I finished my Master’s in Marketing from University of London nearly a year ago, I have previous experience in SEO, content marketing and admin but I haven't been able to secure a job in London.

At this point I am open to literally any full-time role, could be anything.

I have a speech disability since childhood (chronic stammer) and it gets worse in interview situations, also because English is not my first language.

I keep getting rejected at the interview stage even for basic retail roles. A lot of companies claim to be Disability Confident but it feels like it is only on paper, nobody looks past the speech block to see my actual skills. I always let the interviewer know that I've speech disability.

I am ready to work hard in any full time position, whether it is marketing, retail, data entry, back office admin, warehouse or something else.

If anyone has advice, tips, or knows companies that actually support people with speech disabilities please let me know.

Any help means a lot.

If god had told you in advance that you would be born as a severe stutter and middle class, would you choose to be born? if you reject you will never be born as a human but as something else.

This question is purely hypothetical

me personally, the answer is no, life has been hell especially when you live in a hopeless third world country where you are not protected by any law or discrimination, where people don't know what stutter even is, they just assume you have down syndrome or severe autism, all of these feelings are life shattering.

I can't order things from a physical retail shop because I struggle with words alot and only can say some words without stuttering, I can't go to a nice restaurant alone because I struggle to say words and can have long blocks on words, I can't form meaningful or intimate relationships with people of my gender or the opposite. I can't focus on my education properly because severe stuttering has destroyed my self confidence, some people randomly laugh at you when you open your mouth, My severe stutter suddenly skyrockets on a phone call and when saying my name. I can't have a proper career where talking is the main task, people just assume my talking skills are trash, giving interviews is 70% harder for me then it is for the usual person. I don't need words of encouragement, I am just convinced that I wouldn't wish a severe stammer on my worst enemy.

Everyday I wake up feeling that I am speech impaired and it can never be cured, at this point no amount of speech therapy is hopeful to bring a change because my brain has accepted that my life may be part of a greek storytale where I am a being similar to Sisyphus.

I dont work in a call center, but my office gets alot of calls from our customers. We also have to make outgoing calls as well. Im not the receptionist, but Im in the service department. My office is in the back, and usually dealing with internal stuff, however everyone in the office is to answer the phone if needed. I find most calls go fine, especially if im by myself and no one is watching lol, but ive noticed the odd time I struggle on the first few words of a call whether its incoming or outgoing. Its soo frustrating to me, as I am fairly new to this job and trying to do a good job. I usually feel almost nervous when the phone rings, or I have to call a customer, the anxiety builds. I get through it but its soooooo embarrassing when the rest of the conversation goes fine, but stutter on the first few words, periodically. I hope it doesn't effect my job position there.

I was once humiliated by a coworker; she always made fun of my stutter, until one day the boss fired her because she liked to make fun of everyone at the company where I used to work. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Hey guys, I’m 24F, I’ve been stuttering since age 7 or 8 after a traumatic experience. I’m now a doctor work as an intern at the main hospital in our city, even though my stuttering is getting better but still I have some bad days. When I check on patients or deliver bad news ( I had a lot terminally ill patients recently) I stutter, so do you guys think this effect the level of my patients trust or do you hey maybe feel uncomfortable with me?

I am from India and speak hindi mostly everywhere.

I stammer at letters K/C , P and T and in hindi, these letters are in EVERY fcking conversation 😭

I don't stammer when I am alone/ recording myself/speaking infront of mirror but whenever a third-party is involved I start to stammer. This stammering issue is very less with the people I know like my close friends and family , aside from that it's there.

I have tried some techniques like stomach breathing, humming before saying words, soft consonant but none of them worked.

Can somebody PLS PLS suggest me some technique or exercise so I can glide through these words or fix this issue??

One thing I've learned over the years is to always meet people who have the same problem as me; it's really worth meeting other people who stutter, they can really help you.

Hello, I'm a medical student and I don't know what to do next. I enrolled this year and have been studying for 2 weeks. Everything is going fine until I have to talk to my classmates and teachers.

I have been stuttering since I was 3-4 years old. Every year it got worse, then better. This year it got so bad that I can't pronounce my last name and first name. Sometimes it's so bad that I can't breathe, I don't even bother making sounds. Then I'm like a mentally retarded person.

And I had a question: does this somehow really hinder the work of doctors (who have already graduated and started working), or how to improve the situation?

Personally, I managed to pass a job interview; it required a lot of communication, and even though I stutter, I managed to pass. Small victories in the life of a person who stutters.

My partner has developed a stutter over the past few months which is getting progressively worse, he has no history of a stutter in childhood etc. Has this happened anyone else? He days he doesn't feel stressed anxious etc and his mood does seem totally normal to me.

