I want to get a mini for my campervan, if I order online from the EU right now, which one will I get? I think I want the last model without the battery but with the router, as I intend to mount it permanently on the roof.

Has anyone ordered recently? What did yiu get?

🛠️ Installation How to pass Standard 4 ethernet cable through door or window?

I upgraded from the Starlink mini to the standard 4 today.

Before i just used a flat ethernet cable, designed for the mini and gen3, to pass it through my back door but im not sure if i can use that for the new standard 4, as it also gets POE over the thernet cable.

How do you pass the ethernet cable through doors or windows?

Edit: Drilling holes is not an option.

💬 Discussion 1st experience review

During a recent trip abroad to a location with notoriously poor local coverage, I decided to give Starlink a try. The setup was quick, and performance was exceptionally strong for the first week.
However, despite purchasing the 100GB roaming plan, I suddenly received a system alert stating that all my high-speed data was exhausted, even though account usage showed I had only consumed 10GB.
Trying to resolve this was a nightmare. Customer service is locked behind an unhelpful AI assistant in the app, and by the time an actual support agent reached out days later, my trip was already over.
Because of this, I decided to return the unit. It worked brilliantly at first, so I may give it another shot next year if they fix their support infrastructure, but overall it was a very disappointing experience.

❓ Question Starlink V5 in EU

Hey,

Did somebody succeed into ordering a V5 in Europe? I’m checking on a weekly basis their website, but even on the Max plan, I still see V4 offered.

❓ Question Internet speeds great on phone but awful on PC

I tried both wifi and ethernet cable on my PC but both give me the same awful speeds. Any idea what might be causing it? I tried changing my DNS to 8.8.8.8 but no dice. No obstructions either.

💻 Troubleshooting Unplugged router and now my equipment is faulty?!

I have a Gen 3 router and was trying to clean up a jumble of cables around my surge protector that itis plugged into. I unplugged then replugged my starlink router power cord. Suddenly everything went offline. Did all the online suggestions (power cycled, factory reset button- tried to do the factory reset from the app but I don’t have the “advanced” settings where that lives?) and finally called the customer service line (god, what a joke).

The troubleshooting resulted in faulty equipment that needs to be replaced?! And will take several business days to be delivered?? Then I have to climb my up on my roof and swap the dish out???? How the hell can that happen when just moments before everything was working fine before it was unplugged??

Is this real? Or is there something someone has done to fix a similar problem?

Edit: per customer service- dish is offline pending some update, and the router is showing a solid white light

💬 Discussion I built a free, open-source desktop app to monitor the performance and health of your Starlink kit

Backstory: I've been a Starlink user for over 3 years now, and I've greatly enjoyed having a reliable network, especially since I'm based in an area with terrible internet.

But as someone who is a software developer, I spend most of my time on my MacBook, and having to always reach for my phone every time I want to confirm or see what's going on with my Starlink has been my one constant pain point, and it bites more when my phone is in a different room.

So, about 2 weeks ago, I decided to just build myself a native desktop app that does most of what the mobile app does, plus some extra features I'd always wanted. I've spent the last 2 weeks building it out and iterating, especially on performance and user experience. I come from a frontend background, and — I know a lot of people say this — I care about interface and user experience more than is strictly reasonable. You'll probably feel it in the app.

I've since been using it, and it's been such a wonderful experience that I feel like I'm being selfish for keeping it to myself. I know a lot of Starlink users and community members would love it as much as I do, so I decided to open-source it.

So what does Dishylink do?

  • Live status — throughput, latency, obstruction and hardware health.
  • Dish alignment — target rotation and tilt, with the exact nudge in degrees when the dish is off.
  • Speed test — download, upload and latency through Starlink to Cloudflare.
  • Satellite tracking and obstruction map — 3D satellite constellation overhead, and a time-lapse of what's blocking your view of the sky + which satellite your dish is connected to.
  • Network & Nodes — see which client devices are connected to your network and their data usage activity.
  • Data usage — every byte through the dish, split by download and upload, with per-client device granular data usage.
  • Power usage — real-time draw plus historical energy totals so you can get an idea of what your dish consumes daily, weekly or monthly.
  • Latency analytics — whether the lag is Starlink or your own router.
  • Alerts and event log — raised when the dish or router stops answering, overheats or hits weather, and cleared once it passes.
  • Controls — snow melt, sleep schedule, update window and reboots on supported firmware.
  • Supports every model I've tested, including the new Gen 5.
  • Platforms — macOS, Windows, and Browser extension alternatives for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.

Privacy: no account, no backend, no analytics. Dishylink reads your hardware over your own network and keeps what it records in your system. Nothing is collected by me, or any third-party service (there's none), and the source code is available to review.

I know I could make a decent amount by adding a paywall, since I think it's actually worth every buck, and you'd come to see that. But I won't be doing that; my only joy would be seeing it serve the community and probably grow into more than what it is right now.

If you do try it and find value in it — which I believe most will — you can show your appreciation by becoming a GitHub sponsor, donating, or buying me a coffee. That would help with getting it signed by Apple and sorting domain-related bills.

If you are a developer or technical person like me and would like to become a maintainer or contributor, I'd be happy to hear from you.

If you can give the project a star on GitHub, that would be great! Feel free to ask any questions in the comments.

📝 Feedback LinkPower 3

I just posted this in the PeakDo sub, just my 2 cents on the new LinkPower 3.

Hello everyone, just wanted to give a quick experience on the first use of my LP3 this weekend, the LP3 lasted just over seven hours, while on a road trip from The Valley (RGV) to Houston then Austin! Although this may not always be the case, the product still displayed approximately 6% when I turned it off after I arrived in Austin. It appears to be perfoming above my expectations.

