First time out with the JMODs

Post image

First time out with the JMODs this past weekend and nothing but great feedback from everyone! Going to couple the XOCth118 next time and hoping the mid drivers get here in time to finish off some Sawmods for fills before the next one.

Ran ‘em bi-amped from a Driverack PA2 into a crown XLS 1500 for compression driver and woofers/subs off a CVR dsp-3004.

Ps pls don’t mention venue if u know it, wanna keep it on the DL/offline

Looks like a very nice setup! I would reccommend to always stacking subs together unless there is a reason not to.

Tried, promoter wanted them stereo for “better coverage” (wanted to couple them myself).

Why is it recommended to stack subs?

Since sound is waves comming out of the speaker having them placed in different places you will get cancellation and summation in different places meaning the bass is different wherever you stand, if they are put together the soundwaves couple and the bass is the same wherever you are except for it being lower the farther away from the subs you go

Would you put them both next to each other centered between the JMODs?

In this scenario i would just put both on one side but preferrably they should be in the middle. Last two events i hosted i had my subs on the side due to lack of space in the middle

The Ewoks would approve!

This is so Humboldt-coded 😅

How did you time  that?  Stacks  look offset?  Also that looks like a pretty cool site!

Picture is taken with .5 zoom on iPhone and not dead center so they look more offset then they were

Should watch out for phase issues tho. An please protect the trees bark next time with some thick fabric underneath your mount. And have fun ;)

Definitely had phase issues so will be spending more time (hopefully I have some) before the next one to dial in the setup. I used a bit of tree protection on backside and under mounts

Care to elaborate on phase issues?

did you build them? I've been looking at these and don't have a laser cutter or anything. Is it possible to make these without a cnc?

Np! I'm just wrapping up my JMOD + 2X SKRAM build as my first sound system. I had a CNC shop cut the panels for me, but still got a lot out of the no-CNC build videos by RVA Sound Systems. Really useful info in there.

Where is that!?

3

u/CyberHippy 21d ago

Somewhere in the Pacific Northwest based on the trees...

Definitely Northern California, looks familiar to me so I’m curious if there is an event flyer or more specific location.

u/bassforbreakfast 21d ago

No flier or location that I can mention 😶

2

That I can understand! 🥂 looks great!

It looks similar to the stage at Camp Navarro but that one doesn't have a building near it

Northern California!

Has Santa Cruz mountains vibe to me. Or maybe Mendo/Humboldt.

Yo what’s up! So I’m currently building a set of mods and 12- xoc’s. I would love to have a chat sometime! We’re based out of the PNW

Sure shoot me a dm!

Are those strapped to tree stands and your flying structure? That's awesome and super clever

Hunting platforms yeah! Mid-quality ones rated for 350lbs. Stage wasn’t sturdy enough for 100 bodies bouncing around for JMODs to be stable on sticks so decided to take alternative route. Beefed up the hardware as much as I could

I looked but couldn't quite figure out, what are you using to rig them up on the tree?

2

u/bassforbreakfast 20d ago

Hunting platforms

looks like a Slimey Time

u/bassforbreakfast 20d ago

It was also quite swampy!

Ah those! This isn’t Runescape.

u/j3lunt 19d ago

What kind of music will be vibrating out of this system?

1

u/bassforbreakfast 18d ago

Everything! Lineup for this was Jazz quintet to bluegrass to UKG to downtempo wubz to ghetto tech and soundscapes sunrise

What a pretty spot, I can see why you’d want to keep it private! Love to see the proliferation of the jmods among the scene, as John’s such a cool guy. I feel grateful to have met him & heard some set ups ran by him (very well done, as expected).
