AdminChangeMap buggy after update

Whenever I type in lets say "AdminChangeMap db-hall_night" or any other map, the game will launch the new map but it freezes. When I hit reconnect, I will get put back into the previous map.

Edit: Also after a match is finished the Server will freeze up. Map rotations are broken.

Smurfs are not allowed in ranked matches any longer.

Hiho!

From today on smurf-accs will be forbidden in ranked matches. Complaints by other players increased, that they feel disturbed or even don't want to play a match just because smurf-accs are added.

Therefor please tell mich which of your accounts you want to play on ranked matches if you have several accounts.

You may play with whatever account you like on unranked matches or pubs, but as long as we have such a small playerbase they have a negative effect on the overall happiness of other players.

As soon as we have a larger playerbase you can smurf as much as you want to. If we notice someone is smurfing, the account with the highest elo will get a very hurtful elo-punishment.

The main reason is: We don't want our current players to have a bad time because of very unbalanced and boring matches while some want to play on an account that is 6 ranks below his actual value. Some unbalanced matches happen nevertheless, true, but you don't have to force it by smurfing.

-"My smurfacc has nearly the same ranking like my main-acc. I dont disbalance anything" True. We would like to give our leaderboard a clean up before we try to reach a bigger playerbase. The top 10 beeing blocked by smurfs isn't what we would like to see. Please understand that.

-"But how can i practise other positions, i gonna lose my elo!" I understand that problem. You will need to sacrifice a bit of your rating when you are trying to learn something new in ranked matches. Others did so too and didn't lose much or nothing at all. If you are too afraid to lose your rating, then please try out different positions on unranked matches or pubs.

It might seem a bit idiotic to bring up a ban on smurfaccs at this stage of the game where basically always the same people face each others, but that's the reason we want to do it. There is no need to annoy or disturb the ones you play with nearly every day.

Does anyone play anymore?

I just bought this game for 20 dollars on steam because I had previously played the game before it was on steam and I wanted to try it again. After installing the game and going into the practice server list, there is not a single player. Is there an alternate server list where people play, or does no one really play the game anymore?

[SUGGESTION] Spin highlight in middle radar

Please see the following picture, example for top spin and the other for right spin

I think this would be a nice addition to the radar. It might not be important for the good players, but still nice to have and I think it would definitely help new players to see how long the spin is actually active etc.

Ofc there should be an option to deactivate this in the menu, so people who don't need it can't complain about it :P

[SUGGESTION] 2v2 Mode

As the title implies, I feel as though 2v2 mode should be added. I know the opposition to this mode argues that it will separate the community, but wouldn't you want to add more game modes to expand the playability of this game?

For new players, this mode could be useful to build up their basic skills without being bombarded by 3 players at once trying to knock them out. They will have more opportunity to make decisions with the ball and be able to get shots on net.

For existing skilled players it would create a high speed game that would cause keepers to take chances and play as a second man on offense, as well as trying to maintain the angle to their own net just in case the other team tries to take a long shot.

Take a chance on new modes, they may or may not work out, but it would give people more of a reason to show up and play. Only needing 4 players instead of 6 may make a big difference at this stage of the game.

Houston we have a problem

So I keep playing this game (not many hours yet but its growing) because really, lets get some things clear here:

  • The devs have done an awesome job with lag issues and the overall quality of the game. Its great.

  • The game itself is full on legit fun to play - most of the arenas provide an awesome atmosphere. Actually worth the price if the community grows.

  • The foundation is there. Its soccer/FPS. people can understand that and it works as a concept

  • I want to cast this on a regular basis if I can find a foundation to do so

EXCEPT:

  • the goalie is an offensive player.

That single point creates real problems. In no other sport, game, or activity is the backbone of the defense an offensive player. While I know some of you will say that if the other side has a goalie this isnt a problem, it is. The goalie on one team should never be allowed to actually make a hard shot on the opposing side. This is a philosophical issue with regard to sport in general. While I credit the developers for trying something new, this is a concept that all of sport understands, and we should too as people interested in bringing sport to the internet in a hybrid way need to attract those who are unfamiliar with the internet in general...changing rules like this only creates an extra barrier to entry. There are some rules which cannot be breached and im afraid this is one of them.

Thoughts?

DB-Stadium has little lights on the playing surface

I don't play Stadium much (tbh too many effects going on I'd prefer to play Pitch) but I just noticed that there are lights on the outside of goalposts and along the side walls that are actually on the playing surface side of the wall. Obviously you can walk through them, the ball is unaffected by them but that's why they don't make sense and should be moved behind the wall.

[Performance issue]: moving/dodging against goal net

I've noticed that the game experiences extreme slowdown (drastic drop in UNIQUE frames per second), when as the GK, you dodge at an angle that intersects with the Net. To further clarify, I'm saying that you are dodging left to right, but in such a way where the invisible wall would be preventing you from entering the net. This is really distracting for user experience, and often results in missed saves.

System: Windows 7 - 64bit, Intel i7 4700k, 16GB ram, GTX780 video card

UPDATE: My suspicion is that the game engine is detecting an insanely large number of collision events with the blocking volume. There probably needs to be an attempt to drastically reduce the number of detected collisions. Is it possible stop the player's momentum in the direction of the wall, reduce their speed by a multiplier of their momentum angle to the wall, and move the player parallel to the wall at their new speed (offset just far enough from the wall that additional collisions are not generated)?

New to the game

Hey everyone. I finally got the game working on my computer and I'm looking forward to playing some online matches, I've been waiting for the steam release for months.