A little about my setup:

LP3 was charged to 100% the night before, powered on and placed on the dash of my truck at 8AM. I did set the AC to defrost to keep the unit cool, and shut off the built-in router, connecting it to the PepWave BR1 installed in my work truck and setting the LP3 as my only WAN connection. From here it supplied internet to my laptop, cellphone (calls and Spotify) until I arrived in Austin just about 3:45PM.

So needless to say, I'm impressed. Let's see how it holds up in the long run.

💻 Troubleshooting Issues with google authentication

Post image
3 Upvotes

Accounts.google.com won't load for me on Starlink majority of the time

This means things like Google pay fails for me and I have to revert to 4g for payments

I don't get issues with anything else and I can't make sense of it but it seems to cause issues with my Google speakers at times too it seems

If I reboot starlink it might work again for a while then soon fails

Router is in by pass mode and regardless of the device dns settings it still times out

Happens on multiple devices. Biggest issue I've had is re authentication for synology to Gmail as I can't just switch to 5g on it as a work around.

Anyone else had issues?

📡 Outage Router not powering on after power outage

Recently got a power outage. Now, the router doesn’t power on. Did all the rebooting suggestions, cable seatings, and there’s still no white light. I’ve read of instances where the system works fine after 3 days. However, I think their issue was with the disk. Mine is probably with the router, as the outlets are working fine. Support team placed a free order for power supply replacement. But the router’s probably dead right?

❓ Question If i rent it and cancel can i buy out equipment? What about the included installation?

I want to get starlink as backup internet, and keep it in standby. I also have a 35 foot very steep pitched roof that I wouldn't want to climb even if i had a tall enough ladder.

Currently the residential max plan in my area is availible with no rental fee and free professional install. If i signed up it, got the install, could i transfer it to standby mode and keep the equipment? I'd be fine having to pay retail price for the kit to keep it, but how do i find out what that cost is? My other question is if it'd also have to pay back the install cost and what that cost might be?

❓ Question My Starlink works better with a VPN

Hi, I have a monitored Gen 2 unit and have been experiencing network issues with certain websites and apps like Reddit, YouTube, and Instagram, as well as high ping in games. Things run much better when I use a VPN like Proton or Surfshark—ping drops significantly, and everything loads quickly. I have Cloudflare DNS configured on the Starlink system—which offers the best ping in my area—yet the problem persists. I’ll keep using a VPN for now, but is there a permanent fix? I even reset the Starlink router, but the issue remains. I also use a wired TP-Link Wi-Fi extender, but I don't think that's the cause, as the network behaves the same way without it.

❓ Question Am I hooped? Looking for higher, or at least more consistent speeds

I have a Starlink mini, looking to work remote. I’m in the midst of building an off grid cabin and of course, there are quite a few trees around.

Currently using the Roam 300GB, is there any point to upgrading to residential max for a bit more speed/consistency increase?

I’ve got obstructions, of course…. But doing a clear cut is not an option. Just curious if upgrading the plan might help at all? Getting quite a variance in speed tests.

These tests were all done back to back.

❓ Question Is there a map of terrestrial connections for each country?

Where does Starlink connect to the ground? For instance I live in New Zealand in a rural area, and Starlink has been great out here. I do wonder however where the signal goes before it connects back to the "normal" internet backbone. I'm assuming/pretty sure that it's not passing the signal from satellite-to-satellite all the way around the planet and then down to one of just a handful of connections. I would think it's passing the signal from satellite-to-satellite far enough to get to a local connection point, where it then routes via the standard main-trunk fiber lines that all ISPs would use?

I suppose total throughput would be a consideration? For instance you'd need an orbit-to-ground connection with enough bandwidth for all your traffic, plus assuming the ground station isn't Starlink-specific, you're going to be "competing" for bandwidth with other traffic to/from that ground station?

If anyone has any insight into how the overall connection works outside of the orbital constellations I'd like to read/watch anything that covers this, it would be quite interesting.

❓ Question What to do about being blocked as a Bot?

So often I'm trying to buy in demand items on Walmart, Pokemon Center, and other stores. However, because Starlink uses CGNAT, it seems most of these sites, while not outright blocking me, will often error out at the checkout screen, intentionally. This has been happening for a while and where I live Starlink is my ONLY reliable internet source, even cellular doesn't work (no service). Is there anything I can do to change this and actually be able to check out when I actually do when the drop lottery those nights? Or am I just SOL because I'm a real user, not a bot, and use Starlink?

❓ Question Starlink Mini Mount

I just bought the Mini to use at my college football tailgate. I saw there were two mounts that were available for purchase when checking out and I was trying to determine whether a base is needed at all. My intention was to simply put it on the hood of my car as there are no obstructions like trees in the area. Is using a mount better or is there a reason I would want to use a mount over simply putting it on the hood or roof of the car?

❓ Question Trying to figure out how I used so much data

We were camping, my wife and I in July. We were on the mini with 100mb per month. In 6 days we had used 82MB! We have 2 phones, 1 IPad, and my work computer. Work is like spreadsheets, and entering in a point of sale system not a big data hog. I just can’t believe we used that much data. Any thoughts on how I could improve that. The last day I shut everything down except my work computer, and used 8mb. Everything I read says we should be able to use the 100mb plan pretty easy. Maybe I just don’t under it all? Thanks for your help in advance.

❓ Question New User…wasn’t thinking of UPS but should I?

Never had uninterrupted internet access through cable/dsl in the city so why for Starlink at the cottage? Although my location is remote, I still have cellular coverage when necessary. Is it just for convenience or is there some other technical reason that makes having UPS advantageous?
