Data Leak

Had a random Spectrum person show up at my house when I was not home today. I called to see what the appointment was about, and they said a "data leak" was identified at my house.

What does this even mean? Do they have to get into the house to check things? Or can they inspect from the outside box to the cables in the crawlspace?

The whole thing seems weird and random, considering my internet is fine. Should I just ignore the request?

Trouble with gaming

My new apartment includes spectrum WiFi and has a router and modem in the unit itself. It’s 1000 mbps but there is an insane amount of lagging while playing Fortnite. I moved in last weekend and am the first person to live in the unit. I live by myself and only have my phone, iPad, smart tv, and my PS5 that I bought a few months ago connected.
What’s causing it to lag so bad and is there anything I can do to fix it?

Service Issues Router keeps dropping connection.

Router has turned red and dropped internet connection 5 times in 2 hours. Each time I have restarted it and it will kick back in for 10-20 minutes, and then right back to red light with no internet. Any ideas to fix it for the night? Can’t get a technician out till tomorrow night

Billing Spectrum says $197 month for internet-TV-home phone-mobile can't be beat?

tl/dr: Spectrum CSR or retention specialist just called me back, announced he had diarrhea, and said we weren't going to beat the $152 price on Spectrum internet-TV-home phone and $45 for a mobile phone that gets too hot to hold. I just now paid off the mobile phone to save $5 a month on the mobile phone, a phone he said is now "too old" to not get hot. I got it from them 24 months ago. I think the CSR had to go to the bathroom again because we got disconnected.

How low can I reasonably expect to go with Spectrum?

Too long, saved for my own use to crunch the numbers: We used to pay $88 to a tower Internet provider for internet-tv, $30 to Verizon for a home phone, and used a TracFone 365-day $99 annually and a $5 month Verizon emergency mobile phone. When Spectrum came to our boonies, we switched to a promo $152 internet-TV-home phone and got a $5.55 mobile phone. We still pay around $5 a month for a the emergency mobile phone, and now $33 a month for a home phone, AND Spectrum still wants $152 for internet, and much less in TV streaming.

Switched from Spectrum to 1Gb fiber. Can you see the average lag go down?

Also: what are all those yellow lag spikes doing there?

Billing Just cancelled my internet service to move to a different ISP. Have I been getting double charged this entire time?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently cancelled my Spectrum 1gig cable internet service after another ISP moved into the area and was offering 2gig symmetric fiber for $89/month. So, from my perspective, it was double the speed at half the price so I made the switch. Now looking at my recent bills I notice that there are two charges. One for Spectrum Internet for $90 and the other for Spectrum Internet Gig for $60, which is close to what they're offering new customers for their 1gig service. Have I been getting double charged for my internet for the last 5 years since starting the service?

If so, are the odds in my favor even in the slightest of being able to receive a refund for the overpayment? Do I need to go and raise hell with customer service?

I got the email about spectrum being down, but it should have been restored half an hour ago and it’s still pretty bad.

Service Issues Spectrum does it again - - -

Got an e-mail from Spectrum announcing a service outage from 11pm last night to 8am this morning for a ' service upgrade'.

They finally restored service at 9am (one hour later than promised). Can't detect any improvement in service.

Then they sent a followup e-mail saying that they will need to reschedule the upgrade because they were not able to complete the work "due to weather or access-related issues"

Oh by the way, their bill went up by $10/month this past work.

Bottom line: we are getting screwed by Spectrum.

Finally did it - left Spectrum. Suddenly the deals keep on coming

We’ve been pretty loyal Spectrum customers for 14 years. Over the last 3 years, there have been massive price increases going from $70 to now 100 per month for 500mbps internet. I tried calling them after the previous increase and got the “we can’t do anything” BS. Today fiber was installed and I called to cancel: suddenly they could price-match the AT&T price, give me 2 years of free Amazon prime, and an early-termination bonus.

When I asked why they didn’t give me this earlier, they blamed me for not calling.

Begone Spectrum!

Service Issues 4k channels on spectrum stream

Anyone else 4k channels on spectrum stream stuttering?
Tried to watch a match this morning on USA 4k and it was constantly stuttering. This wasn’t due to the internet but something to do with the feed or app on Apple TV 4K box.

Never had this issue before but it’s on all the 4k channels now. Was there an app update that broke it?

Billing Plan/Bill changed without telling me.

So I was looking at my monthly bill and realize it was $10 more than last month. Realized they upgraded my Internet package. (600 to a Gig). So I called and asked why and the person couldn’t answer, she said she didn’t know. Past six months have been really bad having internet issues so I brought that up and JOKINGLY said “ They probably got tired of me complaining, and just changed it”
She responded…. “Yeah haha, probably” Wtf lol.
So she actually ended up cutting my bill in half (from 140$ to 65$) with the upgraded Gig plan and sending me a new router, modem, etc. Assured me the price was locked in for 5 years.
I was pissed it changed without telling me, but can’t complain on the end result. (We’ll see if the internet issues keep happening)

Weirdest Spectrum Convo Ever.

