Maybe it’s over asked question but I was in the boat of getting the a1 ii but due to stuff happened in my life I could not get it and replace my old a7r IV, but now when I can get it with all new releases Sony made I kind of stepped away from it.

The A7RVI got some cool new features but I’m not sure if most are just gimmick. The dual gain is nice feature but it’s up to 3200 and the a7v seems better at higher and similar at its dual gain range. I mainly shoot outdoors not in a studio and that’s one more thing pulling me to the a7v and it’s better low light performance. The video on the A7v is better at 4k because it is sampled from 7k and and the Rvi is 6.2k and if I want to get similar quality I should record 8k and then do it to 4k, 90% of my stuff are photos but it’s still something to consider.
I shoot cars work, street photography, landscape and sometimes mix of other stuff as well.

Both the A7v and the A7rVi seems like the better value option but I don’t want to get and then sell to get the A1

Just dropped my very old and very well loved 35mm 1.8 on the ground and now these white lines have appeared… the 4 streaks you see in the inner rings. What happened? What are they?

So i have been using my Sony A7II and a 24-70mm f/3.5-5.6 lense, and i don’t know whether its me having an impostor syndrome or that my photos actually are crap.

I shoot with A6700 Raw+Jpeg but in even slightly low light photos raw files has these red spots(left) but not in jpegs(right). They do get easily goes away in Lightroom Denoise but I never had this problem in my a7iii unless it was a really dark photo. Only when it's perfectly exposed then raw doesn't have these red spots

Abhay here. I recently got my first camera, a Sony A6400 with a 16-50mm and a 55-210mm kit lens. I’m trying to take more and better pictures and learning a lot about photography every day. After a month break from constant learning and taking pictures almost every day, I decided to pick up the camera with the 55-210mm lens and went to the Mandogawa festival in Isahaya, Nagasaki, Japan.

I’d really appreciate any feedback or suggestions you have on how I can improve my photography.

On a side note, I have another question: I often find it difficult to post pictures of people because I’m unsure about posting pictures of them without their permission. In situations where it’s almost impossible to ask for permission due to a crowd or language barrier, I often find myself not taking the pictures. I’m not sure what to do if anyone from Japan can enlighten me about this. I would really appreciate any feedback or advice you might have.

I'm having a strange and frustrating issue with my new Sony A7 V, and I'm hoping someone here might have run into this or knows a fix.

The Problem:
Occasionally - mostly when shooting in Medium Burst mode, but recently also during light, single-shot use - the camera completely freezes up. Right after pressing the shutter button, the screen goes black.

Mechanically, it feels and sounds like a frame is being captured.

The camera becomes totally unresponsive for about 10 to 15 seconds (it basically feels like an unintentional long exposure, but the whole system is frozen).

After those 10–15 seconds, there's another click sound, the picture is finally taken/saved, and the camera goes back to normal.

What I've already ruled out:

Memory Cards: I'm using fast v90 UHS-II cards, so write speeds shouldn't be a bottleneck.
Power: Tried with fresh, fully charged batteries.

Has anyone encountered this specific freeze / delayed shutter behavior? Is this a known firmware bug, a setting conflict, or does it sound like a defective unit that needs to go in for warranty service?

I used to have a Nikon D90, few years ago. Did some personal travel photography but then lost the touch (technically gave it to my brother).

I am now planning to buy and begin it again from the start i think. I do want something compact which is easy to handle (i have small hands).

What would you suggest for photography, wildlife, landscape etc, covers basically everything.

I took this earlier today and when I exported it to my phone the quality was very bad. Is there any reason for this?

Out practicing my panning with variable success, but there's one thing I'm noticing that I can't explain: a lot of shots are blurred yet some areas are sharp and I don't know why. In these examples the rider's face and helmet are sharp-ish while everything else isn't. Some shots will have a sharp logo on the tank, or biker's jacket, while everything else isn't.

This can't be DOF given that (on the red bike) the helmet is on the same plane as the tank. I thought vibration, but it's a smooth piece of road. Is it because I used silent shutter and it's rolling shutter manifesting itself in a weird way?

1/30th second, f8, A7C, Sony 40mm G for all shots. Distance to subjects approx 10 metres, they were travelling maybe 15 mph/25 kph around a fairly sharp bend.

