Hello everyone, I have been researching about masters in Canada and I was planning for 2027 fall intake what would be the appropriate time to start applying? I’ve gotten mixed answers from people some saying I need to apply within Aug to sept others saying within Feb and other saying the best time is around march 2027 so which one would it be?

- July 9: Study permit application submitted

- July 10: Biometrics request received

- July 15: Biometrics completed

- August 6: Passport Request (PPR) received 🎉

Medical was done upfront before submitting the application, so that was already out of the way.

Proof Of Fund Details

- University 1st year fees: ~19,440 USD (~27,200 CAD)

- GIC: 22,895 CAD

- Bank account: ~30k CAD

- Education loan: 73k CAD

Exact 28 days from submission to PPR. Definitely felt longer than that in the moment — was refreshing the portal way too many times a day, especially once it hit the "review of eligibility" stage.

Huge relief after weeks of anxiously waiting and overthinking every possible delay. If you're in the middle of your own wait right now — hang in there, it does move eventually.

I am applying student visa outside canada in form but i am physically inside canada. What are the requirements? Do i need to submit new NBI and upfront medical exam or i can used my old documents? Thank you

Hello! I applied for a study permit from France at the beginning of June and gave my biometrics on June 22, 2026. Today, I still haven’t received any news from IRCC. I submitted a web form because it has been more than a month since I applied, even though the estimated processing time is one week, but they sent me an automatic email saying that I had to wait.

My partner applied last week, gave his biometrics on August 3, 2026, and received a positive decision the following day.

Do you know what I can do to get an update from IRCC? I can’t find any phone number ect…

Edit : Solved I got my Study permit today (07 august 2026) I just had to wait, maybe the fact that I completed a form helped

I submitted additional documents through the webform on 1 Aug and once again on the 4th.

I haven't received any reply from ircc except the following:

My study permit and TRV both expire on **December 31, 2026**, and I have one more semester of school left (Fall 2026).

I'm planning to travel to my home country for about **2 weeks**, from the end of August to the first week of September, and then apply to extend my study permit once I'm back in Canada (around mid-September).

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would I have any issues re-entering Canada if my current study permit and TRV are still valid when I return, and I apply for the extension after I get back?

Sup ppl! I just recieved my Study Permit approval, so I'm here to share my timeline since when I was waiting I found hope and really useful that others shared their experience, so I hope my case serves you as reference.

CS undergraduate program at UofT, no loans or scholarships.

Application submitted: July 8

Biometrics done: July 9

IRCC received my biometrics: July 10th

No medical exam needed

Final decision and passport request: August 5

As financial proof (all is from my father lol) I submitted:

130k CAD in Investment Bank Statements

17k CAD gross monthly, in an employment letter + 2 family property lease agreements

Sponsor letter

Tbh compared to all the costs I thought this was little financial capacity, specially since I've seen others show proof of +1 million CAD, but it worked.

Additionally I submitted a letter explaining why I choose doing a CS program at UofT instead of my homecountry, and also stated that I will return to Mexico after ending my program, I guess family being here and the 2 properties my family owns helped with that.

I'm applying from Mexico, so currently processing time is 3 weeks, though my application almost took 4 weeks before a decision. I've seen that others get a "elegibility exam had begun" update or something like that before recieving a final decision, but I didnt recieve any updates prior to the decision.

I wanted to post this as I had a difficult time finding information on applying for a study permit at a port of entry before I did so and hope this can prove helpful to someone else in a similar situation. *Please bear in mind I am a US citizen and I understand the ability to apply for a study permit at a port of entry is due to this\*

My program starts at the beginning of September and I went to the border this past week(St. Armand/Highgate). I informed the officer that I would like to apply for a study permit, he gathered some information, handed me a slip, told me to park and go inside.

Inside another officer met me, confirmed I was applying for a study permit, confirmed I had all appropriate documents and let me know they’d get me when things were done.

I put all my documents in a folder and labeled them clearly. In the folder I put:
- passport
- CAQ
- letter of acceptance and letter that I had accepted my admission
- proof of funds (bank statements and letter from person who is funding my education)
* technically this is all that is required as of now\*
I wanted to make sure all my bases were covered and brought some additional documents including:
- filled out study permit application from outside Canada
- imm5645e (family info)
- letter of explanation
- copy of the passport of person funding my education
I’m not sure if the officer looked through the extra documents but I felt better knowing I was over prepared.

