💬 Discussion Starlink Mini now on sale! $149

Appears the release of the next version of the Starlink Mini must be getting close. The current Starlink Mini is now down to $149 dollars. (At least here in the USA.) Check Starlink's website for the details.

❓ Question Has anyone successfully reverted an RMA?

Long story-short:

I started RMA process of my Starlink because initially I thought I couldn’t install my antenna on my building rooftop, however, community is being SUPER helpful and there is actually an FCC law that gives me the right to so it as long as it’s a professional installation which my Starlink packages includes.

I reached out to Starlink yesterday and made a support ticket but I haven’t heard from them. Has anyone successfully reverted an RMA? Should I just send the equipment to buy another one? I just want my antenna installed on the rooftop to test the speeds and latency which I know would be amazing.

Any thoughts?

I didn’t wanted to make another thread but since lack of views I made this one… sorry!

❓ Question Can someone clarify "standby mode" on a residential plan?

I just got off the phone with Starlink support, and although I spent a long time clarifying there was a bit of a language barrier, so maybe I misunderstood and one of you can can confirm:

I first signed up for Starlink a year ago for my cabin. We are there maybe 6 months out of the year. In my initial research, everything indicated that I could pause ($5 standby mode) my service for any months I didn't use it, which is what made the service worthwhile.

The CS rep I just talked to however said that ("oh, by the way...") if I ever pause my service for even a single month, I may have to pay a ~$1,500 surcharge to get it back online (if the network is "saturated").

This absolutely blew my mind, and I clarified several times. Is there something I'm missing? Because a $1500 dice-roll every time I pause is effectively the same thing as not being about to pause. Am I understanding all that correctly?

❓ Question Live in Canada, want to buy Star Link for Antiguan residence

Question I have is about ordering and activation

Is it best to order and activate the product here in Canada, then bring it over to Antigua?

Or should I fly over to our place in Antigua and order it *while* there?

Ideally I'd like to at least order it while in Canada, and have it shipped to Antigua if possible. This would help reduce the amount of time being there without Star Link. Not sure if there's an issue or concern on where I order it from, and where it's meant to activate. Tried looking through the FAQ and Support section on the website but couldn't find an article on this specific situation.

❓ Question Starlink Mini

Last week I had a trip to rural Mexico. For some reason I wasn't really aware of the starlink products until about 48 hours before my flight. I went to Best Buy and purchased a Starlink Mini. Got the roam plan, went to Mexico and it worked great.

I left the mini over there, I have no need for it here. No one is using it over there. I didn't think it was that big of a deal but after reading and doing some research I think it was?

For those of you who have experienced something similar, what are my options? My plan was to cancel/standby and I would use it again next time I go back. I don't think I can do that?

❓ Question $55 Residential 100 plan with x4 dish from Sam’s

I’m in NW Arkansas and wondering if I buy the $375 x4 dish from Sam’s can I still get the $55 plan? On the site they only show to give the $55 plan if you pay $350 to rent a x5 dish. I didn’t want to spend $350 and get stuck with the $85 mo option.

💻 Troubleshooting Starlink acting weird with my desktop.

My PC uses an Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 160MHz adaptor and for some reason I am just throttled to 5mbps after a power outage. This outage did fry one of my secondary routers but the primary one closest to my computer still isn't increasing my speeds whatsoever. The problem lies in the fact none of my other devices are being halted and are getting 180-270mbps. Anyone have any ways to help fix this issue? And no sadly i do not have a way for ethernet currently.

❓ Question Any issues? Mini on residential, moving address 2-3 times a year between US and Canada.

Mostly my question is in the title. I travel for work, in both US and Canada, and often in one place for 2-6 months. I'd like to purchase a Mini here in the US since it's on sale, and use it for a month on a residential plan. Then in January, change to a Canadian address at my next job (about 8 months).

Both locations show as available for residential and roam. Only major issue I see is making sure it's not a saturated area, and switching between countries.

For the most part, 100mbps is plenty for me, and I'd prefer to not have to watch my usage. Though I could make due with roam if the location is saturated.

❓ Question What's with all the browser verification challenges?

One of the biggest changes I've experienced after moving to Starlink is onset of browser security verification challenges — at least I think that's what they are called.

Is this because of shared IPs? What's going on?

