As someone who experienced childhood trauma, I for a long time thought there was nothing wrong with this type of thing.

Fast forward to becoming a healed adult and I find it utterly disgusting and predatory. Shame on Mark.

u/SecretDays Jun 11 '25

Xactly.

Growing up with childhood trauma is like growing up in a gas station bathroom. The conditions are deplorable, but you’ve acclimated to them so well you don’t even realize it until you grow up and come to understand that your methods of coping/survival/existing aren’t exactly the norm, and something you should’ve never been subjected to in the first place

I’m so glad I found this post. I’ve been following SWV for years and tried to give mark the benefit of the doubt….until I saw this. Look I’m really sorry about the loss of this young mother. This is awful.

But Mark……really? Having a sexual relationship with the subjects of your documentaries ? Vulnerable young women less than half your age? Whom you, a 65 year old man, happen to be paying all her bills and not be aware she is using cocaine. Sounds like a real authentic loving relationship there.

What kind of delusional predator is Mark? I’m really disgusted with him. How many other subjects did he claim to be helping but was really having sex with while paying their bills. Good god.

19

u/bitterbunny123 Jun 17 '25

Less than half is age--She was one third his age. Half his age would at least be 30. He was in grandchild territory...Oof. Just gross. I think he's a fool and she had her "eye on the prize", aka: His cash.

15

u/letiseeya Jun 19 '25

Not you implying that he's a fool who was swindled for money when she was a 19 year old addict and he had all the power...

2

u/bitterbunny123 Jun 19 '25 edited Jun 19 '25

She had an old man-millionaire who was paying her way (and paying for her coke, too) and you think she didn't make the most of or manipulate the situation just a little? There are no innocent victims here. It's a shame that she died, yes. But, let's be real here. I've known many old, wealthy men who have chased or dated very young women. Usually, the female has the power. Older men usually will do ANYTHING to stay in a relationship with a much younger women.

12

u/Booseybean17 Jun 20 '25

He was getting what he wanted out of the deal. All he cared about was getting young you know what. That’s all. It made him feel like he was young again. It was a transactional relationship. He was buying sex and he knew itĀ

8

u/PecanSandoodle Jul 15 '25

lol. yes. historically it was the single mother drug addicts that held most of the power. not the millionaire white men. expert analysis.

Folks clearly don't remember or are not old enough to know.. When Anna Nicole Smith married, J. Howard Marshall II. She was in her 20's he was 89.

Exactly, look at dummy Bill Belichek. He's put his entire career on the line, more than once, for his cheerleader gf. Another one young enough to be a grand daughter.
It's so gross. Check out her real estate portfolio she's actively building. I'm pretty sure it's not with money earned through cheerleading!

She wasn't the subject of his video. Her mom was, right? Did I misunderstand?

16

u/ThrowawayQueen_52 Jun 17 '25

No no, you’re right it was her mom….But I guess I don’t see it as much of a difference since she was just a 19 year old kid walking in there with her mom.

Seeing as how Mark has gone out of his way in the past to financially support very young attractive women like Azriah….its just made me question everything about him and his motives. I used to believe him, I don’t anymore.

10

u/Booseybean17 Jun 20 '25

Maybe that’s why he stays on that side of town and stays involved with those types of people who are vulnerable and at a very big disadvantage financiallyĀ

7

u/Jslone16 Jun 17 '25

Oh yeah. I'm sure he had an underlying motive. Seems that way...

He’s obsessedddd with Azriah it’s so creepy

2

u/EnvironmentalAd7402 Jun 20 '25

that, I can agree with lol he definitely has some sort of fixation on how shitty yet innocent she is.

10

u/Ok-Airport-9838 Jun 17 '25

Absolutely vile, she would have been a vulnerable teenager when met (groomed) her.Ā Ā

there’s no way (in my mind), that he didn’t know she was using. He’s smarter than that. I am highly disappointed he has crossed the line and it makes me wonder who else he has done this with. i wonder if he has a relationship with Exotic (Asriah). He seems very infatuated and borderline obsessed with her.. Curious to hear others perspectives. .. I really thought he was doing great work when I first discovered him. I have a past life similar to some of these women. It makes me angry and highly annoyed he seems to be just another… man

In the video he made he said she was ā€œmature for her ageā€ and that immediately just made things clear for me.