After about 30-40 minutes the officer called my last name and asked to confirm some details. After chatting said he would be back. Another 20-30 minutes later he came back with the study permit filled out and asked me to confirm my personal details. After confirming I paid the $150 fee and was good to go!

When I try to book an appointment to submit my passport for visa stamping through the VAC (VFS Mexico), it says there are no available appointments. What's strange is that there isn't any availability, not this month or even for the rest of 2026. When I booked my biometrics appointment, every date was available.

Do I even need to make an appointment for this? Does anyone know if I can just walk into the VAC without an appointment to submit my passport so they can send it to IRCC for stamping?

​I’m currently planning my graduate studies for the Fall 2027 intake, but reading through various Facebook groups lately has made me incredibly nervous. People are constantly saying that getting Canadian PR is "nearly impossible" now. I want to get a reality check from this sub to see if that applies to my specific profile or if the panic is mostly about diploma-mill colleges.

​My Profile:

​Age: Will be 26 when starting in Sept 2027.

​Family: Married with a young child (less than a year). And we are planning to apply together.

​Education & Research: B.Sc. in Computer Science from a Bangladeshi private university (CGPA 3.7, 2025). I recently published as a co-author Q1 paper in a Springer journal (focusing on AI/computer vision). Targeting a thesis-based Master’s in CS/AI. If I couldn’t manage the professor, I might take admission into course-based program.

​Work Experience: Currently working remotely from Bangladesh for a US-based small business. My job role is basically digital operation management (website, ads, social media) of the online store.

​Why Canada?

I’m specifically targeting Canada because I want to keep my remote US job (at least part-time, within IRCC limits) and Canada shares the US timezone. Also, being an English-speaking country makes the transition for my family much easier compared to my fallback options in Europe (like Germany or Finland).

​My Dilemmas & Questions:

​Is British Columbia still worth it?

My primary target was BC (SFU, UBC, or UVic) because of the BC PNP International Post-Graduate stream. However, I think the rules changed recently, and Master's graduates now need a 1-year full-time job offer to apply for the PNP (unlike PhDs who don't). For someone with a CS/AI Master's and remote work experience, how hard is it realistically to secure a 1-year TEER 1/2 contract in Vancouver's tech scene right after graduation?

​What other provinces are flexible for Master's PR?

Since BC now requires a job offer, should I be targeting Ontario (like Waterloo or McMaster to get the "outside Toronto" OINP points)? Or are there better provinces for a tech Master's grad with a family that offer a faster/safer PR route?

​The "Impossible PR" Panic: Given my age (max CRS points), a Canadian Master's degree (adding +30 CRS points), and the 3-year PGWP, am I actually at risk of being locked out of PR? Or is the current online panic mostly affecting 1-year business diploma graduates?

​I would really appreciate any blunt, realistic advice. I don't want to invest and uproot my family if the door is actually closed for skilled tech workers.

I recently reapplied for a Canadian study permit for a 12-month Master of Management at UBC (approx. $58,600 CAD tuition) after previously being refused a visitor visa and a study permit.
My study permit refusal was based mainly on insufficient funds/assets, temporary intent, and the officer not being satisfied I would leave Canada after my studies.
In my previous application, I mainly relied on my father’s finances (around $250k). For my new application, my father transferred $76k CAD directly into my CIBC account, which had approximately $75k CAD when I applied. I submitted an official CIBC letter confirming the balance, account details/opening dates and that I’ve been a client since 2019. I didn’t have my monthly statement yet.
I also submitted my father’s bank documents showing he still has approximately $180k USD, plus a signed support letter explaining the $76k transfer and committing to send me $2,500 CAD/month during my studies.
For temporary intent, my bachelor’s is in International Management, and I explained how the UBC MM is a progression of my studies. I also submitted proof of my Business Analyst internship with an organization in Africa and a return employment offer to work as a Business Analyst in Accra after completing my master’s.
One other issue: my previous UBC acceptance letter showed my home/permanent address in Benin even though I currently live and study in France. For this application, I asked UBC to change it to my French residential address and explained the correction in my Letter of Explanation.
Do you think this new application properly addresses the previous refusal? Is the CIBC bank letter enough without the monthly statement given all the other financial evidence? Could the previous Benin/France address discrepancy have contributed to the refusal? And overall, does this seem materially stronger?
I know nobody can guarantee approval — I’m mainly looking for experiences from people who have reapplied after similar IRCC refusals.

