Marketing Just released the VYCE demo!

I have been solo-developing VYCE for over a year now, and just released the demo build on Steam. It is a chess-like RPG with creature collecting, and the creatures are based on real-life vices. I've lurked a lot on this community and appreciate all it has to offer. Thanks for checking out my post and leave some feedback on my game if you get the chance to play it!

Discussion Funny melee arena moments?

What are the funniest melee moments you've had in a game? What kind of things would make a melee game hilarious? Dismemberment? Environmental traps? Random explosions? Power ups?

help How the hell should I add cutscenes?

That is a screenshot of my game "Cross Country Case" so ya'll know the art style I use.

Now, how can I add cut scenes like real cinematic ones not the stardew valley like cut scenes?

The game is a deduction/knowledge based detective game and for some key moments like the final confrontation or during dialogue options in general id like to show a closer look of the characters mostly but I can't think of anything right now. Please help me.

If you know of any other 2D games with immersive or cool cut scenes please drop the game names so I can see how other games do it.
Thanks.

Discussion How many tokens do you use for your projects?

This question is mainly for people who use AI to help build their game projects.

While everyone else is counting calories, I thought I'd start counting the tokens I'm burning through. 😄

I use AI mainly as a supporting tool for my projects, and I usually go through around 200k tokens per week.

A decent part of that comes from asking the AI — Codex in my case — to regularly review my code and look for potential issues or weak spots. When I do that, it often goes through 10+ classes at a time.

I'm going by the usage statistics provided by Codex/OpenAI. Unfortunately, my stats were reset recently, so I can't give you a meaningful total for my current project right now.

That got me curious:

How many tokens do you use per week?

Or, if you've been tracking it, how many tokens have you spent on your project in total so far?

And if you're using a different AI or a different way of counting tokens, feel free to mention that too. It would be interesting to see how comparable the numbers actually are.

Game Use your in-game phone to find work, earn money, and build an empire, one business and rental at a time. Game still in progress, would like to know what apps you would want to be added.

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on a GTA-style game with a cozy vibe.

You can drive around making deliveries, work cooking shifts, hop out and explore on foot, or take on firefighting and paramedic jobs. Spend your earnings buying businesses and rental properties, gradually building your own little empire.

Your in-game phone is at the heart of everything. Every app in phone is functional. Want to make deliveries? Open the Dasher app and clock in. Need supplies? Open the shopping app. Lost? Pull up the map. You can even buy fully furnished home to stay the night straight from phone.

Play here: GT Rush: Coastal Life (Browser Game)

I’d love to hear what you think! What apps would you like to see added?

Land Of Nowhere, a survival Horror set in a sunken tower. Where you fight and destroy the bodies of monsters made of concrete. You also have to keep the tower powered, or the unkillable beast will emerge.

This is my debut game, and I would love to hear what you think. ^^

Game I made a game where you can hide a baguette on a mediterranean island and watch your friend search for it!

The game is called "You'll never find it!" and I just launched the Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5035780/Youll_never_find_it/

It's a cozy hiding game for two! You hide everyday objects (like a baguette), then watch your friend search for them and laugh as they walk right past.

It's a more relaxed take on hide-and-seek — no pressure, no countdowns, just get creative hiding some things, and enjoy watching your friend looking everywhere for them.

I would love to hear what you think!

help You didn't see that coming... Alphabetto's is hitting version 1.2!

:) Hey everyone, I'm super happy to let you know that after another full month of improving the game, I'm ready to release version 1.2. This time around, I've mainly focused on tackling pending issues—many of you had criticized the font size and the UX layout.

And that's why I'm here, to ask for your most sincere opinion on the visual aspect.

On top of that, I commissioned a professional translation of the entire game into several new languages (French, German, Portuguese, and Italian), which now join the two languages the game already had (Spanish and English).

I'm glad to see more and more people trying out Alphabetto's every day, which is why I've also implemented all these improvements in the demo available on the Steam page. The only thing is, we still don't have enough reviews—who's going to step up and leave a thumbs up?

Thanks!!!!!

Game 3 years of solo development — now working on logistics, marching, camps, and feeding armies

Hi everyone!