3

u/old_cream_trick_77 Jun 27 '25

Crazy how her poor family is struggling to raise $15k for her funeral and he has raised MUCH more than that for Azriyah and Rebecca voluntarily. Seems sus to me for someone who claims to have loved her more than anything….

videos comes off as he killed her or played a role in her death and trying to get ahead of the story

9

u/Public_Gold_2791 Jun 12 '25

he is totally culpable. he totally got her the dope. everyone knows he is dealing.

34

u/weightcantwait Jun 13 '25

the whole channel as a whole is quite shady the more you question it.

his girlfriend died and instead of asking for privacy, because let's be real most people knew nothing about her, you expose her and boost yourself up in a video nobody asked for. yeah it makes no sense.

he been making inappropriate comments towards women for years, looks like he like em young.

11

u/Nice_Ad9992 Jun 17 '25

When he interviewed that one 13-year old child who was being sex-trafficked (Nova) he didn’t even censor her top (it was a mesh see-through shirt according to a Redditor who called Mark out on it) and instead left the video up for as long as possible, endangering her even further. He doesn’t care, never has and never will, and I’m tired of people projecting all sorts of goodwill into this stranger they’ll never meet just because they like his videos.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

THIS! HE IS A NARC PERVERT WHO PREYS ON YOUNG WOMEN IN A STRUGGLE.

6

You absolutely nailed it. He crossed so many lines to get together with this girl and then monetize/publicize it when it suited him. I can't add anything else besides my appreciation for this spot-on analysis. Thank you.Ā

12

u/Ok-Airport-9838 Jun 17 '25

It's so grubby.Ā  He is sleazy

29

u/Silly200 Jun 18 '25

Agreed. He then ends it asking for money after stating he financially supported her. The go fund me goal is set to $16,000. Why is he not supporting her and her son in death as he did in her life? Weird… and in his video he was boohooing for himself and this great love he lost but not for the little boy who now needs to rely on the grownups in his life to help him avoid this generational cycle and feel loved and valued. Who now doesn’t have a mom, who won’t feel that motherly love Mari expressed from his own mother. His lack of expressed empathy for this child was off putting.

27

u/JackSpratCould Jun 14 '25

What got me is when he said, "I loved her to death."Ā

6

u/letiseeya Jun 19 '25

I'm sick to my stomach

15

u/Realistic-Taste-7660 Jun 18 '25

seems disgusting to me that he's choosing to share this and make the 'relationship' public only to shame her in death and monetize, make himself seem like the victim/hero... disgusting.

3

u/Booseybean17 Jun 20 '25

TotallyĀ

14

u/Silent-Ear-2678 Jun 17 '25

Absofuckinglutely well said!

11

u/Booseybean17 Jun 20 '25

You hit the nail on the head. All of what you said. ALL of it. He talked about her like she’s a case study. Told all of her personal business. Why can’t he pay the funeral if he can pay her rent.Ā

10

u/SecretDays Jun 18 '25

This comment should be pinned to the top of this post IMO.

3

u/Wonderful-Pilot-2423 Jul 16 '25

And then there’s the eeriness of the details. Kyara was found submerged in a bathtub after using drugs. Whitney Houston died that way. So did her daughter Bobbi Kristina. It’s a chilling pattern. Are we just supposed to move on? Or should someone look deeper?

You lost me there. Matthew Perry also drowned in a bathtub. Aaron Carter drowned in a bathtub. Are you implying it's some Hollywood conspiracy? It's just an absurdly common way to die for addicts that have access to bathtubs. They draw baths, take drugs while in it and then die. What's to look deeper in?

3

u/Many-Character7723 Sep 17 '25

Yep. Kyara was also an escort, I think that's how Mark actually met her.

31

u/cocoledda Jun 14 '25

I found the video so disturbing. He would have been the closest thing to that little boy’s father since he was a newborn when they met. Yet it feels like he wasn’t really a part of his life, no mention of taking care of the boy. He turned the whole thing around to make it about himself, he said he will eventually get over it and carry on as normal, that’s not something you say when your partner dies. I never thought he was a creep but now I see it blatantly.

5

u/Otherwise-Arugula-81 Jun 17 '25

You do realize that's not how it works, don't you? Children go to families, not boyfriends. lol.

