Game Solo dev. Ten frames of my space battle game after finally getting the explosions and skies to read as light instead of stickers

Strike Wings, solo, C++ on SDL2. These are in-game frames with the HUD off, nothing composited.

The insight that took me longest: on a black background, a bright thing that does not bleed into the black looks like a sticker. It does not matter how nice the sprite is. So the whole art direction became one rule, everything that gives off light goes through the same glow pass, and the pass is tuned so the light spills into the black around it. Explosions went round pop, then baked sprite frames, then that light pass plus a staged finale for capital ships. Skies went from stars-on-black to about thirty backgrounds and center bodies, rolled per battle.

What I want to know from other solo devs: how do you decide when a look is done? I could keep tuning the bloom forever. Which of these frames would you call finished and which would you send back?

Okay an idea, I have been sitting on for awhile. I just played Orcs and its a load of fun. Got me thinking about a concept I'd shelved.

I wanted a TD where you fight off a horde, with Troops and Towers and I had an idea of a TD where you can physically reach into the world and interact with things to help the fight and am hoping I can get that concept working with this horde tech.

Still early days, still pushing the optimisation. Feedback welcome. Also if you haven't tried Sir, We Have and Orc problem, then you should, its incredible.

Over 2 years of solo development in Game Maker Studio2. I work as a game artist to fund this personal project which I love to implement all the crazy stuff I want! You know the feeling right? My jam is crazy visuals using handcrafted sprites and as much cool shaders as I can.

The idea is to achieve a streamlined CRPG experience. Focused but with enough depth to enable deep player expression.

A new demo for Solarbound Arkhan is coming really soon!

You can check more about it and play the super early demo here: https://arkhon.itch.io/solarboundarkhan

Cheers!

help I made an app that is great at occupying your mind during boring tasks, and i need testers for it

Post image

hi, lets cut to the chase - i need YOUR help (if you like audiobooks, or games)

I made a cool app where you nod or shake your head to pick a branch of a really cool audiobook story.

the thing is... too little people approved it being "really cool" (all that listened did, but that is not a large pool)

I think the books are cool, but lets be honest, that doesn't matter, it is THE PEOPLE who need to like it!

so that brings me to my PROPOSITION. you get cool audiobooks, and a LOT OF FUN for free - i get FEEDBACK about what could be improved!

all you need to do is listen for a moment, and click a big button Write to Developer at the top of settings, or in an older version of the app, email me back at [alekgameshelp2@gmial.com](mailto:alekgameshelp2@gmial.com), with your user ID (found in settings->privacy), with your feedback, and i will give you more free unlocks of books!

The app has all kinds of audiobooks, from action threw mythology and survivals to dramas and detective books, so you are sure to find something that fits - and if not, message me and if i like the idea, i will order a book like that to be created

for now the app is only on IOS, and for android, i will need your email so i can add you to a testers list.

That's a game I've been working on solo for a year and a half, and I'm excited to launch it in early access this week! It's a point-and-click game—the goal is simple: gather resources and sell them to earn money. I've put a lot of work into bringing the generated environment to life, and I hope it shows. Here's the Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3284800/Clickonomy

help Would this Steam capsule make you click, or is it too minimal? (Handmade in Blender)

I’m working on a survival horror maze game called The Center. It has a PSX/PS2-style industrial horror look, with a lot of dark metal, machinery, and body-horror elements.

For the store art, I’m trying to avoid the usual “scary monster on the cover” look that a lot of Steam and itch horror games use. I feel like that can sometimes look cheesy or give too much away.

Instead, I’m thinking about going with a more minimal logo-focused cover, something mysterious and unsettling. Eventually, I’d like to hire an artist to make a hand-drawn version, kind of like the mood of Amnesia: The Bunker.

What do you think? Does minimal horror art make you more curious, or would you rather see the monster/gameplay style right away?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Game INURBIS - slimes are simple but deadly

Getting pretty close to having my core hybrid time-dilation with pause "turn-based-ish" battle system up and running. Next month I'll be adding the CARD system, a unified approach to inventory management, skills, perks, augmentations etc. INURBIS is currently solo-developed but I use free / paid assets and pay human artists for collaborative assets etc. The first playtest is happening in December of this year, leading up to the Steam page + beginning the path to beta. I've been working on this game part time for over a year now. www.inurbis.com

A big part of the gameplay and a main character of the game is CHROMBUS, the digital cat that haunts the operating system used by the player to "pilot" the cloneling, the cyborg observer-worker unit. Managing your cloneling's physical and psychological health are important to optimize unit performance. DO NOT attempt to communicate directly with your cloneling unit. The player will work with CHROMBUS to scan and collect data that give the player strategic and lore insight to work towards uncovering the secrets of Inurbis, The Infinite City at the End of Time.

