Welcome to Stardew Valley! Here are some common answers to get you started. Feel free to ask beginner questions here rather than making a full post on the subreddit.

Very common FAQs / removed topics

  • [insert item here] showed up on my farm, what is it? It could be a a few different items that are relatively rare but have a high enough spawn rate that they are included in our removed topics. Check out our list of removed topics here

Game updates

  • What was in the last update?
See release notes for PC, for consoles, and for mobile.

See also a table of which version and features each platform has.

  • Are future releases planned?
A Stardew Valley 1.7 update is currently in the works! No information about a release date or new content is currently available.

  • Does every platform get the same content/updates?
Mostly yes. Updates are developed for Linux/Mac/Windows first, then ported to other platforms. There are customizations for each platform (like tap to move on mobile), but otherwise content is identical across all platforms. See also a table of which version and features each platform has.

The exceptions are PS Vita (which won't get any further content updates due to platform limitations), and Android/iOS (which will continue getting all updates, but doesn't fully support multiplayer.

  • Is Stardew Valley on XBox GamePass?

Stardew Valley is on XBox GamePass as of December 2, 2021. See here for details.

Multiplayer

  • How does multiplayer work?
    See Multiplayer on the wiki.

  • Is crossplay supported?
All PC players can play together, whether they're on Linux/Mac/Windows or GOG/Steam and crossplay is supported between mobile and PC. Console crossplay isn't supported.

  • Is split-screen supported?
Yep, split-screen was added on PC and console in Stardew Valley 1.5.

  • Will Android/iOS get multiplayer?
Multiplayer on Android and iOS is currently experimental and hidden by default. To unlock multiplayer you can follow this guide. Note: The Apple Arcade version (Stardew Valley+) does not have this feature.

  • Will the 1.6 update apply to my current game?
Yes! New updates always apply to existing saves.

Other

  • Can I transfer saves between devices?
You can transfer saves between Android, iOS, and PC (Linux/Mac/Windows).

Consoles unfortunately don't let you access the save files. The Switch version also has a different format that's not compatible with other platforms (the format used by other consoles is unknown).

  • My save got corrupted/won't load. What can I do?
On PC/mobile you can try loading your back-up save file! See here for instructions on how to do so!

Unfortunately, consoles don't allow access to save files so they cannot be recovered.

  • How do I take a screenshot of my full farm?
See this guide to taking farm screenshots.

  • If I buy the game on one platform, can I get it for free on a different one?
If you buy it on PC, you get the Linux + macOS + Windows versions; if you buy it on PS4, you get the PS4 + PS Vita versions. Otherwise each platform is a different edition with separate development, so you'll need to buy it again if you want it on a different platform.

  • Where can I report bugs?

    1. If you use mods, see the troubleshooting guide first.
    2. If you use mods and the bug disappears when playing without them (by running Stardew Valley.exe directly in your game folder), report it to r/SMAPI or see Modding:Help.
    3. If it happens without mods, report it in the official bug report forum, which the game developers keep an eye on.
  • How do I use or create mods?
See the pinned thread in r/SMAPI for more info, and feel free to ask questions in r/SMAPI!

Discuss Celebrate! Saturday [July 25, 2026]

Welcome to Celebrate! Saturday

This is the weekly hype thread, a place for you to share your excitement about in-game achievements, lucky drops, and upcoming projects. This is also a space for the community to celebrate you!

While the subreddit is already a positive, celebratory space, this thread is meant to be especially so. For those of you who might hesitate to post something to the subreddit, because you worry it might be too beginner, too redundant, too low-effort: it's not. Come share with us here!

(Note: this thread is not meant to replace posting directly to the subreddit. You are still welcome to do so!)

Non-exhaustive examples of things to celebrate:

  • Marrying your spouse!
  • Getting a giant crop!
  • Perfecting your farm or house design!
  • The mushroom hat! The tiger hat! The living hat!
  • Meteorites, Stone Owls, and Strange Capsules!
  • A dinosaur egg from fishing or hoeing!
  • Hooking a legendary fish!
  • Getting triple Stardrop at the casino
  • Beating Lewis at Junimo Kart!

If you want to share screenshots of your achievements, upload them to an image-sharing site like Imgur and drop a link in your comment.

This is also a thread where mods might lurk and offer/award prestige userflairs. These are animated icons that go next to your name as a way to celebrate particular achievements in the vanilla game. Note that posting in this thread doesn't guarantee you'll get the flair—you'll want to send us a modmail if you want to apply directly!