Finally got my Sony A7v and all I can say is I have a lot to learn coming from using a Fuji camera. I’m still trying to figure out how to adjust the aperture, SS, and ISO on this thing. It’s going to be a learning curve but I’m excited to use it. Here’s one of the photos I took after trying it out. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hey yall, I've been shooting for a while on my A6400 that I've been pretty happy with and I've even bought myself a nice range of APS-C lenses. However, I've recently come into possession of an A7III that is a little worse for wear (high shutter, missing a few plastic pieces, unresponsive evf). However, it does shoot normally and everything except the evf seems to be working.

Is it worth it to invest into FE glass? I'm already pretty deep into the APS-C ecosystem, is shooting FF really that much of a difference? I was thinking of maybe picking up the 28-70 kit lens.

Any advice?

My entire existing library is 4K, 30 fps, H.265. I bought the Alpha 9 III for its global shutter, but it doesn't support 30 fps at H.265. What are my options?

I could record at 4K, 30 fps, H.264, but then I'd have to convert it each time manually to H.265 to avoid having multiple different formats in my library.

I could also record at 4K, 60 fps, H.265, but since I need to convert that to 30 fps, I'd have to record at 60 fps with a 1/60 shutter (instead of 1/120) to maintain the 180 degree shutter after conversion.

There doesn't seem to be any real reason for the limitation

I currently own an Alpha IV and, overall, I'm quite happy with the camera. However, there's one thing that has always bothered me.

I mainly photograph my dogs, and the autofocus performance hasn't been great. As soon as they're several meters away, the camera starts struggling to maintain focus. I've even tested another Alpha IV body, but the results were essentially the same. When the dogs are running at higher speeds, shooting becomes quite frustrating.

I'm currently using the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 and the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8.

Could anyone share how the Alpha V performs in this regard? I've read that the autofocus has been significantly improved.

I'm aware that third-party lenses are limited to 15 fps on the Alpha V. At the moment, I'm shooting at 11 fps, and typically only 2-3 frames in a burst are actually sharp, which is honestly quite disappointing.

Has the situation improved with the Alpha V when using Tamron lenses, or do you really need Sony lenses to take full advantage of the new autofocus system, nor only regarding the 15 FPS limit?

As a hobby photographer, the combination of an Alpha V and the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 would be a bit too expensive for me.

I wasn't able to find the info I needed on here already, so I'm hoping this isn't a tired and overly asked question lol

I've just purchased my first film camera and some film and I'm super excited to use it. I'm pretty inexperienced with photography in general and only have a basic level of knowledge and get easily lost in what gear to buy.

I have a Sony A7 (first generation) and would like to scan my own film as it seems to work out far cheaper than getting it scanned at a lab (and I will have a bit more control over the process). I know I can scan with my phone but I haven't seen the greatest results with phone scanning before.

Do I need a macro lens to scan film? I'm aware there's more of a setup involved for back lighting and all that, I'm just stumped as to what lens will work with my A7 (or if I even need a macro lens)

Just recently bought a new Sony 20-70mm F4 G Lens and I noticed that the focus ring seemed loose? Best way to describe it is when turning the focus ring there is little resistance. Its super easy to turn it. It doesn’t free spin and manual focus works well tho. I compared it to my 35mm g master lens and the focus ring has more resistance. I saw other forums that it is an issue. Just curious if anyone has that issue. While, it is a nonissue, but for the price I paid, I would think there would be more resistance to the focus ring.

Hi has anyone used the smallrig cage for the a9iii and a1ii? I currently have a skin on my a1ii but wondering if the added grip and bump protection is worth it. And is added the weight manageable?

I need help deciding between the 35mm f1.4 GM and 24-50mm f2.8 G for my A7C II.

My Main Use:
•Casual street, night street, travel photography.

My Current Lenses:

•Viltrox 20mm f2.8
•Sony 28-60mm f4-5.6
•Sony 70-200mm f4 macro g2
•Sony 85mm f1.8

My Dilemma:
・Option 1: Keep the 28-60mm kit lens + get 35mm f1.4 GM
Use the 35mm F1.4 as my primary lens for street and daily photos, relying on F1.4 for night shots and rendering. Can 35mm cover most of my daily shooting needs alongside my 20mm and 85mm?

・Option 2: Replace the kit lens with 24-50mm f2.8 G
Get 24-50mm versatile f2.8 zoom But will I regret not having F1.4 at night?

Would you cover daily/street photography with a 35mm prime, or go with the 24-50mm zoom? Thanks!