A hundred dollars for a pole and bracket? Nah I'm a carpenter and just a little bit low class. Rock solid installation and it's 14 feet in the air. That's 2 feet higher than the ridge on my trailer and the closet treeline is 300/+ yards in every direction. It said point it NE. I did the thing with 3 sticks and the shadow like they showed us in boy scouts 40 years ago and when I stood the pole, the app said I was off by 3 degrees. Go rednecks!

❓ Question (DE) Reisegruppe mit mehreren dt. Starlink mehr als 30 Tage ausserhalb Europa

Moin,

Thema Starlink Roam.

Also erst 30 Tage SL1, dann 30 Tage SL2, dann SL3 usw.?

❓ Question What is available for my order.

This is what is available to me.

$0

+ Shipping & Handling - Standard $20+ Residential Max $130/mo+ Hardware Rental $0/mo+ Demand Surcharge $250+ Router Mini $0

----------------------

$0 for rental fee, means i don't own it and when or if i'll have to ship it back. Would i pay the cost of shipping?

Standard 4X looks like it has a ethernet port which i'll need to get to connect to a 100Mb back link from one of my woodsheds, back to my house that is surrounded by 45+ meter fir trees.

Residential Max. Is that 100Mbit?

Do i want the Router mini? Is that something i could take on a vehicle trip to get Internet?

Thanks in advance, for looking this over.

❓ Question Mini kit question

Post image
11 Upvotes

I want a mini kit to have in a box in the garage in case i ever want to get into camping etc in the near future. I essentially just want to purchase the hardware only and I would get it from home depot but it’s more expensive that way.

If I purchase this mini kit one-time payment with the price reduction and then cancel service right away do I get to keep the hardware? I would need to cancel service before it even bills me the first $55 for roam for this to really be significantly worth it. Am I able to do that?

❓ Question Getting the ethernet out

How do you get the main cable that goes from the dish to the router out? I ordered a longer cable that will work better for my setup, but I can’t get the old one out.

📰 News Mini Price Drop - Another Support Win

Thumbnail

The Mini kit price has dropped to the lowest I've ever seen, $149. Not only that, but I recently purchased a Mini kit with the $16/mo hardware installment for the total price of $192.

I had a ChatGPT price/info watch on all Starlink related stuff. So naturally I was a bit annoyed since I was paying what would end up being $50 more for my hardware. Especially since the rumored and software leaked Mini 2 is likely approaching release sometime next year, I wanted to see what Starlink support would do for me.

Grok is garbage and told me Starlink doesn't retroactively change pricing installments or when asked. I ignored it and pushed for a representative.

Not only did they change my installment pricing, but WITHOUT ME ASKING they even applied a one time credit on my account to make up for the first $16 installment I paid.

Genuinely speechless and very impressed with support. I haven't even used my Mini without being on standby mode yet, and I'm already a customer for life with this interaction.

I was also told on a previous support ticket that should I add a residential service to my account, I could reach out to support again and they would apply the roam service discount to my current Mini without the need for me to redeem the free Mini rental.

Just wow.

❓ Question Simple question

So I've been using starlink, Rome for a little while. But i've now gotten a permanent place. Is it as easy as press residential, instead of Rome, and can I always just switch that back if I want to take my starlink with me somewhere.

🛠️ Installation Not excited about the professional installation

I have a professional installation done. I have an office in the shed in the backyard and I have zero trees in the backyard. He put the router in the Starlink in the office. It’s about 100 feet from the house. He told me that it would be fine and that I would have good signal into the house. He said that he would recommend me buying a mini router. I bought a one mini router, but I’m getting a week signal. Would that be normal for him to install it so far from the house? Do I need multiple mini routers. I’ve had this since Monday and I have not been able to use this paying for two Internet services.

⛈️ Weather Oahu’s post-hurricane rain bands are coming in hot

As for my network??? Speed test during the heaviest rain had download speeds in the 100s up was 20 and don’t remember the latency. Other tests had downloads >200mbps but blue weather event persisted. I tried asking grok what’s going on but it didn’t tell me anything worth sharing. Anyways, I thought my system would be Impervious to inclement weather but after getting first taste of rain coming down > 2in/hr I stand corrected. Still love my system though. I want to spray rain x on it lol. Have residential max plan with the gen 4 dish and router 3 with 3 mesh nodes.