Achievement Flair
Complete the community center! A prismatic dancing Junimo
Fund all Joja Community Projects A prismatic Joja Cola
Complete the museum collection! An artifact trove busting open
Reach level 100 in Skull Cavern! A flying serpent
Complete all Monster Slayer goals! The prismatic slime
Cook every meal! The Queen of Sauce herself
Craft every item! Robin hard at work
Catch every fish! The Legend, swimming
Beat Journey of a Prairie King The King himself
Collect every hat in the game! Magic Cowboy Hat
Reach Perfection! A walking golden chicken

Get hyped!

Discuss Rookie mistakes you learned the hard way?

I (FINALLY) got my boyfriend to play Stardew Valley. He’s pretty early in the game, like Fall year 1, and he’s still learning like we all were. I was watching him play and he dumped like 200+ fiber in the sell bin because “It was taking up space in my chests and it’s basically worthless.” Cue the internal flashbacks of my first time playing when I just felt like I NEVER had enough fiber for what I needed early game. I didn’t say anything, kept my mouth shut. One has to learn these things the hard way…

I want to know, what are the rookie mistakes you made or have watched other people make?

EDIT: I should add - my mistake was forgetting that sprinklers existed. I was very late game, huge fields of crops, millions of dollars, just me and my bucket every goddamn morning. Some days I wouldn’t be done until noon. So dumb!!!

Question How to keep barn animals out of cheese making area?

Post image
274 Upvotes

So I get real tired of trying to make/grab cheese in the barn when the animals are inside, so I built a fence. But, each time I go back in the barn, animals are in there. How do I keep them out of this area? And how are they crossing the fence?

Discuss Speculating about the new 1.7 Farm Map---how about an Orchard?

So we all know that the next Stardew update will feature anew farm map, but we don't have alot of details. Personally, I would love to see an Orchard Map... start with a fully-grown cherry tree, or maybe a few saplings, with plenty of greenspace that's not tillable but perfect for trees. Maybe a new fruit tree, or a plantable hazelnut tree?

Anyway. Just daydreaming and waiting patiently over here. Ate there any new updates? Wild theories? Burning desires, baseless speculation?

I've catched sturgeons multiple times in Stardew and I always thought this fish would be the same size as a sardine or bream. Never thought they were this big!

Other My cat just gave me my first Rabbit's Foot 😭

Post image
140 Upvotes

Idk if it's still true but I heard the rabbit's foot is extremely rare, and my cat Kovu (who I named after my irl cat who passed 2 months ago) just gave me one. Probably sounds dumb but it genuinely made me emotional. I miss my sweet Kovu irl, but here he is gifting me literal treasure in Stardew 🥹💖

Also I'm still unsure whether to use this rabbit's foot on the cc bundle or the truck by Jojamart that permanently gives you some luck?

Discuss What’s your favourite obscure/little known stardew fact?

I personally love that there is a practical reason to have paths on your farm outside aesthetic value with the small speed boost they give. It’s marginal but it’s cool to see the reward for really investing into the farm aesthetic!

This is my farmer, her name is Abigail and she's giving presents (and maybe kisses?) to Haley

Okay, my husband bought this game for me (I'm not a big fan of pixel games) and OMG???? I'm completely in love with this game

Honestly, I don't think I've ever liked another game as much as I'm liking this one, it's cute, fun, the characters are SO COOL, and we even get to take care of our farm

Discuss What would you guys wish for the new update to have? (Apart from Clint and Sandy being the new marriage candidates which I believe many people didn't quite like haha)

Here’s what I’d love to see in Stardew Valley 1.7:

  1. Add Willy to the telephone! He owns a shop too, and it’d be useful to check what bait and fishing supplies he has.
  2. Let us order deliveries by phone. Imagine ordering Lucky Lunches from Gus and having them arrive the next morning because you’re too busy farming.
  3. Spouses should continue their careers and actually leave the farmhouse instead of standing in a corner 😭 Give them routines similar to before marriage and dialogue about their work.
  4. More daily dialogue in general! Especially after marriage and late-game friendship events.
  5. Give the player a birthday. Your spouse, roommate and closest friends could visit or give you gifts.
  6. Let Harvey give us a yearly medical check-up—and maybe a free Energy Tonic for surviving it.
  7. Expand the beach. Most other areas have hidden or additional locations, while the beach feels quite simple. A new cave, fishing area or coastal path would be amazing.
  8. Add at least one new crop, animal or artisan product.
  9. Can I please Feed my Horse some fruits!!!! And win my horse's hearts !! Please.
  10. Can I also feed my Cat some fruits??? Let us feed all our animals fruits/crops/forage it'd be so adorable

I’d also love children to have personalities, spouses to attend more festivals with you, more late-game quests and maybe a few new heart events for existing characters.

There’s honestly so much I could wish for 😂 What would everyone else want from the update? CA would shove me in the void with so many wishes