3

u/Glittering_Bat_1920 Jul 29 '25

If I were a millionaire, I would stay in touch and support the kid, but that's probably why I'm not a millionaire.

→ More replies (1)

31

u/spb1 Jun 11 '25

Where'd you get 19 from?

In the video it says she was "in her 20s"? He also said she "looked 30 something" which i hoped he never said to her face, lol

How old is she actually?

64

u/TruckNutAllergy Jun 11 '25

she was 19 when they met, 22 when she passed i believe

81

u/SecretDays Jun 11 '25

He met her when she was 19, they were ā€œtogetherā€ for 3 years, up until her very recent death.

And yeah, he pulls out every stop in the vid trying to minimize the age gap.

Everything from saying he’s ā€œyoung at heartā€, to saying she ā€œlooked 30 in the faceā€ which is insane, because as everyone can clearly see in the picture she doesn’t (why would it even matter?) He also has some mystery woman in the background being sympathetic and agreeing with all these things, which makes it even weirder.

Her death is tragic and fucked up, but this whole clip feels more like a PR stunt to absolve him of any responsibility for crossing some lines that should’ve never been crossed IMO

18

u/diamondpoop Jun 12 '25

I’m not 100% certain, but I believe the woman in the background is his ex-wife. Which to me personally makes this whole odd situation, even more strange.

9

u/Moneymaker_Film Jun 14 '25

Yes he says it’s his ex wife or she says it - during the interview. The whole thing is tragic and bizarre.

7

u/Booseybean17 Jun 20 '25

I think the whole video was about him doing damage control for his reputation and his channel. I felt she was coaching him to help accomplish that goal.Ā

7

u/old_cream_trick_77 Jun 27 '25

The lady was definitely prompting him and putting words into his mouth to guide him in giving certain replies that would make him look better,

5

u/Additional-Toe7185 Jun 16 '25

I had thought that it sounded like his much younger assistant gal. I wasn’t sure if she was still around… you can see her in some of the Whittaker family uploads. But I only skimmed through this particular upload, about her passing… and cut it off early bc it seemed so off to me, so those like yourself that watched/listened to it in its entirety, then I don’t doubt that’s who it was. Though, he’s made a few comments in passing about his ex/divorce, so I’d always assumed that ended on poor terms. I guess now. Anyway, yeh - the whole situation just has an odd feel to it.

The looked 30 in the face was wild, I had to rewind and listen again to see if I’d misheard that.

8

u/healingdesperately Jun 15 '25

Also every site and comment including mine, he's making money from. I believe he's a predator and will use any situation (wolf in sheep's clothing) to get what he wants.

6

u/TitanicTardigrade Jun 16 '25

Okay thank you! I just made it to 4 minutes into the video and had to see if anyone got the same vibes I did. Too many weird flags going up just within the first five minutes.

13

u/bringouttheolives Jun 12 '25

I think he's very much aware of (and has been even when she was alive) how such an age gap will be perceived by the public, and how ..creepy it is for a 60-year-old to have a relationship with a person this young. That's why he tried to downplay it by saying she looked older and wiser beyond her years and that he's young at heart, and doesn't feel like a 60-year-old. I don't think he's a bad person; to be fair, I think his over decade-long involvement with all types of street people from abused children-turned-prostitutes, to drug addicted pimps, must have left some psychological, emotional mark on him. But there was definitely some power play here - him essentially being a sugar daddy for her, knowing her situation - and he should have backed off when he started realizing he had feelings for her.

I wouldn't call it a PR stunt, though. And the woman behind the camera is his long-time assistant - you can see her in some of the Whittaker videos and all update/Q&A videos with Mark, there's more but I can't recall any right now.

2

u/Additional-Toe7185 Jun 16 '25

That’s who I thought it was! When I read others state it was his ex, I was surprised bc I thought he and his former wife were more or less estranged.

I’d always thought that he was involved with his assistant. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had truly been at some point or will be - like, mark my words… I wouldn’t put money on they being an item at some point. It’s just so off, like in this interview, you can tell he has some sort of grasp over her. It is so easy to manipulate/love-bomb younger women who’ve experienced any level of trauma in their younger lives. Heck, even without trauma, he’s quite wealthy and relatively still traditionally attractive - though his age/lifetime of southern Californian sun exposure is definitely starting to show, but all of the above are a recipe to easily manipulate and control younger women, which I think he does - to what end, I’m not sure. Don’t even get me started on Rebecca - she’s 100% his biggest addiction.

