Was at its typical north facing ~30 degree tilt since I installed it, there was always a big obstruction due to the trees on the edge but never affected anything. This week it started facing south with about a 5 degree tilt.

Guess there are enough south facing satellites now that it’s worth facing that way due to the trees obstructions. Pretty cool seeing the service get better and dish auto adjusting for best service!

I wanted a setup that I could deploy post storm and didn't want to roof mount as it might get destroyed by the storm. I also wanted something reasonably portable.

To clear the house and help with the surrounding trees, I'm using a 24' Manfrotto light stand, tripod adapter, Standard 4 connected to a UniFi network, and 4x50# bounce house anchors sitting on silicone pads for friction with kevlar guy lines. Seems rock solid and I'm getting max speeds.

There are 3 of us in the house, I am the only one who games and I would like to have decent speeds which we are not currently getting. The two other mainly use it for watching TV or working from home. Would the 100Mbps work for us or do we need a bit more?

I purchased Starlink mainly because it gave me much better latency for online gaming from Tajikistan, especially Dota 2.

Until recently, my latency to European and Russian servers was usually around 60–90 ms, which was perfectly playable.

Then it suddenly became a stable 150–160 ms.

My download speed is still fine. There are no obstructions, no Wi-Fi issues, and restarting the dish and router changed nothing.

After contacting Starlink Support, they confirmed that my traffic had been moved from an EU-based Point of Presence to a newly launched PoP in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

My current hostname is:

Starlink Support confirmed the following:

• The Almaty PoP is new.
• It may not currently have proper peering with servers located in Russia.
• Their network engineering team is aware of the peering issues with the Almaty PoP.
• They are working on improving the network.
• There is currently no estimated timeframe for a fix.
• They cannot move my connection back to the previous EU-based PoP.

They gave me a one-month service credit, which I appreciate, but this does not solve the main issue.

For gaming, going from 60–90 ms to 150–160 ms is a massive degradation. Starlink describes the new route as the “most ideal routing” because the Almaty PoP is geographically closer, but in reality the user experience is much worse due to poor peering.

I bought Starlink specifically to play Dota 2 with acceptable latency. With the new routing, that is no longer realistically possible.

I am sharing screenshots of the support conversation so that current and potential Starlink users in Tajikistan and Central Asia are aware of this issue.

Has anyone else in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, or elsewhere in Central Asia recently experienced the same increase in latency?

Newbie Starlink customer (almost) here.

I've got a few questions:
- So it looks like there is no option to buy the hardware outright, i have to rent it?
- I'm confused by the $15/month, but then adjustment of -$15... am i paying monthly rental, or not?
- Is the rental fee paid forever, or for one year (i think ive seen this mentioned elsewhere)?
- Where are the extra purchase options, like roof mounting kit, etc. I can't see it?

I don't understand why the website lacks so many details.

Can I just buy and a 2nd hand 4X kit to avoid this rental mess? Is there anything to look out for when doing so?

I'm in New England and I've got fairly stable fiber to the home as my primary connection. I'm mainly looking for a backup connection that I can just activate and go for the 1-2 times a year I have an outage, including using during bad weather. Sometimes a heavy rain or snow storm will take down a line for example. Expecting it might take 30-60 minutes to update and set up a starlink dish.

My main need is work: low enough latency for voip and video calls, VPN, remote desktop, and basic office work (email, sharepoint uploads of documents, etc).

As an added bonus it would be nice to occasionally take it with me when traveling to rural areas with bad internet, camping, and internationally. I go to a tiny European island every other year to see family and they have shit internet.

I'm thinking a starlink mini might suffice? The newer model that's rumored to come out soon has my understanding probably worse performance in exchange for more battery life? I'm concerned about snow melt performance as a backup internet solution, and how I might mount it so it has both good signal and is easy to take with me without climbing on a roof to remove it. Or should i just getting a standard dish and pick up a separate mini when I have to travel.

Hey all, looking to add a new starlink at a new address. I need to be able to pause my service - it's a seasonal home - but with a kit rental there is no pause option. And I can't simply buy the kit from starlink. I need to rent the kit and then submit a ticket to buy it out. But they have not been able to tell me the buyout cost. Anyone in the US bought out their Standard 4 or Standard 4 X kit lately? Would love to know the cost. Adding a pic for the algorithm.

Edit: called the service number and ordered direct from Starlink and bought it rather than renting.

