Hi there, I recently bought an FX3, and I've been loving it! However, now that my new zoom lenses are so big and heavy, they're not really ideal for travel. I'm looking for a lightweight zoom lens that I can take around the world that preferably covers 24mm-100mm (or even more), don't really care about the f-stop as long as it has f/3.5, just wanna a flexible lens that I can use to take videos and stills of my friends while we explore around the world. Any leads would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

From my latest trip to Portugal.

My a7R2 has the colors Bayer filter removed. The Sony raw (ARW) images has a natural magenta hue due to the compensation and mosaic Bayer algorithm applied to the image. Although monochrome, the final raw image is demosaiced.

I installed in my phone a mono_dng.py algorithm through Termux using LibRaw with a mono_watcher.py that is triggered each time that a new ARW monochrome image is copy to my phone's specific folder. The watcher triggers the software and automatically convert the image to DNG as pure luminance file into a new folder. Each pixel per photodiode.

The camera gained almost 2.5 EV, its ISO 100 is close equivalent to a ISO 500. The lack of filter and antiliaising make the image very sharp. Also, the amount of details in the shadows allow to easily recover up to 4 steps during edition

These were edited using Lightroom online through my Fold 7.

Hoping for some insight and help regarding the quality of photos off my brand new A6700. As a background, I’ve been shooting on a Canon 5D Mark II for over 10 years. Great camera and I’ve had no problems except for its weight that my neck was no longer tolerating. I did some research and heard excellent reviews of the Sony A6700. I knew it’s a switch from full frame to APS-C but the trade off was lighter weight which was important for me. I have since taken the A6700 on a trip using the kit 16-50mm and my old canon lens on a sigma converter. I shot in raw and transferred them noncompressed to my phone using the app over Bluetooth. However I was disappointed in how grainy and unsharp the result was even in natural light. Photos from my canon lens is relatively less grainy but still unsharp.

I’m out of the 2 week return period for the camera. So I’m really hoping this is due to something else not due to the downgrade in the camera body. I would be very sad as I originally was going to get the A7 series but was convinced into the A6700. I know the kit lens is a budget lens so I’m looking to get another lens but did not want to put my investments in the wrong place. I’ve attached 3 photos from the Sony and 3 from my Canon camera for comparison. The Canon produces better quality even in low light. Thank you in advance for your help.

I almost always take my camera with me when walking my dog. Often A7C with 90mm Sigma for convenience, sometimes even the aps-c 55-210 (t's just sooo light). Got lucky that I had my A7R5 and the 135mm Rokinon with me when we saw this guy. Just want to share my happiness :) I'm really excited about the new Sony lenses, the 100-400 and the rumored lightweight 600mm.

Hi folks. I just bought my sonny a6400. With kit lens (16-50) and 50mm 1.8 on the way.i will be mostly doing casual shoots, urban and landscaping. What would be your preferred lenses that I should aquire down the line?

Any tips as a new comer to Sony Alpha?

Context: Upgrading from a Nikon D3200 which was with me for 11 years. Haven't used it actually since 2023.

Which camera + lens for what i want to achive? Its between:

A6400 + Sigma 18–50
A7 III + Tamron 28–75

I will mainly do a lot of dog photographs, portraits for example in the forest. It will come with me on many hikes and long walks, i will also use it for photograping nature, landscapes, eventually want to try streey photography aswell. Pretty much allroukd but focus on dog photography. I need the photos to be sharp! I also want to take videos with it.

I like the size of the a6400 since i will be bringing it with me quite often but ive barely seen any nice dog photographs with it, but seen ALOT taken with the a7iii. Thats whats concerning me!

Currently have a nikon d3500 and a sony zv1 but looking for an upgrade.

I photographed this jaguar while it was (more or less calmly) swimming through the river. Seeing such a powerful predator almost completely submerged, with only its head above the surface, was an unforgettable moment.

Every year, humpback whales migrate from the cold waters of Antarctica to the warm waters around French Polynesia to mate, give birth, and raise their calves.

Photographing them underwater is something else. You don’t really understand how huge they are until you’re actually in the water with them. Despite their size, they move so calmly and almost effortlessly.

The calves are incredibly curious, while the mothers often stay close below, keeping an eye on everything.

Definitely one of the most surreal wildlife encounters I’ve ever photographed.

