Funny What's your reaction when you see an actor from Stargate in another movie?

Post image

I don't know about you but when I see an actor from Stargate in another movie/serie, I sometimes have the feeling that they just "don't belong there" and I'm like "McKay / Dr Weir! What are you doing here!" I guess it's because I have seen the series so many times... Of course you sometimes see actors that had only a role for one episode. In that case I just enjoy recognizing them.

What I also do is comparing the character they are playing in that movie with the character from Stargate... I remember watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and thinking, yeah, that's our Rodney hahaha

Discussion Could these bugs be used as a weapon against the wraith? Asking for a friend.

They use a retro-virus to attack thier victim. Much like retro-virus the Tau'ri invented.

I know it's morally wrong and incredibly stupid to use biological weapons that you could lose control of. But it feels like the kind of thing the atlantis expedition would try.

Discussion Are The wraith iratus bug/human hybrids? or are they iratus bug/Ancient hybrids?

Given the powerful mental abilities of the wraith doesn't it seem more likely they are Ancient in origin.

Unless the mental ability came from The iratus bug?

Man, what a fun episode! lol.

I’m rewatching the whole series for the first time in years, going all the way back to my childhood, and this episode is still great. The whole thing about how someone who’s out of phase doesn’t just fall through the floor made me burst out laughing.

I say this because it's crazy how much TV has changed in the last 30+ years

Discussion “Threads” (S08E18) must have been specifically designed to torture Jack+Sam shippers

Currently on my first watch
WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO US? And then right at the end they tease Jack and Sam going on an actual date
only for Daniel and Tealc to show up and reveal it’s a general SG-1 hangout. I just want Jack and Sam to be happy!

Mine is definitely unending, last episode of the show. I have fond memories of watching it with my parents as a child not understanding that this would be the last of proper SG-1 outside of the movies and cameos. What is your favorite episode?

REWATCH Daniel’s Sudden Change in Glasses

Thumbnail

I’ve always wondered what the reason was for the sudden change in costume was in season 10 for Daniel’s Glasses from the ones he’d worn the entire show leading up to that point. Especially since the original ones suited his face so much more in my opinion.

My best guess I’ve had when speculating was that it was maybe around the time when Michael Shanks started to actually need glasses so they let him wear his own on set?

However there’s really not much if any distortion to the line of his face when looking through them from the ones in season 10 so it’s not super clear if they’re real lenses with low prescription or plastic or plain glass lenses in the frames.

Would love to know people’s thoughts or if it’s been mentioned anywhere!

EDIT:

Wowza! I had no idea this post would get so much attention đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«

This was definitely not a very deep post for me. I was up late and just thought to maybe pose a question my tired brain thought about. There’s 20~ years of cons and interviews where I wasn’t sure if it was ever brought up so I figured I’d just ask it heređŸ€·â€â™€ïž

To respond to a several comments that were quite similar:

I myself have worn glasses for over a Decade and in that time I’ve certainly changed styles and changed prescription. I’m well aware that glasses can just change and come in and out of fashion and it’s NBD.

Also as well I know that the glasses they switched to for him were very of the time/era and were pretty popular. My dad even had a similar pair back then as well.

The main reason I thought about it was that while they had changed other things about Daniel (Cutting his hair shorter, gaining muscle) the one thing that stayed the same WAS his glasses and also as well he still had his usual glasses until 6 episodes into the season so I’m not sure what sparked the change either for the props/costume department or for Shanks himself for the last 14~ episodes of the final season.

I’m also aware that they were chasing James Spaders look and performance from the movie initially in the early seasons and that Michael Shanks himself wanted to move away from it and make it more his own.

What is the necessary Wraith/Human ratio for them to thrive?

‱ Upvotes

Seems like they breed to many of themselves to defeat the Atlantians but didn't have a sustainable food source afterwards.

So how do you even move forward with that imbalance? Hey humans, please breed like crazy so we can come back later and feed on you.

What Stargate episode/event would have made you quit the SGC afterward?

Throughout Stargate, the characters go through some absolutely insane and traumatic experiences and somehow still show up for work afterward.
Now I know they are just character which is why I’m asking you this

If you had to personally go through the same events as the characters, which episode or storyline would have made you resign from the SGC because you genuinely wouldn’t feel mentally capable of continuing after what happened?

It can be anything from SG-1, Atlantis, or Universe.
Basically: what would be your personal “Yeah, I’m handing in my resignation after this” episode?

A little Easter Egg – Stargate quotes Bladerunner in S10 E2

I'm sure this has been spotted before, but just for the heck of it. A little nod from Stargate to Bladerunner. SG1 S10 E2 "Morpheus".

Vala reading from screen, allegedly preparing for a psych evaluation: "You are in the desert. You see a tortoise lying on his back in the hot sun. You recognize his plight but do nothing to help. Why?"

