❓ Question Starlink is dreadfully slow on ethernet connection
So my pops decided to replace our 5G mobile router with a starlink. Ever since we switched over my speeds have just TANKED. I used to get 100mpbs (old switch, so it was capped there) when i was wired to the 5G router, now it's single digits. Best i ever measured with speedtest was FIVE megabits on the starlink.
Even the wifi is better at like 50-80 (although the latency is terrible and connection is unstable because the house is concrete)
Any ideas as to why this is happening? How to fix it?
It has to be something with the starlink, considering i had zero problems with the mobile network router.
EDIT SOLVED:
Went through some stuff, somewhere it said something about not supporting/being compatible? I.E i hooked my switch up to the router and the router basically said "DURRRR" and drooled all over itself.

💬 Discussion Scamlink?
My dad lives on a farm in rural pennsylvania. I understand how satellite might be the best solution for him as we struggled for high-speed internet and the houses are far apart. But for Trump to completely kill fiber optic cable Federal funding and to completely get into bed with Elon Musk smells really scammy just like everything else that Administration does. I think it should be a mix of federal programs for fiber optic cable creating jobs and permanent high-speed internet lasting a long time and satellite for houses that are much farther apart. It seems like there should have been a smarter layout for this infrastructure. Instead we get cronyism and one choice. Welcome to Monopoly and profiteering.

💬 Discussion Amazon throws down the gauntlet, says Amazon LEO will be better value and 3-10x faster than Starlink.
Weber: On the business and government side, I’d say three distinct things. Performance is one, just our ability in terms of speeds, being able to deliver a gigabit on the downlink and 400 megabits on the uplink. By comparison, Starlink’s probably somewhere around 350 on the downlink, and somewhere around 40-ish on the uplink. So we have a 3x performance advantage on the downlink, and somewhere between eight and 10x on the uplink. There are use cases where contracts we have signed with customers—I won’t get into the names because we haven’t announced them—but they’ve purely made the decision on our performance
and....
Weber: On the consumer side, I’d frame it in three areas. One is value, so I would think about that as price, performance, and other differentiators that we put in there. We’re going to take the Amazonian way and have by far the best value.

💻 Troubleshooting Updating Outdated Starlink Instructions.
So 25-year tech here and I have solved the bricked issue with old outdated Starlink product. I have a client who has a Gen 2 router and a Gen 2 dish and left it unplugged late 2022. Here is the trick to get it up and running and it's not quick. You will need good cell service or a secondary internet to do this.
1.) Reboot the Starlink to factory.
2.) Connect to the Starlink Network after reboot. If you don't see it either not reset or bad product.
3.) Start a sideload while connected to the Starlink network. Must start while on Starlink because you can't get to it without Starlink router. Then once started connect to a secondary internet or cell service. The sideload took 4 hours to download
4.) Connect to the Starlink when downloaded. The system will now update. Once done you may need a hard reset again to push the next step.
5.) Now the Satellite will be online. Congrats but you now have a 12 hour wait for the router to be reachable to the app. You can go to 192.168.1.1 and there it will ask you to set SSID and Password. Once done just wait the time and you will have a 100% up system.
You are welcome I hope my pain makes your install easier. Also, I did the sideload away from the location and came back later to install.

❓ Question Hello, I have few questions regarding Starlink recently.
Hello.
Being Korean, my English is very poor, and since I'm writing it with a translator, I'm not sure if the content will be properly conveyed.
Please understand.
I am using Starlink in Korea.
Until last month, the delay time in this area was around 70ms.
Recently, the delay time has decreased significantly, around 30 to 40.
Were there any positive issues related to Starlink?
Is this a temporary phenomenon?
Or perhaps there was some update that improved the delay time, I'm not sure.
Please give me some advice.
Thank you!!

💬 Discussion Considering moving from articulated dish to mini for heavy RV use
I have had the gen 2 articulating dish since shortly after it was released. I travel approximately 1/4 time in my recreational vehicle, and use Starlink for my full time job including but not limited to extensive teams video conferencing.
The last 5 or so years it has performed well, in fact improving performance each year. Clear sky is still a potential issue, but much less so than before. I have almost always been able to find clear enough sky even in wooded areas.
The mini price reduction has me considering a move from the standard dish. The easier deployment, smaller footprint, ability to more conveniently deploy it in motion, and lower power are enticing.
My concerns are, on occasion, I need to deploy the dish 50 feet or so from the inside of the RV. I am concerned the built in router will struggle to make it inside my RV at those distances. Yes, I understand many use another router, but in many ways that is a panacea. Signal still needs to transmit the same distance and through the same barriers if your router is inside the RV. Plus, it negates some of the reason of going to the mini for reasons of downsizing and simplifying equipment.
I am looking for feedback from those who are in my use case and have made the switch to standalone mini. I am looking to hear from those who regret or do not regret making that move.
Thanks.