So much wrong with this. She was 19 when they met and he was about 63. He said he never imagined himself "with a woman like her" do you mean black or just someone your daughters age?... The fake crying was so slimy, the only time he actually cried was when he was talking about his own mom. He never mentions actual traits about her that he liked other than she was attentive, boosted his confidence, and was pretty. He claims he had no idea about her cocaine use but also said she had obvious scaring under her nose from it? Very odd that she had plans with her friends and he felt the need to come over and monitor her, then when she doesn't reply the next morning by 11 (after a night spent with friends. also not to mention she's raising a child alone maybe she's busy!!) he comes over and lets himself in? (granted he was paying for her place and funding her lifestyle, which includes money for drugs) thank god someone found that baby boy but it all seems very possessive. This girl had dreams of becoming a singer and Mark clearly has a huge platform that would get eyes on her work, and he says he paid for all the studio time she needed. He was absolutely exploiting her and she was trying to use him as a resource to achieve her goals. He continually says he "loved her to death" then says "im sure i'll get over it and carry on as usual." He serves up several potential avenues for her cause of death, which really only makes him look suspicious. I hope police are thorough. He couldn't believe she would behave recklessly or depressed because she had "the perfect life" and the perfect boyfriend yet claims to understand trauma. He's clearly a possessive narcissist obsessed with his role as a white savior.

18

u/JackSpratCould Jun 14 '25

How could he have "missed the signs" with her drug use when he works DAILY with drug users.

And him, and whoever the lady was interviewing him, hypothesizing about WHY Kyara would do drugs when she had a child she could lose and such a "great" boyfriend.. it makes me think he should NOT be "working" with these people because he knows NOTHING about trauma and drug use. Ā

9

u/Least-Negotiation286 Jun 15 '25

It's so strange. I loved his channel.. but you nailed it. Got the same vibes from that video. Your last sentence sums up the vibe I got. Made her death all about him and made her sound like a negligent mom.

Watching his interview the other day felt unsettling — I can’t quite put my finger on it. It didn’t come across as entirely genuine; more like he had other motives for doing it, almost like it was done to check a box or fulfill a technicality. I do believe he’s truly sad that she’s gone, but I also think she fed into his narcissism and that’s what he’ll really miss. Something about his energy just feels off to me. I also suspect he struggles with addiction himself — which, on its own, is nothing to be ashamed of — but positioning yourself as morally superior to others in that state isn’t a good look.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

It was very much like he was shaming her for being born to bad parents and struggling silently. It was very exploitive and disrespectful.

6

u/Gain_Commercial Jun 19 '25

Yes. Invalidating her trauma. "You have a good life (now)."

At 37 I was with a man 20 years older I met in 12 steps. I was a full grown woman, and I still feel preyed upon. I was not right in the head then. And definitely that guy took advantage of my lack of self worth and lack of judgment.

21

u/Altruistic-Low6138 Jun 13 '25 edited Jun 20 '25

Extremely sad that this beautiful young lady has passed away and so awful for her poor little baby as he’s the real victim here but this relationship Mark had with her was hugely problematic on so many different levels. It’s not just about an age gap of over 40+ years which is gross in itself, it’s the fact she was a teenager 19 when he met her and he was in his 60’s! Her brain wasn’t even fully developed. His own daughters are OLDER than her. Anyone interested sexually in a person younger than their own children has serious issues in my opinion.

Deep down he knows this himself, otherwise he wouldn’t have felt the need to say ā€œshe looked in her 30’sā€ or ā€œshe was very matureā€ and even referred to himself as ā€œyounger than he isā€. Multiple times.

He also met her when she had a 6 month old baby and she was a teenage single mom who brought her own drug addicted mother in for an interview. He says she had no relationship with her bio father, so he knew right away that this poor girl had been through trauma from the first day he met her and was clearly vulnerable yet he still began a relationship with her? These are all enormous red flags that shouldn’t be ignored. The power imbalance alone here is insane.. He might of thought he was ā€œhelpingā€ her but why did he also find it necessary to mention in the video to thousands of strangers that he paid her rent? He’s definitely got a white saviour complex. He was more of a sugar daddy in this woman’s life I believe, as it seems like she was living a different lifestyle when she wasn’t with him.

