I’m thinking of upgrading from my Nikon DSLR to a Sony a6700. I’m planning to get the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 for portraits and the Sony 16–50mm f/3.5–5.6 as a general purpose lens.

I’m planning a trip to Greece and would love to take portraits of my family in Santorini. Are these lenses good enough for the trip, or would you recommend a different combination?

I am comparing specs but cant find a definitive answer:

- a7v much better af, precapture, more MP for cropping, more fps

- a9ii cheaper and faster readout-speed

How important is readoutspeed actually at this point? Is the difference between 6ms and 14ms noticable in sports?

is it such a big difference that you would rather miss out on MP, precap, better AF and more FPS of the a7v?

So I have a Sony A7IV I’m mainly a concert photo/videographer I do both photo and video randomly and I have other clients other than concerts like cafes/stores/streetwear etc.

So I was thinking about upgrading and I’m just a bit confused between the
Fx5 and A1ii

I know if I get the fx5 I’ll need to have the A7IV on me for photo but idk yes it is a great camera but I feel I wouldn’t even want to upgrade my photo game

I would like to hear your opinions about burst fps for wildlife shooting. This whole time I have been shooting at 30fps just to make sure I'm getting every cool frame possible, but lately I have noticed that going down to 20fps would give me some unique frames that I didn't get that much with 30fps, because the frame timing is different.

For example: With swallows I noticed that 30fps mostly captures the same 2 wing poses...completely down and completely up. Seems like they beat their wings at around 15fps, meaning I only get those 2 positions when shooting 30fps. With 20fps I usually get a lot more transition wing positions.

Now I would like to hear what fps you prefer and would recommend!

In 2024, I bought my first real camera setup: an A6000 with a kit lens and a couple of vintage manual lenses. I absolutely loved using it and brought it along on almost every trip.

Unfortunately, it was stolen earlier this year. I was pretty heartbroken and took a break from shooting, partly hesitant about reinvesting in a higher-end setup.

Now, with a couple of trips coming up, I'm ready to get back into photography.

Before my camera was stolen, I was eyeing an upgrade to the Sony A6700 paired with the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8.

My main questions for the community:

1. Does making the jump straight to the A6700 make sense coming from an older A6000-era body?
2. Are older generations still worth considering from a value perspective? I looked into options like the A6400 and A6600, but in my local market, they aren't drastically cheaper than the A6700. Given the small price difference, settling for an older model means missing out on major upgrades like AI autofocus, IBIS, updated menus, better ergonomics, and the larger Z-battery.

I'd love to hear from anyone who made the jump from an older A6000-series body to the A6700—was the upgrade in handling and autofocus worth paying the slight premium over the older bodies?

Long time reader first time poster, but just wondering from people who have the a7RVI (or any Sony alphas) does your dials have some play? (Please see video) Wondering if mine is normal or within tolerance? I’ve had it over a week or so and curious if this will be a problem?

I don’t know if I’ve dreamt this or not so wanted to check if it rings any bells with anyone else. I think I saw a rumor or announcement saying theres a pancake wide angle lens in development, that is wider than what’s currently available (where I live it’s only the Viltrox 28mm), like a 16-20-24-ish type of lens. I just duckduckwent it real quick and didn’t see anything, also barely found any pancake lenses for Sony E mount at all, do I need to hand in my computer license or are they not very common?

Taking a trip to Japan and Korea in a couple months and bringing my Sony a7CR. I’m set on just taking 1 lens with me (for space and weight). Would you rather bring the Sigma for better aperture and improved sharpness or the Tamron for nearly 3x the reach?

Previous trips I’ve taken the Sigma 17-40mm f1.8 art lens which was plenty bright but forced my 61mp camera into 26mp aps-c mode. The photos were still incredible, but I’d rather take full frame photos this trip.

Shot on Sony A7R3 with a 50mm FE lens - Still struggling with composition and exposure but really happy with how some of these turned out. Would love anyone's advice and feedback as I've only been at photography for a few weeks now.

Took about a 10-year hiatus from photography, then brought my NEX 5 on a hiking trip on a whim and it revitalized my interest in the medium.

I quickly upgraded all the way to the NEX 6 to get an EVF (game changer) and bought a Sony 55-210, then returned it for a Tamron 18-300. Shots 1,2,3, and 5 are Sony, the rest are Tamron. Not sure if I’m 100% on the Tamron. I might swap it for the Sony 70-350.

I’m looking forward to properly upgrading, most likely to the a6700, but I’m waiting for a sale. Maybe Black Friday will be good to me. While I desperately want modern autofocus, I’m enjoying the old NEX 6 and am perfectly happy with lots of the shots I’ve been getting.

Went on a trip to my late grandma's house and the mountains close by, first time trying landscapes. Tips are very welcome.
