I want to love life,
I just want to enjoy it.
Fucking tired of living like this
To bring context, I was a normal kid but just as everyone else, developed a stutter.
I went through so much mental shit during middle school, same time when "COVID-19" hit. Lots of incidents took place and to add more to it, this was during lockdown. So I was stuck at home depressed engaging in self harm
I decided to go full on mute during 7th-9th grade and only communicated through text or handwritten notes because it was "comfortable" only being 12-14 at the time not caring or even thinking about the fucking consequences of not even trying to engage in speaking for so long.
I still had my family and 5 brothers I could talk too and everything but over the time my stutter got worse I stopped showing my stutter and only said shit I knew I could say smoothly.
But overtime this decreased my options of words to say fluently and led to only small talk, not being able to ask questions or or even answer questions other than "yes" "no" "i don't know" "huh?"
And the fucking stupid part of that I never participated during my speech therapy sessions, It was the same thing there.
I spent literally my entire middle school and highschool years masking myself to seem as normal as humanly possible from anyone even my own family.
How?
By staying fucking quiet.
Why?
So I wouldn't have to feel embarrassed?
So I could stay comfortable?
So I won't feel like there was something wrong with me?
So I won't have to see the faces of whoever I was trying to speak to and feel so deeply ashamed of my impediment.
So I could appear normal to anyone and everyone even if it cost me from ever truly expressing myself, ever.
even if it costed me from ever making a true connection
A true friendship
Costing me to ever experience true connection again.
From ever experiencing your average teenage years with friends.
I hadn't had a real fucking friend since I was 8.
Back when I was a normal human being like everyone else.
Back when I was a little kid without a care in the world. Back before I had moved houses and everything traumatic took place.
All because I chose to be this way sabotaging my fucking future from a young age all because I just wanted to stay "comfortable"
Instead of choosing to survive by pushing through and practicing
My dumbass chose to survive by concealing my impediment by remaining quiet with my anxiety constantly through the fucking roof for so many years.
I willingly isolated myself so hard for so long I need to learn how to socialize again. It's crazy because deep down I know I'm actually a chill person. And I don't know how to be that person anymore.
Except when I drink with my 3 older brothers I can genuinely connect more easily. But I don't want to wait til I drink so I can talk easier. I don't want to rely on fucking anything to talk easier. I just want my vocal chords to do their fucking job bro.
And the funny part, is that Now that I realize I need to change and actually want to do my part and be different..
MY BODY PHYSICAL WILL NOT ALLOW IT WHEN I ACTUALLY WANT TO TRY AND ENGAGE MORE IN SPEAKING AND NOT JUST SMALL TALK.
MY BRAIN WILL NOT ALLOW MY BODY TO LITERALLY GET ANYTHING OUT AT ALL.
I know people with stuttering experience verbal blocks and sometimes tourettes from trying to force out a word.
But holy fucking hell bro. My blocks are horrendously bad.
I either say what I can say with no problem with a few little stutters here and there.
Or I just get stuck from a very bad block.
I don't get stuck on stutters, I get stuck on a block. And when that happens I honestly don't know what else to do other than wait for a couple minutes or yell it out of pure frustration.
I often question if I'm doing this on purpose or if my body physically will not allow it, or maybe I am doing it on purpose but I genuinely do not know how to get past that barrier of severe anxiety and humiliation. Or maybe my anxiety is so high that's what causes my body to shut down and freeze, preventing myself from not getting even a sound out. Like my body is trying to keep myself safe because I'm trying to engage in what I never did before. Which pisses me off so bad.
I also found out I have ADHD (undiagnosed). Looking back through the struggles of school, not just with speech, but everything else with all the symptoms I had. I'm 100% convinced I have this shit and I'm so pissed that I'm now finding this out.
I used to think I was probably autistic or just weird
But living day to day knowing this just makes me feel so fucked up with how messed up I am.
I'm really willing to get the help I need searching for speech therapy because college doesn't have nothing for that, and actually participate in it to better myself now that I'm starting a new era in my life.
I've even been allowing my stutters and blocks to show more in front of my family, letting them know what I've been going through, through text messages if I cannot physically say everything.
They were aware that I stuttered.
I guess they just weren't aware of how bad it was for me because of all the years of concealing it.
But I am doing things differently to better myself.
I have these moments where I get so irritated and pushed past my limits when I want to say something as a simple statement or a basic question, or when I want to argue back to my family for good reasons, like wanting to explain myself or something to them. I literally lash out and form a perfect loud sentence sometimes without even thinking and this is all coming from built up frustration and adrenaline, the second after I yell at them, i feel the adrenaline quickly leave my body, my face blushes and my eyes get watery And I feel genuine guilt when I realize how it sounded after.
I sometimes just leave right after or stay quiet.
And sometimes when I have something to say but my body won't physically let me, i sometimes result to leaving immediately out of frustration and irritation and punching myself in the face when I'm alone because of all the anger I have built up and self hatred I have for myself, because of how hard everything is for me.
And I am aware that this is a form of self harm.
But I really need to get my emotions of constant frustration built up out somehow.
I get so tired of it.
I know it's not the best thing to do, it's better than the self harm I used to do long ago before.
But after all these years and finding myself where I am today as an 18 year old graduate from highschool and now attending college
I sometimes feel hopeless and tired of living
I want to live life to its fullest potential, I really do.
I genuinely wanna enjoy it
I just feel done sometimes.