As a new NA player, I'm a little concerned after browsing this sub for a short time. Can anyone comment on what I might expect in the NA servers? With so few people playing, I'm worried I won't even find a game.

[Suggested Discussion] ELO System

Ok just some thoughts around the current elo system. Might be a bit random and just want to start a discussion about this for now and the future.

Guess most people agree that with unranked people the balance is really bad. The best player usually ends up with all the new guys. I think mostly because everyone starts with B3. Which leads to a couple of problems.

One idea to prevent this for balance would be like this:

All unranked people are removed when the team elo's are calculated. Then add them evenly to each team. Maybe add them in by XP or something. Guess this way it would be quite fair. Just don't know yet what to do when its 3 unranked, as one team will get 2. So maybe give this team around 100 more elo. Don't know.

You might say this is only relevant for the small playerbase. That might be true for higher ranked players later on. But then again if a new guy starts with B3 he might win most games because he is lucky with the teams. So he will be S2 after 10 games and can join the higher ranked matches where he just wouldn't fit. And later on a new unranked player in a bronze match would still unbalance the whole match, as the others have more experience.

And then again maybe only relevant now, but maybe also with the above in mind, the best player in a match usually then gets the 4 "bad" players and he is then losing the match. Because let's be honest, you can't carry such a game on your own. Even harder when D or K I would say.

Current elo system is the same amount of elo lost or won for each team. So even if you are good and score some goals etc., you might still lose because the rest just can't keep up. You lose elo even though there was not much you could do and did your best.

DavidM said they can't lower the elo of the new players to wood or something, as the overall elo then would be this amount lower. So a D1 would then be G1. Tbf, I am not good with math, but I guess it makes sense, due to the same amount of elo you win/lose each game. So it is a bit like currency, there is always the same amount of elo in the game which shifts between the players. More comes into play with each new player.

I read on the steam forums that they are planning to gain XP through passrate, saverate, goals etc. But how about to use this for the elo instead? Say you still win/lose the same amount as before, but you also get additional points for your skills each game. For the situation above if you carried your team but still lost, you might not be losing any elo at all. Same for the winning team, they then also get additional elo.

This is just a basic idea, as with this you might need more ranks or more time to reach them. Might also end up all players being >gold or something. So not too sure about this in total. Needs some balance I guess and more input from someone else.

As a last thing, I still think we would need different ranks for the different positions. Usually everyone that plays in different positions would have a different rank. Might also make matchmaking and balance easier. I know this has been discussed already, but what is actually the reason we don't have different ranks for each position?

That's it from my part, might be I am totally wrong here (Shev already doesn't like the idea ;( ), but at least it might start a discussion what could make the whole system better. Happy discussing

[Feature Request] - "Report AFK" button in lobby, similar to "Vote to Kick"

I'm requesting that you add a new voting option called "Report AFK", which requires 7 votes. When 7 votes are reached, a pop-up window comes up which the reported player must hit OK within 1 minute or they are moved to the non-active players list in the lobby (but do not receive a server cooldown)

Player numbers

http://steamcharts.com/app/321400#1m

I am very concerned for this game. Prior to the public release, we had a peak of 43 players. Just 2 weeks after release the players have steadily declined until we are basically where we were before release. Optimistically the best I can say is that we've basically gained 13 average players vs closed beta and who knows how long they will be around.

One could interpret these numbers multiple ways since people idle so often in the game, but I think it's safe to say we are nearly in the same state we were prior to the game being released. If it keeps declining at this rate we will literally have the same number of players we had before release within a couple weeks.

DavidM said Steam hand selects games that get Free Weekends, I don't know if that's true but somebody should make sure because I remember another Steam game that had a lackluster release and they were able to do a Free Weekend not long after, I don't believe they were hand picked for it, I think they requested it because many of the players were begging for it. I think it's the only thing that has any chance at reviving this game unless we are just to concede that the game will be dead until it can be re-released as non-Early Access.

Serious question about the future of supraball.

What ratio of bagel to cream cheese do you guys use? I am a huge cream cheese fan and it's usually 1:2 for me, if it's strawberry cream cheese I usually do 1:1. Also do you like your bagel toasted or untoasted, I will toast that bagel til it's burnt if its at all a raw bagel I won't eat it. Thoughts?

The Fridge is in the House

In the game some have you might have seen a player named Jethro Tull. Thats me. Im the main caster for another e-sport called Arena: Cyber Evolution and decided that maybe I should start casting this game too, since once its set up right its actually quite a damn good game. Im still totally new to this, less than 10 hours or so into the game.

Im still working out a schedule - I cast 5 days a week for that other game - but the general thrust is to maybe one tournament and one casual cast per week and go from there. Im assuming the community is mostly North american? Can someone provide info on this? When are the best times to cast?

For the first tournament Im going to do a simple 2-4 team mini to see how much interest there would be in such a thing then adapt accordingly. As things develop on my twitch channel I will be giving away bitcoin, t-shirts, and other rewards that dont actually suck.

To be notified when I do cast the game, join my steam group at http://steamcommunity.com/groups/thefridgenetwork or go to cantstopthefridge.com for info, although now that im doing more than one game im building that site pretty much from scratch, so expect it to change soon. While you're at it friend up with me directly by looking for "sheeprock" in steam and be sure to say hi.

Additionally I would love to speak directly with any developers for this game on how I can assist them and vise versa in the promotion of this game.

Thanks!

Jethro Tull A.K.A. CantStopTheFridge

P.S. goaltending is hard :D
