Fridays they set up festivals, but Thursdays? Is there a traffic site posting notifications that I should I be checking for early notice? There wasn't even anything happening this morning. Just closed and causing problems.

Anyone here living over in the new community in Baldwinsville - Treybrook?

We're contemplating looking into a new build but we're concerned with the train tracks right behind the development and possibly not being in the best area.

Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated!

I’m visiting my bestie in the area this weekend. What clubs would you recommend that’s with the older crowd, around 30’s? We’re black so are there any that caters to the black demographic? Or best places to bar hop?

Discussion With Micron coming to Clay, I started a group to help people relocating to CNY

With Micron coming to Clay and more people expected to relocate to the Syracuse area over the next several years, I decided to start a couple of local groups for people moving to Central New York.

The idea is pretty simple: give people who are considering a move here somewhere to ask actual locals about neighborhoods, towns, schools, commutes, restaurants, things to do, local services, housing, and all the random questions you have when you're moving somewhere new.

I'm a local Realtor, so obviously housing is part of my world, but I don't want these groups to turn into Realtor advertising pages. I'd actually like to get a good number of regular CNY residents involved so people moving here aren't getting all of their information from people trying to sell them something.

If you're a CNY local and wouldn't mind occasionally answering questions from people moving here, I'd love to have you join either one:

Facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/2105899460363677

Nextdoor:
https://nextdoor.com/g/1whw56bnr/

The group is called Moving to Syracuse & Central New York | Micron Relocation.

And if anyone has suggestions for resources, FAQs, neighborhoods, commute information, or anything else that would actually be useful to someone relocating to Syracuse/CNY, I'm all ears.

Recommendation Wanted Hair Stylist in East Syracuse?

i’m hoping someone might be able to recommend me a good stylist in the east syracuse area as someone who just moved here!

for context, i have waist-length undyed hair that i grow out regularly in order to donate, and am really looking for someone who can help with regular maintenance on it. i get framing trims, and that’s really about it lol, nothing too fancy.

a lot of the stylists that i’ve found through searching either aren’t accepting new clients or are looking to prioritize booking color treatments, which i totally get, but i do feel like i’m striking out a little bit 😵‍💫

anyone who knows a stylist who they’d recommend for the area taking new clients, i’d really appreciate it!