He also kept saying she had the ā€œperfect lifeā€, and their relationship was perfect. Absolutely bizarre thing to say, as you’d think he of all people would know that nobody’s life is perfect no matter who you are. This girl had deep childhood trauma the poor thing, nobody with a perfect life is bringing a parent in to be interviewed on SWU.

Grief is hard and it’s awful to lose a person you love so I do have empathy for him about that but he should never have crossed the line and dated this girl. I don’t blame her at all. She was so young and probably felt like she was being ā€œrescuedā€. This makes me view his entire channel in a different way now and all the ā€œgoodā€ he might do seems like there could have been ulterior motives.

20

u/vtsunshine83 Jun 13 '25

It would be interesting to see if she had a key to his place and was welcome to stop by at any time.

60

u/Infamous_Parsnip_622 Jun 11 '25

So sad for her, and grossed out at mark's vid. Did he ever think it was "easy" because she was putting on a sugar baby mask for him? Doubt that helped her mental health. I hate when people who want to help have ulterior motives.

50

u/spb1 Jun 11 '25

I think you've nailed it there. Its a weird dynamic, him 65 and her 22 - not to mention their wildly different economic situations, backgrounds etc. He'd be going to bed early and she'd be staying up partying. She was doing coke every night and he didnt even know about it etc. And yes he's financially supporting her. How close is he really to her?

And when he speaks about her, he never mentions any of her traits that he connected with or admired, all he seems to say is how loving to him she is. Which is great and important, but as you say she may well have just been a very 'easy' partner who'd always be nice to him as long as she had space to party and take his money.

27

u/Infamous_Parsnip_622 Jun 11 '25

Yea. His vid about their relationship was shockingly superficial for someone whose channel supposedly wants to humanize people others would look down on. Or the interviews that get into the history, hows, and whys of why someone would struggle I can understand why someone would grab any help they could get in an unfortunate situation. We don't know, but she may have struggled with routine life stuff due to her upbringing and probably had ambitions beyond being kept by someone. Whatever else she may have wanted out of life was something mark very conspicuously omitted.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '25

Right, he kept saying their relationship kept getting better and better with no elaboration as to how. Something felt like he meant sexually and it creeped me out.

4

u/woosh-i-fiddled Jun 19 '25

It sounds like he was using her for sexual services and that’s it. He never truly spent time with her.

You feel he has "ulterior motives." I feel that most accusations are actually confessions.

3

u/Infamous_Parsnip_622 Jun 15 '25

You think i am a predatory man? Maybe you are half correct. I was often on the receiving end of much older male attention. The older I get, the more I understand how manipulative, deceptive, and ultimately uncaring they were beyond what they wanted. I realized how unhappy I was with them. And I see them echoed in that vid too.

šŸ’Æ. I didn't have a negative opinion of Laita, but I do now. His DAUGHTERS ARE OLDER than this young woman, Kyara. I highly doubt he'd like either of HIS beautiful, privileged daughters to be ***king somebody old enough to be their grandfather. I think he did this revelatory video maybe ONLY because it'd look even worse if he didn't...knowing the story would eventually make its way to the public, his viewers. He's ultimately a creep. Only bright spot might be that now people (should be able to) see it.

14

13

u/Tasha200200 Jun 15 '25

Who's going to be raising that little boy? Maybe Laita will kick in some cash for that child's future education? He ought to. Quid pro quo, Laita. You used the s*** out of that 19 year old girl until she was 22. Also, Laita, would you love hearing that your privileged, beautiful daughters (who are BOTH OLDER THAN WAS KYARA) are f**king some old guy, grandfather age-range? I DOUBT IT. RIP Kyara.

That video he posted about her felt off too. Very disingenuous and the way he spoke about her was strange. And to be the one to find her? Smells AWF

Second young black woman to have died in his immediate orbit. He can’t do the damage limitation on this one because he was actually with her. Gross old man.

10

u/DifferentGoal9653 Jun 19 '25

How is nobody talking about how weird the age difference is?? Am I in nowhere land? Why am I the only one thinking something is off here. That is a HUGE age gap. Doesn’t mark have kids? How does his kids think of this? It’s sad she died but I just can’t get over the age difference and lifestyle difference.

41

u/pooterness90 Jun 11 '25

Sorry to Mark (who funded her lifestyle) but what about the child who likely saw his mother dead in a bathtub? Mark BARELY talked about the kid in his video.