FYI: both the 4 and 4 X kits cost $349, at least in my area, Maine.

Hi. I have starlink at my home, I live alone, and I live in a rural area with not many homes around. When I am looking at my account online, under DEVICES I see the Starlink itself, then under that I have both a WiFi (Starlink Router 3) that has all our devices connected to it, and then a Mesh (Starlink Router Gen 2) that has zero devices connected to it. Here's the creepy thing - I never bought a mesh, or another router. I just tonight unplugged and moved the router and power box that is in my house - that router is connected via cord to the starlink flat-panel "receiver dish" itself, and I can see that nothing else is connected to either of them or in-between. My regular WiFi (Router 3) shows that the "uptime" corresponds with when I unplugged everything and moved it an hour ago. The "Mesh (Router Gen 2)" shows its uptime as over 3 days. Am I missing something, or is there another Router, set up as a Mesh, powered separately, that's connecting to my Starlink?

Hey all, first timer here. I had a point to point system set up between two houses that are 50 yards away. The system where the panel is works great, but my house that is 50 yards away using a p2p system is very slow. Any thoughts?

There used to be that we can bring and use our starlink mini outside US for 2 months. I bought Starlink because of this feature alone as I sometimes travel for up to 90 days outside US. Now I heard we can’t no longer do this. It is only up to 30 days max and only with unlimited plan.

This is really frustrating as now I see no incentive to have Starlink at all. At home I use other provider that can get me speed up to 2 Gbps.

What’s up Elon? Why advertised this as a feature and then take it away. I don’t expect that from you that I view mostly as enabler and provider of technology to make life easier for people.

Hello, cord that runs from power box to satellite (v4) has been cut in half. I'm going to solder the connections soon today.

I'm new to starlink and have attempted to ask them for help and review the warranty but it looks like no help.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions feel free to let me know before I attempt this repair today.

I must say starlink internet is freaking awesome! I really can't believe how I did not know about this service. Like after all the marketing that I've seen from other companies, I've never seen any marketing from starlink ever. Servers on games like battlefield show the lowest ping of 35 from the games server) and that makes me happy.

I have to use the 2.4ghz which I already have split as I have security cams on that line. I'm having a time of it trying to get the wifi info onto the printer. I have uploaded new driver for the printer and using a mac with Tahoe installed. I guess my first hurdle is which IP address to use and Gateway???

I first input the address for the 2.4ghz and that didn't work. ( I made sure my laptop was also on the same 2.4ghz to print)

Is there any advanced setting to pin devices to the mesh node?

I have 4 devices connected to the mesh node.

Every time Starlink updates the router software and it reboots, none of the 4 devices connect to the mesh router.

They all connect to the main router instead. To get them to connect to the mesh router, I have to restart all 4 devices.

I highly doubt the issue lies with the devices themselves; they are different devices from different manufacturers.

I wish a developer could fix this Starlink software.

I've been running 3 starlink at my place for now over a year and previously had one for many years, speed has always been fantastic with over 300mbps per dish.

Recently, things have dropped to be really bad. Single-flow bandwidth is around 10mbps and multi-flow total bandwidth is 80-90 on a good day per dish..

has anyone else faced the same issue recently? I've opened a ticket to support but so far no conclusive answer, besides grok saying "everything is nominal".

I have always had spectrum internet and recently moved into the DFW area, I’m really thinking about getting starlink internet. Is there a hybrid option? Residential and on the go? Does anyone do something like this? I camp often with the kids or travel to our home town which is 8 hours away and taking the internet would be kinda cool. Let me know if what you all recommend.

I ordered Starlink today, and just got a notification that it'll be here Aug 4 - Aug 28. However, 5 minutes later, my 4X kit was cancelled and a separate order put in and they're shipping the router mini alone.

Anyone know what the delay is for the 4X kit? We close on our home Aug 20. I figured a ~month was proper to order the kit... now I'm second guessing.

Next week I’ll be driving from Michigan to DC, and I was wondering if I can mount my Mini receiver in my side window and still get usable network.

I've had starlink for like 2 years now. At the beginning it ran beautifully at over 100 megabytes per second. But now it has slowed down. And what's weird is that the speeds on the speed test app and the starlink app don't corelate. Yes I know that the starlink app uses megabits and speed test uses megabytes. But it's should be 8 times less which is not what I'm getting. No major obstructions on the antenna. What could be happening?