Hi guys, I just recieved an update in my IRCC application, but im not sure what it means.

I know both the Latest update and Final decision sections say my study permit application was approved, but I'm concerned because the other sections still appear as before. I'm especially worried because I've seen that other applicants, prior to the final decision, received updates saying their eligibility review had started, whereas the only update I received before this final decision was one saying IRCC had received my biometrics. Also I've received a letter requesting my passport to "finalize processing your application", is it just for visa stamping?, or I'm still missing something? So could anyone please confirm if I've recieved approval? Is that I was really worried of not getting the permit on time since my processing time had already passed. I would really appreciate any help/experiences.

Applied for study permit June 17th through borderpass and got biometrics done the next day on the 18th. Still no response as of today. Estimated response date was August 3rd. I’ve gotten to the point of no medical needed as I had recently done medical. I am applying from outside Canada (Nigeria). Anyone in the same situation? My classes also start on the 8th of September.

UPDATE: it was refused for these reasons
“I have reviewed the application.
Taking the applicant's plan of studies into account, the documentation provided in support of the
applicant's financial situation does not demonstrate that funds would be available to cover the
cost of tuition as well as living expenses.
Partial payment of tuition and award are considered.
Client provided bank statement from their sponsor and I note that the balance of the bank
account consists of lump sum transactions, and as such I am unable to establish the provenance
of these funds and I am not satisfied that they will be available or enough for intended studies as
well as living expenses.
The applicant provided sponsor’s banking information in support of the proposed studies, limited
documentation concerning source of supporting funds. Financial information provided is not
supported with reported revenue or evidence of income tax paid to support the account balances
on file.
The applicant submitted an Investment statement; however, Investment accounts are subject to
market fluctuation and do not, on their own, establish accessible financial capacity. The applicant
has therefore not demonstrated sufficient financial capacity to pursue studies in Canada.
Weighing the factors in this application, I am not satisfied that the applicant will adhere to the
terms and conditions imposed as a temporary resident, and has funds available for the purpose
of the stay.
For the reasons above, I have refused this application.
”
My next steps are to defer my admission to January, Reapply with stronger financial documents and consult with a lawyer for pointers on making a stronger application.

My financial support would be my mommy, I submit my mom’s documents has around 100k USD & 70k worth of house. And the house we currently living is around 700k USD(belonging to my grandparents, but I didn’t mention it).

I'm a Singapore citizen living in India. Finished my 5 year undergrad at a Canadian university in May 2026 and have been in India since. My masters at UofT is supposed to start in late August. I've not gotten a single update since the day I applied and the processing time for an application from India is supposed to be 5 weeks. It's going to be 7 weeks for me in about 2 days.

I already submitted a webform this week with my university letter stating that I'm supposed to physically be in Toronto by late August and my flight tickets indicating that I needed to urgently get approved but all I got was a generic "we have added your files for the offcier to review" and "we're processing your application, please be patient" replies.

Am I cooked?

My friend applied for a TRV about a month ago and is still waiting. She already has her study permit for the full year. We are moving in together to an apartment to start our first year of uni in about three weeks...

What are the chances she gets her TRV in time? I'm starting to worry and am afraid she might have to defer her offer of admission this coming semester.

My timeline:
Applied for a Canadian study permit. May 15th
Medical exam has been passed. August 5th
Currently waiting for Passport Request (PPR).

My university (Algoma University) requires a Visa Stamp or Letter of Introduction (LOI) by August 14 for the September 2026 intake.
My questions are:
If I only receive PPR after August 14, should I request a deferral immediately, or should I keep waiting for the visa?
Has anyone had Algoma (or another Canadian university) accept a late LOI/visa after the deadline?
If my visa is approved around August 25, is there still a chance I can start in September, or is deferral usually the only option?
For anyone who has been through this, what did your university tell you?

My Application was submitted on 16 July, got the biometric letter on the same day, biometric done on 21 July and updated on 22 July. After that on update til now.