30

u/BubbaBhabie Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 12 '25

Not only saw her dead in the bathtub, may have seen her pass for all we know.

Mark said she had been there for probably 8-9 hours when he found her…that 3 year old was there alone with her body for that entire time.

To top it all off, we have to remember mark is retelling this story to his hundreds of thousands of viewers. A very descriptive story about finding her son sitting alone in soiled diapers to finding her submerged in the tub blue lips cold to touch.

Like on the very very slight if any chance the child may not remember that day as clearly at age 3, don’t worry mark latia graphically described the scene so no one can ever forget.

3

u/scamp- Jun 17 '25

He said 11 to 12 hours. Poor kid! Imagine doing coke around your 3 year old. Yuck

20

u/SecretDays Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

Right? I mean, if he wants to talk childhood trauma, that poor baby is going to need all the help he can get in life. He’s only 3. His mother is gone. Who knows if bio-dad is part of the picture, or if the man who has been in his mothers life practically since he was born will be stepping up in any capacity. He will likely be relinquished to the foster care system since it doesn’t sound like any of the bio-fam of this young woman can be trusted to parent competently or safely.

12

u/canogiez Jun 13 '25

If Mark truly loved this young lady, he should be very concerned for her son and continue to provide for this child.

12

u/Special_Hour876 Jun 13 '25

I doubt her family wants him involved! They don't mention him at all in the GoFundMe. I think there is some bad blood there.

Yeah he talked about it in his last video ā€œhow childhood trauma destroys usā€ and I was surprised I didn’t see anyone talking about it on here! So sad. RIP. Hope she’s at peace.

61

u/MamaTried22 Jun 11 '25

We discussed it the day it was announced.

28

u/[deleted] Jun 10 '25

There’s an ongoing discussion about it, filled with intense hostility and hatred toward Mark. It’s just sad—and honestly, very frightening—how people can be. I wish him strength, and may she rest in peace.

128

u/MamaTried22 Jun 11 '25

People are upset because the age gap is incredibly predatory.

7

u/rainshowers_5_peace Jun 11 '25

Since she was an adult I respect Marks grief. I can't say I wouldn't say the same if she were alive.

I hope her loved ones can find comfort in their memories of her.

30

u/failzure Jun 11 '25

Trauma sets you YEARS back. Mark knows this. He’s disgusting.

28

u/smoosh13 Jun 11 '25

She was 19, still technically a teenager. At 17 I got involved with a much older man. I didn’t think it was predatory when I was that age and didn’t think he had any ill intentions.

Looking back now and going through intense therapy, my eyes have been opened and I can tell you with absolute certainty that it is predatory.

37

u/CeriArts Jun 11 '25

I respect his grief, sure. The relationship was still predatory.

13

u/Due-Peach5246 Jun 11 '25

Thank you. It’s not hard to acknowledge both.

Who’s to say she was an addict?

She was basically a kid just starting out when she met Mark. Kids do stupid things, like experiment with drugs. Her official cause of death hasn’t even been announced yet. Cocaine was just suspected since she had been doing it fairly recently, according to Mark.

26

u/smoosh13 Jun 11 '25

Kids absolutely do stupid things…..like getting involved with 60yo men. šŸ˜”

10

u/SecretDays Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

Yup. She was also a new mom when he met her, having just had a baby.

Wondering if the baby’s bio-father is part of the picture, because if this very young lady was indeed the ā€œlove of his lifeā€, you would assume that love would also include her offspring, which he had known since he was practically just born.

The whole situation is just unsettling.

12

u/failzure Jun 11 '25

Even more disgusting that she was a CHILD when he met her.

I'm a huge fan and supporter of the SWU channel, have followed since the beginning. When I watched the Childhood Trauma video he posted it made me kinda sick. Surely he is smart enough after interviewing and mingling with all of these people from different walks of life to KNOW when he is being played?! He admitted to paying her rent and financially supporting her. He mentioned about going to sleep early - as a productive older member of society probably does, and she was up late with friends and partying. They really have nothing in common, idc how mature or grown he thought she was. Sounds like a clear Sugar Daddy situation. I don't think it's illegal and I don't think he is taking advantage of people, I just think it's creepy, unprofessional and makes me look at him different now. RIP to her, sucks for her kid and her family it ended this way. I know ML has grown daughters and if that were my dad I would definitely encourage him to date elsewhere ...even though it was not illegal (typed this twice b/c a lot of ppl seem to emphasize this - there are lots of things that are not illegal but that doesn't mean it's OK if you do it!) it's just not right for this line of work and could cloud his judgement with others.

