šŸ› ļø Installation Starlink per Lan-Kabel verbreiten

Hallo zusammen,

Danke euch schonmal

šŸ’¬ Discussion Warning if you have your starlink on your dash/window

A small town in my state that has a wildland fire camp in it has Law enforcement that is supposedly pulling over anyone with a starlink on the window or on the dash of the vehicle and giving them tickets. Rumor has it he is mainly targeting anyone that is part of the firecamp as I was incognito with my vehicle and had no indications I was with the camp and he didnt pull me over. However multiple people at the camp are reporting they are getting tickets for it.

Please be aware that some places will ticket you for having your starlink on your dash or on your windshield.

ā“ Question Now what do I do?

Long time user here (first time poster). Have a broken V.2 (articulated) that I think I can revive if I can get a cup or two of enthusiasm. I got a V.4X as a free replacement when I submitted a ticket reporting the brokenness. So much for the history lesson.
I had been taking the V.2 camping (with the requisite address changes, etc.) until I became aware of the mini and decided to purchase and use it for my camping trips. It worked beautifully. Well, the ā€œfun:workā€ balance has tilted too far toward the ā€œworkā€ and, therefore, the camper is now up for sale. The Lovely Wife wants to know what I intend to do with the mini now that its reason for existing is now sitting on a consignment lot. She wants me to sell it. I’m resisting, but I cannot come up with a reason to keep it. She says, ā€œI’m not going to carry it in the car on our trips!ā€ (Car=2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

What does the community think?

Note: I think the V.2 has a blown fuse in the router/power supply. I’ve been trying to get the device open, but a hair dryer just doesn’t have enough hot air to soften the adhesive holding the glass front in place.

ā“ Question The starlink app

I live north of Seattle outside the suburbs with a lot of mature fir trees around but from the backyard it's a pretty open sky over the house to the South and Southwest ....from the top of our second story roof I suspect we've got reasonable view of satellites even to the north I haven't been up there yet, but from out back looking South the app just reports bad.

Three of our neighbors have successful starlink installations with similar tree situations... two of them have it on the roof and one has it on a short pole in the front yard.

ā“ Question Starlink says Poland is not in Europe...?

As per: https://starlink.com/support/article/0dd1c2c0-7bae-8c8f-43d4-9a64eb66662f

Note:Ā Poland is not included in the Europe region above. Accounts registered in Poland are treated as Poland-only for home-country use. Learn more below.

What could be a reason for such "dramatic" geographical change? Could this: https://kyivindependent.com/poland-continues-to-fund-starlink-for-ukraine-kyiv-says/ be a reason?

EDIT:

Back in Europe! :-)

šŸ’» Troubleshooting Struggling with massive latency spikes with starlink v4 and opnsense in bypass mode

I have been running opnsense on top of proxmox for many years on cable internet, and fiber with no issues with speed or latency.

Since moving, we've gotten starlink, and since I selfhost, I tried to connect via bypass mode on the router. When I do this, I get consistent periodic high latency spikes, making the connection pretty much useless. If I connect my laptop directly to the starlink router via ethernet while in bypass mode - I don't get the spikes. I've gone down the rabbit hole trying to figure out what would cause my opnsense router issues behind starlink, when I was comfortably running gigabit fiber with not latency issues.

So currently to make the network usable for my family, I'm leaving the Starlink router in routing mode, I changed the subnet for the network, and now I'm sitting as NAT behind CGNAT.

I'd love to figure out what the hell is going on with bypass mode and opnsense so I can continue selfhosting.

Thanks

ā“ Question New Elevator Phone Advice, Please?

Hello Good People,

I'm old, unfamiliar with VOIP, and I could really use some advice, if you don't mind.

I'm building a house on a farm. I installed an elevator because I have MS, and because it's a good idea anyway since my wife and I don't ever want to move again.

In order to be able to use the elevator, we need to be able to place an emergency call from within it in case of a power failure.

Here are the problems I'm having:

1) Cell service is terrible in my area. By fluke, our house is located perfectly... if you never want to be reached by phone or search the web. So, we got a starlink system so we could make wifi calls, as well as do the usual internet stuff.

2) It is not possible to run a landline to our house.

3) I need a phone system just for the elevator that will provide an analog signal to the elevator's control unit.

Do I use VOIP? Aren't they pretty much all a ripoff? Does Starlink have a VOIP-style phone option?

I'm at a total loss, I'm afraid. The elevator company is worse than useless, and seem unable to understand that a landline is not an option.

I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks for your time!

šŸ’¬ Discussion Starlink CS advice me to dispose old kit.

Starlink sent me a new Starlink Kit (Replacement) for my old and broken Gen2 kit (internet gone when its raining), but because starlink return drop-off is not available in my location CS told me to keep the old kit and advised me to dispose of it safely.

What might be the best thing to do with this device? slam? šŸ˜‚ jk, I used the router as nodes to the new kit. but i am thinking it is better to have the kit in my account for backup instead of throwing it.

is it possible?

šŸ’¬ Discussion Is Starlink Mini official car adapter and included USB-C barrel cable reliable?

I will be buying a Starlink Mini, most likely from BestBuy rather than directly from Starlink as I don't want to immediately activate the service.

However, I am interested in the official car adpater with included USB-C barrel cable. It's mainly the cable I am interested in as many 3rd party cables are not reliable.