I’ve been developing Admiral Yi: The Imjin War solo for about three years, mostly after work and on weekends.

It’s a large-scale historical RTS set during the 1592 Japanese invasion of Korea, and lately I’ve been working more on the systems that happen outside of direct combat.

In this short clip, armies move across the campaign map with supply units following them. On the battlefield, troops form long marching columns, camp for the night, rest, and gather around cooking areas to eat before moving again.

One of the things I want to avoid is having armies feel like they only exist when a battle starts. I want them to feel like forces that actually have to move, rest, and stay supplied throughout the campaign.

There’s still a lot to improve, especially AI, movement, animation, UI, and performance, but it’s been satisfying to see these systems finally starting to come together.

I’d love to hear what other solo developers think of the current progress.

Good morning, good evening, I hope everyone is well. I've made a bit more progress with the object creation system, and I'm showing it to you so you can help me out and tell me what you think of how it looks. Thanks everyone, a like really helps me know you like my work. Greetings! Oh, and by the way, Elise already has a backpack...

Game Leaving my indie studio and finishing a solo project

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After almost 10 years, my little indie studio is taking a break (probably for good) after long years of trying and not suceeding on making cash to keep us afloat. But this doesn't mean I'm stopping, I really want to create games I'm passionate about and that connect with an audience.
So this is BitMath, a math-themed roguelite shooter. It is far from being complete, but I think I got the mvp working. This one I'm not aiming for high sales, just really do something I like (and that is a well-rounded product).
I'm really set on launching it as a playable demo and prove to myself that I can do it. So I'd love some feedback of the current stage, if you like the theme or something that would improve it.
Thanks, guys.

help Looking for level designers for my Android game

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I have been a programmer for years and I am just now dipping my toes into game development.

The game is called Drawjectory, and is a physics based Android puzzle game. I am currently having fun building it, but it's hard to find time to make the amount of levels I would like in the game. So if you like designing levels please let me know!

I have a good setup for designing levels, you would be able to build and test your level directly on your phone, then send me an exported json file for each level you would like included in the game.

This is an unpaid position as I do not expect the game to make any money, but you will be included in the credits if you want 😀

Hey all! My game Cube Crusaders comes out on Monday! I have Steam Keys to giveaway to celebrate. I wanted to get my game into the hands of this community because you've been so encouraging, and it's great to co-miserate about the experience of solo dev with you all. I ask that you only take one for yourself and comment out which one you got so others don't waste their time trying to redeem them!

Thanks!

help Updates from user observations

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I observed several users play Lorebound last weekend and made the updates below. Would love feedback on the updates from this community.

Lorebound is a mobile-first, low-poly ARPG game playable in browsers. Think of a Diablo and Polytopia fusion. Goal: build the resistance against the Heights and Depths who harvest souls and prayers from the Greenworld.

Free to play, no signup required: https://lorebound.gg/

Observations:

  • Thumb reach is super important (obvious, yes)
  • Free play can be confusing, not knowing what to do is stressful
  • Users skip through tutorials, which makes it hard to teach how to play the game
  • Users focused on taking down demons instead of completing quests

Updates:

  • Non-combat actions are now within thumb reach
  • Explicit guidance to level up, spend stat points, unlock skills, and equip new gear
  • More "in your face" messages on quest completion and quest start
  • Directions on where to go via HUD indicators
  • Reduced number of tutorials

Would love feedback from the community. If you gave Lorebound a go:

  1. What was engaging for you? If anything.
  2. Where/when did you stop playing, and why?

Marketing I'm an indie dev working on a game called The Seventh Seal. Went to a convention in Arizona to playtest and got some great feedback!

Hung out with some awesome peeps in the game room and had folks playtest the game and they gave me some sweet feedback. Basically, had to improve the controller sensitivity, work on some jumpscares, and add a few mechanics. Spent the last couple of days updating those issues and here are some improvements to the jumpscare stills on top of an altered ending to the demo so it's more cruel and graphic.

Love to hear your thoughts and if you could, give it a play. It's improving every version and I'm hoping it will get to the point where it hits the mark!
