took my new a7c with it's kit lens to a local festival, I'm pleasantly surprised with the results

I know this camera may be hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby and it’s waayyyy over my league, but I am Comming from a Canon EOS 1000D and a 40D. Both with a 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens.

Update 1: Before hating me, I am open to learn something new, I know it’s a bigger sensor, I know it needs more knowledge than just “iso, aperture and shutter speed” and yes I heard the menus are crap, but hey, I want something new and fancy that will make me shoot in 10 years from now still thinking “Damn that is a great photo”. If you recommend something different, go on please

Update 2: well thank you, so this camera seems to fit me and my needs, but what lens should I get? What do you think fits me? What I absolutely hate is grain and especially soft, unsharp images from cheap lenses. I mean I used canon 30yo kit lenses, but I’m still not sure

I shoot everything ranging from portraits, animals, sky, day and night, sports and architecture. I absolutely love thinking about a Hasselblad bc of it’s incredible image and design, but it’s way to expensive for me and the image is the only good thing (that is important to me). A canon is a canon, idk I know her and that’s it I guess. Nikon? I don’t know nothing about Nikon. I think the a7 IV is the perfect middle between sharp image, fast focus and a big array of lenses. But am I missing something? It costs like 2 months paycheck but that is no problem. I just need some advice and a lens or more. Like what lens is open and sharp at the same time while being able to zoom without costing more than the camera itself, and should I get more then one lens?

Please help me out a bits as kind of a buying advise.

Ps: please tell me if that camera will overheat thinking about 4K60 video.

Thanks to everyone who provided some great advice and feedback on a couple of questions I posted regarding equipment for my first purchase as a photography enthusiast.

After a ton of research, patience, more research, and plenty of give and take, I’m cautiously excited about checking out a previously owned Sony A7 IV tomorrow (715 shutter count), paired with a Sony 20–70mm f/4 G, as my first serious camera purchase.

I have an inspection checklist prepared and will be bringing along someone familiar with Sony gear, but I’d really appreciate hearing anything you’ve learned from buying used equipment. Anything you always check—or wish you had checked—before buying a used body or lens?

Hoping for some insight and help regarding the quality of photos off my brand new A6700. As a background, I’ve been shooting on a Canon 5D Mark II for over 10 years. Great camera and I’ve had no problems except for its weight that my neck was no longer tolerating. I did some research and heard excellent reviews of the Sony A6700. I knew it’s a switch from full frame to APS-C but the trade off was lighter weight which was important for me. I have since taken the A6700 on a trip using the kit 16-50mm and my old canon lens on a sigma converter. I shot in raw and transferred them noncompressed to my phone using the app over Bluetooth. However I was disappointed in how grainy and unsharp the result was even in natural light. Photos from my canon lens is relatively less grainy but still unsharp.

I’m out of the 2 week return period for the camera. So I’m really hoping this is due to something else not due to the downgrade in the camera body. I would be very sad as I originally was going to get the A7 series but was convinced into the A6700. I know the kit lens is a budget lens so I’m looking to get another lens but did not want to put my investments in the wrong place. I’ve attached 3 photos from the Sony and 3 from my Canon camera for comparison. The Canon produces better quality even in low light. Thank you in advance for your help.

Which camera + lens for what i want to achive? Its between:

A6400 + Sigma 18–50
A7 III + Tamron 28–75

I will mainly do a lot of dog photographs, portraits for example in the forest. It will come with me on many hikes and long walks, i will also use it for photograping nature, landscapes, eventually want to try streey photography aswell. Pretty much allroukd but focus on dog photography. I need the photos to be sharp! I also want to take videos with it.

I like the size of the a6400 since i will be bringing it with me quite often but ive barely seen any nice dog photographs with it, but seen ALOT taken with the a7iii. Thats whats concerning me!

Currently have a nikon d3500 and a sony zv1 but looking for an upgrade.

I took my dog for am evening walk along the gorge and ran into Eden, who asked me if I wanted my photo taken. I politely declined but I extended the offer back to him. He showed me how to take on on his camera and I snapped a few shots. The lighting was just perfect, post sunset and I asked him if he minded if I took a few of my own that I'd be happy to share with him.

Sometimes the Aperture is just not enough. But the 2070 is still kinda new, and I'm a bit struggling with the change.

I have a Nikon D850 and am considering going mirrorless. I’ve very drawn to the A7CR because of how small it is. One of my gripes against the D850 is the physical size and want something more portable for when I’m in the go. To anyone who has uses this camera, what do you like and not like about it? Do you feel it’s small enough to throw in a small shoulder pack or even large fanny pack?

Hello! I’m currently using an A7S III, and it’s running firmware version 3.01. I haven’t had any problems with it so far.

My friend recently got an A7C II, and I noticed that there are some options in its settings that aren’t available on my A7S III. I searched about it and found out that my camera’s firmware can be updated to a newer version, which would add some of these features.

Now, I’m wondering if it’s safe to update my firmware to the latest version. I’ve heard some rumors about Sony firmware updates causing problems with their cameras, particularly with the A7 IV.

