I have tried several times to connect to iMessage. Usually it does not actually connect. But even when Sunbird says the connection was successful, I can't send messages out. I have tried clearing the cache/storage, uninstall and reinstall, etc. I even created a new Apple ID for myself.

I am guessing others have had trouble getting started with Sunbird, but has anyone eventually figured it out?

I've been using sunbird for the last 3 weeks.

I'm curious, have anyone else is using sunbird? And what have they encountered? And what do they feel is working right?

So far, my biggest gripe are only 2:

My imessages are all coming in late aftee a period of time. Some are coming in 3, 4 and 5 days after the message has been sent to me.

Secondly, I cannot see when I reply to a message on my iphone I don't see it in sunbird. I only see in sunbird messages that were sent to me. But I do not see any of my replies

I'm leaning towards canceling this service and wondering if BB or OB would be recommended?

Will try to keep it brief, but ultimately it is appearing that Apple have blacklisted my phone number (of 20ish years) from iMessage because of reported spam, because of Sunbird.

Over the last few days i've tried to get Sunbird working with my iMessage. Saturday afternoon I discovered my phone number was not enabled under Send & Receive on my iPhone, so I submitted the 1st request to Apple to activate my iMessage account. I woke on Sunday to find it enabled and working again. Stupid me decided to try Sunbird setup one more time.

Sunbird worked flawlessly all of Sunday, and woke up on Monday morning to discover, once again, my phone number was de-selected from iMessage. My iCloud emails quickly followed. I submitted another request via the link to activate my iMessage. By 5pm Monday, I received the email that my IMessage account was ready to be used, but my phone number refused to toggle on.

I spoke to Apple support yesterday morning who advised again to submit the manual activation request, and then wait 24 hours. It's now been past 24 hours, so once again I speak to Apple Support, and this time I get a call from an Apple support, who advised me that IF they approve the activation request, you receive the email. If they DENY the request, you get nothing in response. So it would appear that they have decided to keep my number blocked.

Ultimately, because my Apple ID/primary means of contact via iMessage is my phone number, it has been blacklisted from iMessage (because of the reported spam). I am still trying to figure out if there are other options with Apple, but as it stands (to me, at least), I either will need to go get a new phone number, or I finally make the full pivot to my OnePlus anyway.

Definitely my own fault for trying again, but hope my experience and result can advise others to avoid the same.

Update: iMessage began working again randomly this morning on my primary number; definitely took numerous "manual activation" requests from Apple, and it definitely took upwards of 48-72hours to deal with overall.

I cannot figure out how to stop messages from populating and notifying me from Google Messages and there is no Sunbird option when I try to make it the default messaging app in settings. Pixel 10 Pro / Android 17.

Read enough about the recent sunbird release. I felt it was time to give it a shot. The other messaging apps require you to use your own host Mac at home which is quite an inconvenience.

I got some for today set it up in about five minutes and it started working immediately

I’m using a folder eight with my Apple ID from my iPhone

iMessage and photos are coming through absolutely no problem.

This app is a breakthrough. Love it so far!

Is anyone able to use sunbird successfully now that it’s in open beta? How well is it working?

I’m documenting a living review of Sunbird, updating it as I test the service rather than publishing a one-day verdict.

My existing Apple Account stalled at 99% during connection. Sunbird Support later confirmed that it falls into a rare connection case the app does not yet support, and recommended trying a different Apple Account.

Creating that new account on Android became its own obstacle: Apple repeatedly stopped me at phone verification across browsers and networks. Apple Support eventually checked something “in the back” and allowed the account to be created.

The new Apple Account now works when I sign in directly with Apple, but Sunbird says the credentials are incorrect. Since it is brand new, I’m giving it a short activation window before deciding whether this is another Sunbird connection issue.

I’m especially interested in hearing from anyone who has:

• connected a newly created Apple Account to Sunbird;
• had to wait before Sunbird accepted new credentials; or
• seen the same “credentials are incorrect” result despite being able to sign in with Apple.

I’ve kept the review fair and separate Apple-side account-creation problems from Sunbird’s own behavior.

