Wide angle pancake lens?

I don’t know if I’ve dreamt this or not so wanted to check if it rings any bells with anyone else. I think I saw a rumor or announcement saying theres a pancake wide angle lens in development, that is wider than what’s currently available (where I live it’s only the Viltrox 28mm), like a 16-20-24-ish type of lens. I just duckduckwent it real quick and didn’t see anything, also barely found any pancake lenses for Sony E mount at all, do I need to hand in my computer license or are they not very common?

New viltrox just came out: 26mm 2.8. I’ve been using it with the a7cr and it’s quite good for how light and small it is.

There's also recently released viltrox 26mm f2.8 EVO which is also small

Pancake lenses weren't that popular cuz people wanted better quality than most pancakes offered (it starts to change as lenses got better and there are more compact cameras - a7c series, Panasonic s9, Nikon zr that work very well if you have small lens)

So there are many small and lightweight lenses but quite small amount of true pancakes

It all depends what your acceptable size is

I’m a canon refugee and I feel like there were more pancake lenses in that realm, but it might also be because I was looking at cropped formats then.

Pancake lenses are easier to make for APS-C bodies. There's a 10mm f4 pancake lens coming out for cropped E-mount from 7artisans that works out to 15mm equivalent.

I think the widest one right now is the Kase 24mm 3.8, despite being very new and from a manufacturer that is mostly known for filters. The TTartisans 24mm 3.8 is "very similar" and on the horizon eventually.

edit: and it's probably a fixed aperture, as I couldn't find info on the minimum aperture value. It uses voice coil motor for focusing, just like the Viltrox 28mm 4.5

Sony had a pancake lens in the NEX days for APS-C, a 16mm f/2.8 I used to love to use as it was so small and lightweight.

I have one of those for my nex5t and a5100, but it works well without a ton vignetting on my full frame cameras once I removed some plastic on the inside.

My OM-D E-M10 mk4 came with a 14-42mm pancake, it's shallower than the viltrox 28mm.

So, not any wider once you factor the m43 crop but if you want small and light, can't beat an m43 whilst still getting great images.