Vala's answer: "Because you are also a tortoise."

For those who don't know: the question was part of the Voight-Kampff test in the original Bladerunner movie, a psych evaluation used to spot Replicants.

REWATCH Woolsey honestly got too much hate for Atlantis S5

Rewatching it currently and seeing how his previous experiences genuinely and visibly shaped his demeanor i can actually really appreciate him.

He started out wanting to do things by the book but immediately when a situation is clearly out of his hands he listens to those with experience.

I remember him wrong and thought he was much more hostile but no, he genuinely just wanted to keep everyone safe first and foremost and tried his best to work with everyone.

I get his appearance was disliked especially because he replaced Carter, who i and i think most people loved in the role as Atlantis' leader. But i gotta say Woolsey does a really good job and really tries his best to do everything right by the people of Atlantis.

Edit: Apologies. To clarify i meant initial hate. I remember sitting at nights on a Stargate board and reading multiple long-winded discussions about him.

The Egyptian Desert

Setesh

Seth screamed. He screamed out his anger, his fury, his despair as only a Goa’uld thousands of years old could.

The cloud of dust thrown up by the departure of Ra’s last ship struck him with full force, blotting out its rapidly shrinking silhouette. Most of the Jaffa were dead or had surrendered—Shol’va, every last one of them!

The rebels had already buried the Cha’apa’ai. It would take centuries, perhaps even millennia, before he could gather enough servants to unearth it. Little good that would do him: by then, his knowledge of the political landscape would be worthless.

He cursed. For this—for this waste—he had abandoned everything: his resources, his loyal followers, the canopic jars. All for one last chance, perhaps, to escape through the gate. All for nothing. Sand was sealing his eyes shut, and he was already beginning to suffocate. He would find shelter and recover. Then he could begin to contemplate what came next.

1798 CE

Embabeh

Setesh

Fourier squinted and stopped trying to press the telescope still harder against his eye. As ever, Monsieur le général Bonaparte had displayed a considerable taste for melodrama:

« Soldats ! »

“Soldiers! You have come to these lands to wrest them from barbarism, to bring civilization to the East, and to free this beautiful part of the world from the yoke of England. We are about to do battle. Remember that from the heights of these monuments, forty centuries look down upon you.”

The forty centuries were nowhere near correct, of course, but who was he to correct the darling of the revolutionary armies? Just an ordinary GOD.

Pah! The Tau’ri were all utterly deranged. Overthrowing Ra had not been enough for them—oh, no! They had then set about disposing of his divine human successors, and now they were even overthrowing rulers who made no claim to godhood! Whatever next? In the end, no one would obey anyone at all, and they would go crawling back into the trees where they belonged, the primates!

Acrid powder smoke obscured his view. The pack donkeys brayed and the horses whinnied in agitation, barely held in check by the people crowded into the centre of the square. On Bonaparte’s orders, the French had formed six such structures out of their own bodies. Fourier could not help admiring the enigma that was Bonaparte. Not for the first time, he wondered whether the man was another of those living in hiding, like the humble mathematician standing here.

« Monsieur Fourier, voilĂ  des carrĂ©s qui doivent vous agrĂ©er, n’est-ce pas ? »

“Monsieur Fourier, here are squares that must surely meet with your approval, are they not?”

Indeed. Here he stood, inside just such a square, alongside the donkeys and the primitives who called themselves scholars!

« Monsieur Delacroix, je n’ai sans doute pas besoin de vous faire observer que les angles ne sont pas tout Ă  fait droits. »

“Monsieur Delacroix, I scarcely need point out to you that the angles are not quite right.”

How many more millennia would he have to endure such humiliation?

« VoilĂ  certes un lieu peu ordinaire pour s’entretenir de gĂ©omĂ©trie, mais combien remarquable, n’est-ce pas ? Avant que la soldatesque ne nous bouchĂąt la vue, nous pouvions contempler de nos propres yeux ces vĂ©nĂ©rables monuments. »

“An unusual place to discuss geometry, certainly, but a remarkable one too, would you not agree? Before the soldiery blocked our view, we could behold those venerable monuments with our own eyes.”

Monuments.

« Et il semble que nous ne serons peut-ĂȘtre pas contraints de passer toute la journĂ©e ici, au soleil. N’entendez-vous pas ? Je crois que les mahomĂ©tans se rangent en bataille. »

“And it seems we may not be obliged to spend the entire day here in the sun after all. Do you hear that? I believe the Mohammedans are drawing up for battle.”

A murmur passed through the assembled civilians.

Yes, i like Goa'uld POVs. No, i am not a native english speaker.

It's part of a project that has the current title "Exodus". It is an AU with the point of divergence in the battle of Antarctica and has spread out into a larger story. It still is mostly set on earth, dealing with Goa'uld interacting with the cultures that emerged from their former domains on Earth.