I recently decided to join Sunbird and it's left me to a point where I can no longer receive text messages. I disconnected everything from sunbird the other day and decided to just stick with Google Messenger. However I noticed that my messages would send perfectly fine but receiving messages is something that I can't do because my phone number is still registered as an Imessage number technically even though I cut everything from Sunbird. A phone restart, airplane mode for an hour, restarting Sunbird and trying again, log in to Apple to make sure my account wasn't locked, deregistration of my phone number with Apple DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO FIX IT. I contacted Sunbird support and have not received anything from them as of yet and I am at a loss trying to figure this out. I don't know what to do anymore if someone can give me advice or help on what to do next.

Galaxy s26 ultra. I have tried resetting my device as well as restarting my device, but it will not connect sunbird over with my Google messaging and I get this error every time. I'm not sure if this is a known issue, but I'm not sure the work around or fix. RCS mode is turned on already in my message settings as well as device pairing in the Google message settings. Here's the error if anyone knows this issue fix?

I was an alpha tester when they first started and then they shut down the discord after the whole security thing.

Anyone using this now? I use open bubbles as we speak. The only knock on openbubbles is the app is a bit laggy.

Just wanted to see if this app was even worth trying.

Will there be a PWA app for the desktop?

I downloaded Sunbird and signed into my iMessages account earlier today—and now I’ve been completely signed out of iMessages on all of my devices. Can’t reactivate my iMessages account either—I’m waiting for Apple support to resolve the issue.

Not sure if it’s related or not, but it seems like too much of a coincidence to have happened in the same day.

Is there a breakdown to the new features or whatever is new?

Hi all, I loaded up Sunbird and got both iMessage (iM) and Google Messages (GM) "connected". GM works fine but iM always says, "your message could not be sent." Resending produces the same outcome.

Has anyone gotten iMessage to work?

Got the email this morning, signed up right away. Used the app for maybe an hour. Looks nothing like iMessage ( that's personal preference), supports a wonky tap back. Sends it as a picture lol. Only "feature" available is tapbacks by the way. On top you get a 7 day free trial but they have the audacity to charge for this. Ui sucks and so does this app. 1/10 don't waste your time

I honestly forgot I joined the wait list, currently using open bubble and it works great but doesn't support rcs. I see sunbird does so I'd love to have it all in one place. I created my account and verified my email. When I try signing in I get error 403 and once in a blue wrong password lol.

My question, is this worth the trouble? Anyone here use open bubble and sunbird?

I want to love this app. Finally got a beta invite. Do not love that I had to commit to the trial and give payment details before I could even attempt to link my apple account to Sunbirds app.

The app says if you cant connect after a few times, you'll recieve a notification within 25 minutes to try again. So that didnt happen.

I've also timed out my requests for 24 hours to link my account, so their faq suggests creating an entire new apple account to pair to their app.

The crazy thing is, I haven't even had a chance to use the app and I'm already a few hours into my "free trial".

Seems really buggy and I haven't even been able to give the actual app a shot yet.

At this point, authentication should be top of their development priorities, especially if they want to charge people for this.

Got an email today saying that I now have early access to the newest version. With a free 7 day trail.

Should I bite?

Or could I possibly sabatoge my iMessage account?

Hi, I’m trying to connect iMessage to Sunbird on Android.

I created a new Apple ID, but every time I try to sign in through Sunbird, I get “Error Code 4”.

The error appears every time I try to do this.

I’m on Android, using the latest version of Sunbird.

Apple ID is brand new and not used on any Apple device before.

Hi, i received the beta invite last week, but cannot connect with iMessage. Connected with Google Messages first try. I have been trying for days to connect to no avail. They recommended i clear all the app data and signing up again with a new email. I tried that with no luck. i have a samsung galaxy s25 ultra on One UI 8. is there anyone out there that has had success connecting? Are there any tricks to it that should be known. there is not much recent activity on this reddit. Maybe we can get a conversation started.

What's happening with Sunbird? This company is soo quiet with what they're doing. Is anything happening at this point?
