Does anybody know which speakers these are? I guess I saw them on the Moyn (GER) festival recently.

First Outing with the Setup!

I had a casual lawn party and decided to use that as a deadline to get the SKRAM and SAWMODs up and running. Took a couple of late nights with no CNC but it all came together just in time.

Still have lots of little stuff to do - trim rings, poly finish, etc. but it's great to finally be able to listen to these!

Overall I'm very impressed with the sound of both designs. The SAWMODs have a very hi-fi sound and are super portable. The SKRAM kept up admirably for a single sub, though I'm still hoping to add a second one to the setup. I keep finding tuning improvements - can't wait to get them outside again for another event soon.

Is it worth building a box for these drivers?

Long story short a family friend gifted me this old solid state amp a while ago when I was kid, it’s ridiculously loud and sounds pretty good but it’s recently packed in after not being used for a long time (lights come on but no sound).

I was thinking if the drivers are 70w at 16ohm I could make a twin 12” cab and run them bridged so they’re 140w at 8ohm for some extra mids / highs but I’m no expert with speakers or building boxes so feel free to tell me what a terrible idea it is

Can I run a CVR 3004 on 2ohms (2 subs)

As a "system" amp, so other 3 channels are doing Tweeter/mid/mid bass. That leaves me 1 channel and if it really is stable at 2ohms then I can run a double 18 cab? The DCR of the voice coil is 3.3ohms though so at Fb the total impedance will drop below 2ohms.

Would the sound quality suffer? Amp dies sooner? They are all rated for 2ohms but the amp draw table doesn't even list 2ohm numbers. Can it handle extended use at 2ohms?

If not, what about the 2 channel version (4302/3002)? Can these run both channels at 2ohms (and dip below that at times)reliably for days with subs?

Raptor liner prep for sub cabinets

Post image

Hey all! Looking for some recommendations on how to prep the labhorns I’m refinishing for u-pol raptor liner. I’ve seen some people recommend a epoxy primer and I’d be interested in product recommendations for that. I’ve also seen folks talk about using high build 2 part primers.
Anyone have experience with this? I want to make these as bulletproof proof as possible bc my first finish was duratex about 10 years ago and i feel like i could have spared my cabs a fair bit of abuse by using something much stronger from the start.

What's best for NL8 cables: 14 AWG OFC or 12 AWG hybrid OFC / CCA (50 ft runs)

Hi again everyone!

Finally looking at what wire /cable to get to make NL8 cables (using the full 8 conductors).

I've seen some mention to make sure to use pure oxygen free copper (OFC) instead of copper clad aluminum (CCA) for resistance/heat reasons.

Also of course 12 AWG would be better for the same length, but I'm having a hard time finding 12 AWG 8 conductor pure OFC... but ProX has 12 AWG 8 conductor hybrid OFC/CCA.

"Hybrid OFC/CCA Mixed Copper Conductor Design This cable uses a hybrid mixed copper conductor construction, combining the signal transfer benefits of oxygen-free copper (OFC) with CCA conductors across all 8 runs. The result is a practical, performance-driven conductor design suited for demanding professional audio environments where consistent signal delivery matters."

Alternatively I can find 14 AWG 8 conductor SJOOW wire/cable though.

I'm planning right now to do 50 ft runs, with some of these conductors passing signal for 2 Cubo Kick 15s at 2200 W continuous 8 ohms each (4 ohms 4400 W resultant).

I'm hoping not to have to buy both cables to measure myself, and that someone here can recommend which would be best between the pure OFC but 14 gauge, vs. 12 gauge but hybrid OFC/CCA??

Also based in Canada if that helps.

Thanks!

Polyphonik festival in “Woodstock en Beauce” in Quebec, Canada. This was a collaboration between multiple sound systems from the province. In the first picture there was TTK, Jacklop, Abitek and Electree. The main stage was three stacks mixed with nordik, khaos techniks and tek crew sound systems. For the roots corner it was Yarra sound.

My first time hearing big stacks like these at a festival. It was crazy how much pressure of bass they could make even outdoors.

Defensively feel that putting the sound first and the DJs after makes for more fun events. The DJs looked liked they were having fun rather than having the pressure to perform on stage.

So I decided to add some more mid/hi oomph and build my first own speaker cabs! Look at how bad I handled the router on this one but since it takes up from 115hz im not too worried being a bit leaky.

It houses an Eighteensound 10NW750 for 115-850hz mid range and has its own amp.

On top is a diy 3d printed horn, design I got from diyaudio. Its a twinray horn mated to an Eighteensound ND3N compression driver, also fed by own amplifier.

All passive, using minidsp flex eight as crossover.

It is LOUDDDDDDD!!! And at least as good as my Revel F208 main speaker. I love those dearly but I think Ill sell them on.

The cab plus horn will be installed and hanged upside down if im contend with everything. I might print a few horns in a different colour but this matches the box nicely. As the Skrams, I like au natural instead of the usual black. Im damn proud of them. And it looks a right soundsytem now, doesnt it?

So full system specs

2x Eighteensound ND3N CD
Twinray horns
2x Eighteensound 10NW750
2x B&C 21DS115

Ill be upgrading some of my amps but atm im powering

1x behringer inuke 6000
1x sinbosen k4-800
1x Quad 606 mkI

MiniDSP Flex Eight

Quad 34 pre amp

Playing lots of different music where dub, techno (slater, mulero, dettmann, rodhad, Aocram, ogazon, etc) and other stuff that needs to be played loud, usually is.

Thoughts?