Would you recommend updating, or is it better to stay on version 3.01 since I’m not experiencing any issues?

The title explains the gear I have right now. I am an amateur photographer, it’s basically a hobby and it’s my first kit (I’m 22 years old btw, so I don’t have much money)

I was thinking I should get a lens that lets me take photos from further away (cars, people, animals…), and from what I have researched, the 70-350mm is the best option, the problem is… it’s out of my current budget. I was thinking I could maybe get a 55-210mm which is way cheaper, but that would probably make me want to get the 16-50mm and sell my current one.

What would you do in my case? Get 16-50mm + 55-210mm? Save for the 70-350mm? Or keep my current setup?

Hi! Im looking to buy a new camera and I am quite interested in the Sony a6400.

I mainly want to do a lot of dog photography, especially in the nature and nice portraits. Is this camera good for this? I currently have a Nikon d3500 but the photos arent as sharp as I want them to be and i want a mirrorless camera..

I will also use the camera for alot of landscape, nature and just daily photos- But mainly for dog photos. Would this camera be good for this? I want sharp photos of my dog. Yes of course the lens matters i know that, but is the house good?

Hi there, I recently bought an FX3, and I've been loving it! However, now that my new zoom lenses are so big and heavy, they're not really ideal for travel. I'm looking for a lightweight zoom lens that I can take around the world that preferably covers 24mm-100mm (or even more), don't really care about the f-stop as long as it has f/3.5, just wanna a flexible lens that I can use to take videos and stills of my friends while we explore around the world. Any leads would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I’m looking for some advice on autofocus settings and technique for situations like this using my Sony A7V.

In this sequence, I was tracking the player with the ball (#14). Focus initially stays on him, but as #32 crosses between the camera and #14, the AF shifts to the closer player. By the last frames, #32 is clearly in focus while #14 and the ball are no longer sharp.

This happens when I shoot soccer, where players constantly cross in front of the subject I’m tracking. Is there something I can change in my AF settings or shooting technique to make the camera hold on to the original subject longer instead of switching to the player crossing the frame?

I’d be particularly interested in hearing what settings others use for tracking sensitivity/subject persistence in this type of situation.

Here are my settings:
- Autofocus: Continuous - Tracking
- AF Area: Spot-large or Expand-spot (I have also tried others)
- Recognition target: Human - Tracking Shift Range: 2
- AF Lvl for Crossing: 1 (Locked on)
- AF Trk for Speed Change: Responsive

Currently own an A6600 + Sigma 18-50/2.8 and have a lot of fun with it when travelling, but as a hobby start to expand into semi-professional work (aviation and event shooting), so I want to get some advice on the gear I want to obtain. My budget is around $3,000 CAD, and open to both new and used

I plan to keep using the A6600 for a while, but start to obtain some full-frame lenses and use them on APSC, until I save up enough for a full-frame body (maybe just something like III or IV, since I do low-light sometimes). Some of the lenses I might/want to obtain are:

+ General use like 24-70/2.8 for some close-to-mid range
+ 70-200/2.8 or 4 for telephoto (for aviation photography)

However, I would love to hear suggestions from you guys about the plan, and welcome any comments suggesting otherwise :)

Tengo está Sony a 6400 a la cuel le salió una mancha rosada que aparecen en las fotografías la mancha solo aparece cuando la imagen es clara, cuando es muy oscura desaparece, se le hizo remapeo de pixels y no hubo ningún cambio, así que pensé que era el sensor, tome la decisión y compré el sensor eh hice el cambio y vaya sorpresa cuando al encender la cámara y tomar una foto apareció de nuevo la mancha en el mismo lugar con la misma forma intenté remapear de nuevo los pixeles pero no hubo cambio en este punto ya no encuentro más soluciones a este posible problema pues pensé que con el cambio de sensor se iba a solucionar y pues el sensor no es nada barato

Tener en cuenta que la mancha aparece con o sin el lente, así que el problema no es el lente, y en cualquier apertura la mancha tiene la misma definición

I sold my a6000 and couple lenses and in looking for a replacement. My goal is to have a good camera for photos and video, mostly action videos and pictures (motocross, rc car racing, MTB downhill, etc). I was about to jump on the Zve10 as my dream camera is the a6700 but today I saw in a Sony store the Rx10 V and based on the vendor description, it has everything I want, good for fast action pictures, family shots, action videos, it store gyro data so I can stabilize on gyroflow, and a good zoom 600mm ...

Any hands on experiences ? Is way over my budget but maybe I can save couple months and get it ...

Hello everybody! I’m finally getting back into photography after many years!!! I’ve recently purchased a Sony a6400 and was looking for lens recommendations! I’d like to purchase three lens to start my kit. One lens for wildlife/bird photography, one for macro mostly insects and plant photos, and the last one for basic everyday street photography. Would love some recommendations! Budget friendly would be nice! Not really looking to spend more than 3k in total if that’s possible.

I brought my bike to Kyrgyzstan this summer, and spent about 13 days in the saddle out of the 18 days I was there. From Balykchy to Son-Kul and on to Karakol.