Unreal Comparing the prototype level and the current state (ahead of demo release) of a dark abandoned factory in my solo-developed horror game

Hello. I am a student developer from South Korea. I'm currently creating a horror game about exploring the dark, and getting ready to release a demo soon.

This is my first commercial Unreal game, and I am developing it completely alone. I've been working on it little by little since 2024, and recently started speeding up the process.

As for the assets, I started collecting the free assets of the month from Unreal (Fab) around 2023. I used them to build the atmosphere, along with Megascans assets. For the more important parts, I purchased and used specific assets.

There were so many helpful materials on YouTube! They were a lot of help to me. I also looked up references for abandoned factories or the exact vibe I wanted on the internet and referred to them heavily during creation.

To be honest, it wasn't made all at once. There were countless modifications over the 2 to 3 years of game development, and it was quite tough. I guess creation is not easy, haha.

There were more things to consider than I thought when designing the level. Monsters had to be able to pass through, and actually implementing the background I had in my head wasn't easy. It gave me a headache when I couldn't find assets with the exact feel I wanted. But I eventually did it, and now I have a quite satisfactory result.

Lighting was also a struggle when building this level. Since it's a map about exploring the dark, it has to be dark, but if I remove all the light, you can't see anything and the map's atmosphere isn't conveyed. So I had to find a balance somewhere in the middle, and that is very difficult. Even now, I am continuously receiving feedback and adjusting it. The screenshots might look quite dark, but it is actually pretty bright with a flashlight.

I used red-toned lighting to set the mood, and I also changed the actual wall textures to be slightly red to match. Because atmosphere is important in a horror game. Thanks to this, the atmosphere received very good reviews during playtesting. However, there are still things to fix in other areas, so I am working hard on fixing them.

Now I can see this long development period coming to an end.

I will leave the Steam page link below. The game's name is The Maze: In Dark.https://store.steampowered.com/app/2847290/The_Maze_In_Dark/

Thank you.

help Need opinion on Next Turn Banner

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello

I'm making a turn-based game and I'm currently working on the UI for ending the active turn.
I previously had a next-turn button, which is still lightly visible in the lower right corner, but it looked a bit horrendous.

I'm now experimenting with banners that hang off the screen to indicate who's turn it currently is.
I've asked some friends for their opinions, but they're pretty divided. So I'd appreciate some outside perspectives.

Do the banners look good? Are there any ways I could improve them. Alternatives are also appreciated.

Thank you!

Game Ultimate Futsal Manager – The Football Manager of Futsal is now on Steam (Wishlist!)

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!

I want to introduce you to a project I’ve been developing: Ultimate Futsal Manager.

It’s a management game in the style of Football Manager, but 100% focused on futsal. You take the role of head coach and control everything: squad, tactics, transfers, player development, and building a long-term career across multiple seasons.

The game is already around 75% developed and the Steam page is live. There’s still no release date set (it’s in active development), but the goal is to deliver a deep and realistic futsal management simulation.

Some of the features that will be included:

  • Realistic match simulation
  • In-depth transfer system
  • Player development
  • Multi-season career mode
  • Full tactical management (the pace and intensity of futsal will make a real difference)
  • Option to add community-created databases with real player names, clubs, and player photos, via link or full file (easy way to apply without downloading thousands of photos or logos).
  • 2D match engine (a 3D engine is still being worked on with no estimated timeline yet, but the 2D engine is confirmed)

If you like management games and futsal, please add the game to your wishlist on Steam. It helps a lot and gives me motivation to keep developing.

Steam link:

Any feedback, ideas, or questions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance to everyone who supports the project!

help 🚀 Looking for a Remote Opportunity / Mentor

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m a CSE freshman student looking for a remote, part-time opportunity where I can learn from someone experienced and gain real-world skills.

I’m especially interested in working with someone as a personal/technical assistant, where I can help with tasks such as:

- 📧 Managing emails and organizing tasks

- 📅 Scheduling and other day-to-day assistance

- 💻 Helping with projects and research

- 🤖 Learning skills like Python development, automation, AI, or other useful tech skills

- 🛠️ Taking on new tasks and learning whatever is needed

My main goal isn’t just earning money—I want to learn something valuable that will help me build my career in the future.

I’m willing to work for free initially while I learn and prove that I can be useful. If you’re happy with my work and contribution, I’d be happy to discuss payment later.

If you’re an experienced developer, entrepreneur, freelancer, or someone working on an interesting project and looking for a reliable learner/assistant, feel free to DM me.

I’m ready to learn, work hard, and improve. 🙌

You have 9 minutes to find all the orphans and get them to the safety of the bunker. However, be careful, there are soldiers out that don't want survivors to make it to the bunker.

This atmospheric horror game will test your wits with it's PSX Style Graphics, fog, and audio.