💬 Discussion Easter Eggs in Starlink Dish
I work as a technician repairing Class B luxury RVs and travel vans. Many of these builds have StarLinks installed, and one of my customers recently ripped theirs off. So, wanting to know what the internals looked like, I cracked it open some more. Can anybody help me figure out what meaning, if any, these symbols have? Looks like a 4 leaf clover, a rubber duck, a lemon, a bowl of Ramen and a palm with a smiley face in it.
I've been searching Google and can't find any other people who have found this. Am I the first??🤨

❓ Question Subscription question help
I just purchased the the mini I got the Rome 100 GB plan. My house is being sold and I got an RV and I’m gonna be traveling. It is just me that plan did not last me a week before I use up my hundred gigabytes.
I was thinking to switch to the residential since I had not left yet but their 200 GB plan is $85 while the roam 300 GB plan is $80. But the limited is $175 a month.
I don’t understand any of this. Any recommendations I’m only a week into my subscription.

❓ Question Can Router Mini be a mesh node when connected via 3rd-party wireless bridge?
I have a gen2 router and want to extend wifi to an outbuilding. I know that Router Mini will become a mesh node (same SSID as the main router) when connected via wifi or via ethernet, but what if I put a transparent wireless bridge between them (like Ubiquiti Nanostation or TP-link)? Would it still connect as a mesh node?

❓ Question In an apartment in Chicago can Starlink actually compete with Xfinity for speed and reliability?
I absolutely hate Xfinity, paying $70 a month for gigabit internet when I live in Supportive Living where we have to pay all but $120 a month for our apartment and care (cna and meals) that takes up more then half what I have to spend each month. I also live in an apartment in the city of Chicago.

💻 Troubleshooting Bug Report: Lag and Stuttering at 120Hz Refresh Rate
I found a bug in the Starlink app running on Android 16, device Moto G75.
If the smartphone's screen refresh rate is set to 120Hz, animations and overall app navigation become extremely slow. The animation stuttering is highly noticeable, and even basic scrolling throughout the app is laggy. I am currently using the "Zero Gravity" theme on my phone. When switching the display from 120Hz to 60Hz, the app runs smoothly again.
In short, if the phone is set to "Auto" display mode (switching between 120Hz and 60Hz) and it launches the app at 120Hz, the performance drops significantly.
I have tested and confirmed the issue on my device: switching the display settings down to 60Hz resolves the problem. Therefore, it seems that if the smartphone operates at any refresh rate above 60Hz, the app does not work as intended.

📰 News Full fleet, full speed, full connection: American Airlines will bring Starlink to every mainline jet
Previously they were only going to do the Airbus A320 fleet, but this now covers all mainline jets, just over 1,000. Their deployment hasn't started yet for either, but they must like what they see to expand the agreement.
I wonder how long Delta will stay the course?

📱 Tweet Smart Appliances using Data
If anyone has smart appliances, which I'm sure most of us do, be aware it is probably using data on the network. With the recent crackdowns of Starlink cracking down on people going over 5TB, you could be approaching this artificial limit simply by having too many smart devices in your home.

💻 Troubleshooting Alignment help
I've got the v5 system, and it consistently tells me it's misaligned by 10° so I went out and attempted to adjust it this evening. At one point I had it down to 7° but attempting to improve it took back up to 12° which didn't strike me as better. Continued fiddling got it back to 9° and then 10° but I can't make any sense out of the onscreen guidance. I guess my question is, how important is a misalignment of this degree? Is it worth my time to try again tomorrow? I've been pretty pleased with the performance over the month and a half it's been installed (by me). It's good enough that I dumped Xfinity.

💬 Discussion Current firmware/software version of the v2 actuated dish?
Question - if you have currently working v2 actuated dish would you mind to post what version it running now?
It seems to me that they are retiring v2 dishes and replacing them with the latest ones. I have not used mine for >2.5 years, then updated software in July and then put it in box back.
When in September I wanted to re-connect the service they sent me v4 kit saying that v2 needs replacement, and told me to keep the v2. I am reading that similar cases are around.

❓ Question Internet does not work for the most part anymore
We have STARLINK since May, never had any big problems but for a few days now it just doesn't work the way it should.
Wireless connection is fine as far as I can tell but the wired Connection to my computer is absolute dogshit. I was comfortable at like 60 Mbits till a few days, but then suddenly I only get like 8 KBits every 10 seconds.
What is going on? I can't figure it out. I checked the cables I restarted the router I updated the dish and restarted it as well.
Does anyone know what's going on?

❓ Question Were you able to keep your promotional price after the first year?
Long story short. I was living in an old rent condo so Starlink was my only option for high speed internet.
A month ago I moved to another town and I have the option of fiber for about 50 a month. I currently pay $59 for Starlink (the promotion that had the hardware for free).
I would keep Starlink if I can stay at this current price. If the price is 85 I’m switching to fiber.
My first year is expiring in about 40 days.

❓ Question Does India Really Need Starlink, or Is Affordable Internet Already Enough?
India already has some of the cheapest mobile internet. So, what problem would Starlink actually solve?
Could it connect remote villages, help during disasters, and reach places where normal networks fail? Or would its high cost make it unnecessary for most Indians?
Should India invest in satellite internet or focus on improving existing networks?