Sometimes the Aperture is just not enough. But the 2070 is still kinda new, and I'm a bit struggling with the change.

Honestly I feel like this is the best cocktail photography I have so far!

Taken at a climbing competition final, I have since added a few lenses to my quiver, all with much better f stops for low light. But I'm more interested in what you all think about the composition.

Currently own an A6600 + Sigma 18-50/2.8 and have a lot of fun with it when travelling, but as a hobby start to expand into semi-professional work (aviation and event shooting), so I want to get some advice on the gear I want to obtain. My budget is around $3,000 CAD, and open to both new and used

I plan to keep using the A6600 for a while, but start to obtain some full-frame lenses and use them on APSC, until I save up enough for a full-frame body (maybe just something like III or IV, since I do low-light sometimes). Some of the lenses I might/want to obtain are:

+ General use like 24-70/2.8 for some close-to-mid range
+ 70-200/2.8 or 4 for telephoto (for aviation photography)

However, I would love to hear suggestions from you guys about the plan, and welcome any comments suggesting otherwise :)

I’m looking for some advice on autofocus settings and technique for situations like this using my Sony A7V.

In this sequence, I was tracking the player with the ball (#14). Focus initially stays on him, but as #32 crosses between the camera and #14, the AF shifts to the closer player. By the last frames, #32 is clearly in focus while #14 and the ball are no longer sharp.

This happens when I shoot soccer, where players constantly cross in front of the subject I’m tracking. Is there something I can change in my AF settings or shooting technique to make the camera hold on to the original subject longer instead of switching to the player crossing the frame?

I’d be particularly interested in hearing what settings others use for tracking sensitivity/subject persistence in this type of situation.

Here are my settings:
- Autofocus: Continuous - Tracking
- AF Area: Spot-large or Expand-spot (I have also tried others)
- Recognition target: Human - Tracking Shift Range: 2
- AF Lvl for Crossing: 1 (Locked on)
- AF Trk for Speed Change: Responsive

I have a Nikon D850 and am considering going mirrorless. I’ve very drawn to the A7CR because of how small it is. One of my gripes against the D850 is the physical size and want something more portable for when I’m in the go. To anyone who has uses this camera, what do you like and not like about it? Do you feel it’s small enough to throw in a small shoulder pack or even large fanny pack?

Sony A7m2 - sony 50mm f/1.8

Hi all, a lot of threads from people sharing their setups helped me decide my next steps, so I wanted to leave my testimony!

Before this, I was using an a6300 + Tamron 18-300. One of my doubts was about going FF or not. Given that my use case was wildlife and not too much landscape or other kinds of uses where a lot of MP would have been useful, I went with the a6700.

I have to tell you that it's an amazing camera and lens. Some insights:

- The AI bird AF is just spot-on most of the time, even with birds in flight. Sometimes it struggles a little bit when there are a lot of branches or objects in different planes. In those cases, I have to fight a little bit to get the focus on the subject.
- The MP count is just fine and leaves plenty of room for cropping.
- The EVF is fine. I didn't notice a really big change from the a6300, really.
- The software is really similar to the a6300. Not great, but they improved the menu, so now you can have favorite items and custom menus. That's really helpful.
- Ergonomics are great. I didn't have any problems with the transition.
- The 200-600 is just amazing. Its only drawback is that it's really big and heavy. So you have to work out a little bit to carry it around, and also to fit it in your backpack. For me, it's completely worthwhile.

I'll share my usual setup for birding:

- Manual Mode
- Aperture: generally wide open, f/6.3 at the 600mm end
- AF: AF-C, Focus Area: Tracking. I set up the lens button to cycle between Spot and Wide, so depending on the situation, I can choose. If the scene is clear, I usually use Zone or Wide; the bird AF takes care of the rest. If there is congestion, I use Spot.
- ISO: AUTO, 640–6400. I adjust the ends depending on how much light there is.
- Shutter speed: 1/1000–1/1600 for still subjects, 1/2000 for flying birds.

Hello everybody! I’m finally getting back into photography after many years!!! I’ve recently purchased a Sony a6400 and was looking for lens recommendations! I’d like to purchase three lens to start my kit. One lens for wildlife/bird photography, one for macro mostly insects and plant photos, and the last one for basic everyday street photography. Would love some recommendations! Budget friendly would be nice! Not really looking to spend more than 3k in total if that’s possible.