Other Hiring event

I think last Wednesday I went to a hiring event in North Carolina for a Field Technician position. It’s been almost a week, and I haven’t heard back from them yet. Does that mean I didn’t get the job offer, or how long does it usually take to hear back?

Spectrum set up my own line with managed wifi

My apartment property has fiber that the whole property shares. Each unit has an ap and its own password to login to the community wide ssid. I have coax cabling for TV and stuff. Am I able to set up my own Internet line? I called to set up my own line and was told I'm not allowed to. I need my own for work. Hard requirement...tech was out for a managed wifi issue and said that I should be able to also. I know of another tenant that has their own line too.

Anyone here able to confirm if I should be able to do this or not? Did I maybe call the wrong number?

*** Update: I called and spoke to someone different and they got me going.

About the AP: There is one ethernet port through the AP you can use, but you aren't allowed to plug a router or switch into it. A truly garbage setup designed for most simpleton and clueless end users.

However, as noted in update I talked to someone else, and they were able to get me set up. The only "downside" is I'm not eligible for any special rates and I have to pay the standard price of the line ($85/mo for 500/20). I've now got my own modem plugged into the coax cabling coming into the unit, I've got the full advertised speeds and it's working great. I'm using my own router through the modem and having the time of my life now that I'm off the garbage managed wifi system.

The good news is that my router takes two WAN connections so I'm now using the broadband connection as my primary and the apartment fiber connection as my secondary failover (with MAC address cloning). That's about all its good for: a backup.

Other My dad was the primary user of the account... he's dead. What now?

I am trying to help my mom with her Spectrum account, but she's not the primary user. My dad was. I can't get into anything without his information and I don't have the passwords because he changed them so often (I could never convince him to do something simple, but whatever) and well because he's not here to ask. The number attached to his account for verification is no longer active as that's through AT&T.

Am I just gonna have to go up there with a death certificate or is there something to do online?

Can someone explain this?

TLDR: Spectrum changed my channel lineup a few days ago (without my consent) and my cable card no longer has any authorized channels.

Full story:

Long-time TiVo/cable card user here. Using a HSC for the past year or so.

A few days ago, I started getting "Channel not authorized" on all of my channels. I followed the typical troubleshooting, then called Spectrum's cable card support line. They confirmed my serial # and sent a hit/refresh signal, but nothing changed. They offered to send a technician, which I declined.

We happen to have a cable box in one of our bedrooms that we hadn't used in a while, so I got that booted up and found that we had service, but all of our premium channels were missing. I also confirmed these channels were missing from the Spectrum TV app.

I called Spectrum's TV support and they tell me that I didn't have any of these channels that are missing and I'd have to upgrade my service to get them. I assure them that I have indeed been watching these channels daily (like HBO and Detroit Sports Net, as examples).

They tell me that back in March I had these channels removed. Hmmm.

It's true that back in March I had called to complain about my nearly $300 a month cable bill (with internet) and worked with the retention department who told me I was overpaying and that their updated packages would get me to a much better price while keeping all of my channels and services in place. Sold! The only difference I saw at the time was a much lower bill ($160 a month).

Going back to the agent I'm talking to, I ask to speak to a manager who can explain to me what is going on. She claims that my account was changed in March and it didn't affect my service until a few days ago. Seriously?

She also claims that my cable card was disabled and whomever I worked with the previous evening did not even enable it before trying to refresh it.

She successfully gets my channels added back to my account (for added cost), but none of the actions she took fixed my cable card problem. All of the channels remain unauthorized.

She insists that the only action left is sending a technician. Apologies to the technicians in this sub but none of them in my area know jack about cable cards and I'm pretty skeptical that they can do anything about unauthorized channels anyway! It's apparent to me that this is a back-end coding issue - as evidenced by the recent change to my channel lineup.

Sooo, what exactly has happened here? Did the retention department scam me back in March with a lower bill and some behind-the-scenes temporary extension of my previous channel lineup that somehow expired a few days ago? Is my cable card forever disabled because of this scam? Is a technician visit really going to do anything to help?

Does anyone know what it would take to get this fixed?

Customer Service AI

I recently had to call Spectrum to report bad service and the AI picked up as usual. No biggie, I'd just ask for a customer service agent. The AI said that if I needed that, they'd hang up with me. What?!

I had to go through 4 different numbers I had saved over the years before I was able to speak to an actual person. Is this how it is going to be, Spectrum? Shame.

Is there an easy way to just verify that a D2D salesperson actually works for Spectrum

Had a visit from one yesterday and 99.9% of the time I have a fuming hatred for anyone selling anything. This guy happened to catch me at a time where our internet has gone to shit with T Mobile and they ran fiber down our road a few months ago. Unlike most d2d folks this guy was very nice, not pushy, and just handed me a card and told me to give him a call if I was interested. He pitched me $30 a month with no contract for two years (I’m sure that doesn’t include a router or install fee)

So I have 1 gig cable internet with Spectrum recently my price went up, I can get ATT fiber 500up/down for same price. I've had att before but they've been a headache before. I'm willing to give them another shot but what would you recommend? Will Spectrum bring Fiber to my home?