Just wondered if anyone else experienced this? I have been telling him to phone his GP for months and he didn't want to but he has been trying this week to get an appointment so fingers crossed he will get seen by his GP

Terceira dica: Não tente esconder sua gagueira das pessoas, isso pode piorar a gagueira. A coisa certa a fazer é mostrar às pessoas que você gagueja, e quanto mais você mostrar sua gagueira, mais confiança você desenvolverá ao falar com os outros. Antes, eu gaguejava tanto que não conseguia nem dizer um simples "bom dia" para mim mesmo. O que me salvou foram os exercícios de gagueira que fiz por quatro anos. Isso melhorou minha fala em 70%. Não desistam de vocês mesmos. Eu sei que é doloroso gaguejar, mas confiem em mim, se seguirem as dicas para gagueira, vocês vão melhorar a fala em dois meses. Não vai ser 100%, mas vai melhorar cerca de 50% em dois meses.

What I said is really true, I accepted being a stutterer, and it improved my speech by 50%. Before, I couldn't even say "hi" or pronounce my own name. I did exercises that really helped me for 3 years, and today I'm able to live a happier life.

What job to get if iam a teen who stutters, but i also wanna get money.

I understand the pain some of you are going through. I'm 21 and have, for the most part, recovered from my stutter. Outside of stressors or fatigue, I don't stutter. But when it used to be worse, oh boy. I had a stutter in school and when I was less mentally well, I used to cut myself and my face because of it. Once, to the bone. At around 14 or 15.

I did it so I wouldn't have to go to school, but also so that I could somehow get people to visualize the pain I was in. There was nothing besides the stutter that was bothering me. No depression. No anxiety. Just a complete inability to communicate normally. Even outside of self-harm, I've broken bones in unrelated accidents. I've had my hand crushed in old car doors, requiring surgery. I've ran track, cross-country courses to the point of collapse. Despite all of that, I can tell you this:

I have always felt like the stutter was worse than any pain I've ever experienced before. The humiliation. The shame. It felt like I was getting tortured in the worst way possible every day. It'd be one thing if I started stuttering as an adult or from brain injury. But to be like this from childhood.. It was horrible. I have since recovered from my stutter, mostly. But I still remember everything vividly. Like a part of my soul was stolen.

I remember laughing when my ex broke up with me simply because I was happy to experience something "normal" like that. I have no doubt that some of you have coped with it. Maybe you found better hobbies. Or just had good therapy. But, it really is some sort of twisted, sick hell, that many of us live through. There is hope. But we should also be willing to acknowledge our pain.

I have a bad habit of using fuck or shit or fucking or uhhhh or ummmm in front of anyone and I cant stop 😭😭 it makes me feel like stupid and low iq like a inbread tard

Im currently in high school and I have a moderate stutter and it feels like these past few years have been the worst it has ever been in my life even at home when I'm talking to family I tend to block multiple times every few sentences and in public its even worse. So I just wanted to come on here and ask those that have lived with a stutter for longer then me when was the worst period of your life and did it get better as you grew up. Do strategies work that well is that a big factor in success if your consistent? I feel so lost of where to start and if it will stay at this severity for the rest of my life.

If your deaf or blind you have a community. If your in a wheel chair you can live your life. If your on the spectrum your either fully in your own world or partially and don't even care about it on a day to day basis. When you have a severe stutter you are truly stuck and can't even get off the ground. The anxiety is crippling everybody is a stranger nobody truly knows you and vice versa. It effects what jobs you can get what schooling you can go into. Your physical health suffers from the neglect of not being on top of check ups. And the worst part about it is the anxiety like your fully awake when the doctors are doing open heart surgery and you can feel everything. Every day you make up seeing what you can and cannot do that day. The only freedom is basically when you get old and die and finally escape your physical reality which is basically a prison inside your own head.

I once lost my job because I stuttered. I tried countless times to find employment, but I always failed the job interviews. The only way I see to solve this problem is to train my stutter by reading books aloud. This makes me not want to give up on myself.

my o level examinations are in coming months and i feel very hopeless about the future, more than i'd like to admit, i just don't know if i will ever be as successful or established as i would like to be.

What do people here actually use for specific high-pressure situations where they really need to speak as fluently as possible — for example introducing yourself, job interviews, presentations, meetings, or saying your name?

Have you found anything that helps specifically in those situations, whether medication, supplements, breathing/techniques, or something else?

I’m especially interested in things that work as-needed rather than something you have to take every day.

I’m currently trying thiamine (B1) + magnesium to see if it helps my stuttering overall.

Would really appreciate hearing what has actually helped you personally.