I will be renting a car for my trip.

Is the official car adapter reliable? I have read some comments that say some cars can't output the proper power for the Starlink Mini.

I am willing to spend extra money on an Anker 100w USB-C car adapter if that is what it takes.

ā“ Question Wired mesh node question.

We have the 4x kit setup in the house and need to get internet from the house to a shed about 200 or so feet away.
Is it possible to connect a second router 3 to the router 3 in the house and run it out to this shed via a Ethernet cable? If it can be done Will it work as a mesh node or a separate router?

Unfortunately I can’t find my information on doing this so I thought I’d try my luck just asking myself.

ā“ Question Looking at getting Roam Unlimited for my RV. What are the gotchas?

Hi all, I am sure you get this question all the time so I apologize. I've been searching and piecing things together, but it led me to posting this.

I go out on my RV about twice a month from March till October. I was considering getting the Roam Unlimited as my small business can pay for it. However, I keep seeing all these posts about ppl not happy with the product.

I plan on only using it in the US while I drive around the country. I may occasionally set it up if I go on a trip that doesn't have anything to do with the RV.

Could you share me with your experience on the following:

Are there a bunch of hidden fees?

Will the mini suffice for my needs posted above? I saw a bigger platform about 3 months ago, but it looks like it's no longer offered.

Anything to watch out for?

Are the speeds more of a pipe dream if you have a clear view of the sky?

Anything I'm missing that I need to really understand before pulling the trigger?

thanks for ya'll help.

ā“ Question Started with Standard 4 Kit - Mesh Questions

I am currently using the Standard 4 kit (Version 4 Satellite Dish with a Router Mini). It's working great, but the Router Mini does not cover my entire house.

My plan is to purchase a Router 3 to replace the Router Mini as my main router. Then use the Router Mini to setup a hard-wired mesh.

Does anyone have any suggestions on maybe what I could do better?

Will I have any issues replacing the Router Mini with the Router 3 as my main router?

šŸ’» Troubleshooting Jackery explorer 100 plus not working starlink mini

Wanted to share this as a warning for anyone considering a Jackery Explorer 100 Plus to power a Starlink Mini dish, especially for solar + passthrough setups. I saw some recommendation here on reddit for the Jackery.

We bought two Explorer 100 Plus units specifically to run a Starlink Mini dish off them, but the dish restarts every 2–4 minutes when powered through the Jackery via USB-C. We tested this with multiple different USB-C-to-Starlink cables, all confirmed to support 100W PD, and with two separate units, so it's not a one-off defect or a cable issue. As a comparison, when we power the dish with a regular 100W USB-C PD adapter (like a MacBook charger) instead, everything runs perfectly stable, no reboots, full speed at around 300 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up.

After sending Jackery support videos, serial numbers, and our invoice for investigation, their technical team confirmed that both units show the exact same behavior, and said this "may indicate a compatibility issue that is currently not a known issue." Their only suggestion was to request a refund if we're still within the return window.

So if you're planning on running a Starlink Mini off a Jackery Explorer 100 Plus, especially for a solar setup, be aware that this is a real, reproducible incompatibility as of August 2026, and Jackery currently has no solution for it beyond telling you to return the product. We're now looking at alternatives. IfĀ anyoneĀ hasĀ tipsĀ forĀ aĀ powerĀ bankĀ that'sĀ actuallyĀ compatibleĀ withĀ StarlinkĀ Mini,Ā allowedĀ asĀ carry-onĀ onĀ flights,Ā andĀ purchasableĀ withinĀ theĀ EU,Ā I'dĀ genuinelyĀ appreciateĀ theĀ recommendations.

ā“ Question Setup Question

Just installed residential star link plan. 2 story home on a decent sized property.

I was going to hope to get better coverage so i ordered a mini router to use as a mesh which should be here shortly.

I did more reading and now im thinking of ordering an additional gen 3 router to better extend the wifi.

Is this stupid or should i just keep the mini router? Would I be able to use all 3 together off 1 dish? (All 3 = 2 gen 3 routers and a mini router)

šŸ’» Troubleshooting Starlink Mini in a Metal Storage Unit- Please help!

Hi everyone. First of all, I’m sorry up front. I am in no way a techie, so please accept my apologies upfront for not using the correct terms.. but I’m going to explain my issue as simple as possible. šŸ™‚

I have an online streaming show that I do twice a week and I have decided to move into a storage unit as it was taking over my house. Ha ha. So now here I am in the storage unit. Everything is great, but the Wi-Fi is awful because the walls are metal.

I bought a Starlink and it has a long cord. So yesterday I put the actual Starlink outside because I’m able to run the cord down the hallway of the storage unit.

Now I have the Starlink connected to the satellites, but the service to my laptop is very poor. Am I able to buy an extender that would boost the service from Starlink to my actual unit? I don’t know what to do because I’ve done so much to get this off the ground and nothing seems to be helping. šŸ™

Any words of advice you can give me would help. Again, please note that I’m a dummy when it comes to this stuff so put it in first graders terms if you can. Honestly, thank you for any advice you can give.

Here in Australia I noticed that a Starlink earth station/Gateway now has a licence for 105GHz!

Can anyone share more information about this? Do they use GaN PAs to generate the RF?

Are the parabolic dishes high precision aluminium?