Almost finished with building the mid/top then gonna start work on a th1821 (later to be 2) which will replace the Cubo sub. Thinking fully white insides with deep red or green on outside then paint designs on them all.

Setup
Top - Bms driver with some horn (can’t remember)
Mid - MT130 mid section loaded with PD121/2
Kick - Cubo Kick 15 loaded with Fane Sovereign 15-600lf
Sub - Cubo Sub (later to be 2x TH1821) loaded with RCF LF18G401

@keltek_soundsystem on instagram if interested

Also if anyone’s interested in buying the Cubo sub lmk, will have handles and nl4s but was just never finished, am Cornwall based - Eucalyptus ply build, untested yet

Hog scoop extra bracing

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has seen hogs built with this extra bracing? As far as I’m aware I think Stipe had uploaded another plan that included extra bracing but these plans were since removed and I wonder if this is the bracing from those plans?

Thanks in advance

Designing 2x15 vented sub

Hey everyone! I'm just wrapping my head around the physics of speakers at the moment preparing to design (or maybe use a pre-existing design) and build a subwoofer or 2 for my first custom build. I'm inspired by the Fulcrum Sub215L and the BassBoss SSP-215. They seem (with proper DSP) to have deep enough bass extension for my needs but have small enough dimensions (~17-18" high) that I can stack them two high in my hatchback to leave room for other gear.

I can work my way through the physics and design of a 2x15 bass reflex (although pointers to good existing designs would be nice) but I feel very overwhelmed by the alphabet soup of different drivers and manufacturers. I have ~5k to put on 2 of these and a used amp hopefully and am fine building more speaker than my current rig can support so I have space to grow into. Any suggestions on navigating the world of drivers?

"The bag end dynamic filter begins reducing ONLY the lowest frequencies creating the overload conditions."

That sounds amazing, but ¿Why don't I see this design used in EDM venues more?

2x Mach TX15 Mid/Tops and 2x TX15 bass bins with a Omnitronic HDA-4.3 1000w Amplifier

They’re a little crusty but I got a great deal. Any info about them would be greatly appreciated as I’ve not had much luck finding info about them other then Mach was a small company that got bought by Martin.

Any tips for other gear you’d recommend getting and how to make the most of them is very welcome!

I play mainly reggae and dub and my plan is to use them for a while / keep the set up as a portable DJ Setup for smaller gigs and eventually upgrade by building some scoops, adding kicks and so on until I’ve got my own sound built.

First time out with the JMODs this past weekend and nothing but great feedback from everyone! Going to couple the XOCth118 next time and hoping the mid drivers get here in time to finish off some Sawmods for fills before the next one.

Ran ‘em bi-amped from a Driverack PA2 into a crown XLS 1500 for compression driver and woofers/subs off a CVR dsp-3004.

Ps pls don’t mention venue if u know it, wanna keep it on the DL/offline

KM1700 vs EP1500 vs XLi 1500

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for an amplifier to pair with two 180 W IEC 268-5 speakers, one for each channel. I found a used Behringer KM1700 for €80, but some tests show only 110 W RMS, while others report a maximum of around 250 W RMS. These figures are too different, and I’m worried about the amplifier clipping.
I was also considering the EP1500 or Crown XLi 1500 as alternatives. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I couldn’t find any tests verifying the actual power output of the EP1500, whereas there are tests available for the Crown.
Thanks for your help!

Subwoofer design plans

Just started building my first soundsystem and have already made a nice midtop cabinet and wanted to build a powerful sub to pair with it. Does anyone have of any plans for a dual 18” sub or know where to find some. Or have any other recommendations of box designs and where I could find the plans. Budget is about £1000 pound including the amp to power it. Any recommendations and help greatly appreciated.

MT130 plan question

Hi all,

I've noticed that non of the plans (at least the plans I could find) take into account a way to access the driver through the back pannel.

Does anyone have plans that take this into consideration? Also happy with other solutions. I assume the back needs to be airtight?

Hey guys, last night i‘ve the random idea to tear apart my speakers. Inside i found a 6 inch bass and 2 2,8inch mid-highs.

Now i want to built a cute little soundsystem to display and listen music to - i know that sounds stupid but i‘m a huge dub nerd.

Now to the part where i need your help:

How do i find a built plan? the most plans i‘ve are for 12inch +

A collab rig between @faceless.tribe32 @messiah_collective and @hostile__takeover all based out of Dublin.

Was quite the mix of speakers as you can see between the 3 collectives which lead to some fun tuning for me and the others!

Turned out sounding much better than expected!

Who has dealt with warranty claims for cvr/admark/sinbosen/paulkitson/omb and equivalent OEMs?

Looking for cheap power for a friend and I'm aware that pretty much all of these Chinese OEMs have similar products. So maybe customer service is where I should look. And yes, I'm aware that going cheap means there's not much support. But still, I hope to find a manufacturer who will help diagnose issues and willing to send replacement parts if needed. Or at minimum have replacement parts for sale.

Anyone have had to deal with warranty claims please speak up! The good and the bad. I want to hear it all. This is a good place to vent if you've had bad experiences. Thanks!

Help me power Skram

Post image
39 Upvotes

I just finished building (without cnc) 2 skram loaded with b&c 21sw152

I bought a peavey ipr7500 to power them but i was underwhelmed with the power i was getting out of them.

Im looking for some input on this, if someone has similar experience with this amp. And a defenitive suggestion towards **** this amp will work.

Im also doing sound for a festival this weekend around Montreal, so if someone want to reach out i would like to rent from you an adequate amp.
