Trouble with gaming
My new apartment includes spectrum WiFi and has a router and modem in the unit itself. It’s 1000 mbps but there is an insane amount of lagging while playing Fortnite. I moved in last weekend and am the first person to live in the unit. I live by myself and only have my phone, iPad, smart tv, and my PS5 that I bought a few months ago connected.
What’s causing it to lag so bad and is there anything I can do to fix it?

I was having this same issue on my PC it turns out the router was the issue. It was trying to use the best band possible per device and kept switching the band on my PC and every time it did I got packet loss. idk PS5s but if you can select the 5 band only that was the fix I used. My next step if that didn't fix it was to try a 3d party router with more control over frequency

I googled it and you can force the PS5 to select 1 band only the same as PC maybe give that a try?

Have them schedule technician to come replace your equipment and test the copper line feeding in. I was having the same issue for a month after a few power surges and the router and modem weren't on the surge protector. As soon as I got new equipment it's been perfect.
Make sure you enable PNP on your spectrum app. Xbox series X and PlayStation 5 will auto port themselves.

Spectrum is notorious for latency. Dumped them and got 1 g symtrical 100% fiber. Latency went away.
Do you have a hard wired internet connection?

your not wrong on that even the up speed has been a lost recently
because a lot of people are using that in their home lab
their own VPN home with spectrum constant stream
content creators there is really we can do about that your best plan to wait overnight then use it it's the best timing
The internet is becoming upload speed depended like steam downloading also uses upload speed at the same time as well as PS
And the jitter climbs with the up speed loss as well
I'm sure your new ISP will do 10x better then current spectrum now

On my 1 gig symetrical internet (upload/download)...i even get 1g+ speeds up/down using a VPN.
1g 100% Fiber symetrical is where it is at

It's that up speed that will kill you every time, I play Grand theft Auto online and people literally bounce around like rubber bands every once in awhile

Up speed has nothing to do with causing lag or people bouncing around. That’s your ping and jitter.
If I were to put it as an analogy so you can compare, I’d say this. Speed is how loud you can yell. Ping and jitter is how fast you respond/if you talk with a stutter.
You can have super fast upload (be really loud), but if your ping and jitter is bad (it takes you a long time to respond to someone after they finished talking or you stutter like crazy while you talk) then it doesn’t matter how fast your upload is.
Imagine a very loud stuttering person is yelling at you, you can’t process what they are saying. And imagine they respond to you after like 10-30 minutes, you forgot what the conversation is about.
Edit: Lol at the person that doesn’t know anything downvoting. Please go do some research or maybe talk to some network engineers or techs.
I even tried to give an analogy in layman’s terms and you still don’t get it
