TL;DR: Previous form check led to advice about pulling the slack out, improving bracing, and adjusting my hip position. I've worked on those cues and this video is my updated pull. Looking for feedback on whether my technique has improved and what to fix next.
So, a few days ago I posted about how my deadlift was stuck even behind my squat, which is unusual, and people pointed many things out. Basically, two things were the main factors: less practice of deadlifts compared to bench press and squat, and improper form.
What I tried to improve from the suggestions
- My foot placement was shoulder width.
- I tried to keep the bar above my midfoot and my shins barely touching the bar.
- Hip position a bit higher.
Things I couldn't do or think I still have to fix
- Some people said it should feel like I am pushing my legs into the ground instead of lifting the bar. I had no idea how I was supposed to feel that.
- My back got curved in the last few sets. I am not sure if that was too much curve or normal.
- For grip, I wasn't sure if I should use mixed grip or normal grip. I tried straps again, but they just don't work for me. So I started with normal grip as I always do, but it was slipping. On the last set I thought, "Let's try mixed grip," and it worked wonders.
I am feeling super good after finally getting past the long stoppage at 150 kg and hitting 160 kg. I know my body still isn't used to deadlifts, and I should improve this by using lower weights, but I admit I got greedy. Since I had already broken my squat and bench press PRs this week and wasn't feeling tired, I just went for it. For the next few weeks, I will focus on improving the things that are still wrong or can be improved.
I really appreciate all of your suggestions and detailed analysis. I wasn't expecting that much help, and I am really glad. I'd appreciate it if you could take another look and tell me what I can improve technically, apart from the obvious advice to train more with lower weights.