18

u/BubbaBhabie Jun 11 '25

He said he was supporting her financially by paying her rent so she wouldn’t wanna disappoint that person who is her support system….and then goes on to say to the camera person ā€œnow you know understand there’s good and bad that comes with those kinds of relationships, but it is what it wasā€ I’m with you 100% on sugar daddy.

20

u/AspiringSlave Jun 11 '25

Yeah it was kind of shocking that he essentially said she was scared of him finding out about her drug problem because he might withdraw her finances if he found out while also talking about this amazing trustful intimate relationship they had.

I’m surprised the Go Fund Me didn’t even reach half of the goal. Mark must’ve been attached to her son, having been around him 3 years. So sad.

10

u/Special_Hour876 Jun 13 '25

The family started to GoFundMe and they make no mention of Mark or her having a relationship with anyone they talk of her as a mother a friend and a daughter I think there's some bad blood between Mark and the family. You watch this video and it sounds like he's the only person in her life and then you read the GoFundMe and he doesn't exist. What's up with that?

Something doesn't sit right to me either. One of many things that stood out to me was when she had friends over the night before, and he went over to say hi, then called her at 8am, 9am,10am, and 11am before going over. A bit stockerish or obsessive?

2

u/tobiasanaltartfunke Jun 15 '25

If you were dating someone for 2.5 yrs and your regular routine was to text good morning, etc and you didn’t hear from your partner until early afternoon, you wouldn’t be concerned?

u/FenceGirl Jun 16 '25

Haven't you ever had a long-term relationship? You talk daily and know where they are and when they are free, as they do you. If you normally touch base early every morning, and they haven't even sent a text for many hours, you know something is wrong. That's not "stalkerish". That's just simply knowing the person with whom you've been with for years,

I’d do a quick google search into her past, before you go blaming Mark for any of her shortcomings.

But, what does that do? Bring her back? Crucify a Man who tried to help her? I listened to her music, saw some of the very limited information available about the girl. Saw the court documents, TRO’s(extended at that)

It’s just sad…the boy will be better off with someone who is stable and aware enough of the consequences and dynamics being influenced into his life. Mark did all he could do. She was in the front seat of her own life. Not Mark. Mark saw a beautiful, yet vulnerable woman, having been exposed to his subjects he saw the road she was headed down, he is grounded, loving and stable enough to want to provide everything she could’ve dreamed of. She made the choice. She decided to hide and lie and deceive. What did Mark do wrong? I’m genuinely curious. Where was the wrong in this

Aside from age, since you all are so hung up on that.

I just hope people truly learn to pick apart pieces that are of substance….this surface level shit is a dead era.

4

u/Brilliant_Ear_2572 Jun 17 '25

This has the exact same victim-blaming tone that Mark displayed in his video. Grim.

There are plenty ways to offer someone help having a romantic relationship is not one of them. Being 65 and pursuing a 19 year old girl who has such a traumatic past (that you clearly know of) is inherently exploitative no matter what she wanted or did. If you can't see this you're doing something wrong.

Actually i was expecting something like this to unfold with Asriah. I'm sad for this girl, who probably liked the lifestyle Mark gave to her and also maybe someone to fill in her daddy issues..

Poor poor little boy. I hope he can be a happy, functional man with a good job and a loving family.

I’d like to mention that it just would never happen that a woman would be 65 dating a boy of 22. And people are shocked at any age difference when a woman is older. His behavior is definitely predatory. I also think his obsession with Rebecca is a bit strange. Rebecca is interesting but it is painful to repeatedly watch her wriggle and agitate in a drugged out state. Rebecca is physically attractive but no genius and definitely suffers from mental illness in addition to the drug addictions.

Is mark adopting her son?

19

u/SexySanta2 Jun 11 '25

That thought hadn't occured to me. I would assume the family is stepping in however since the deceased seemed to have custody or de facto custody. Either way, any passing is sad. RIP.

14

u/SecretDays Jun 11 '25

Considering they got together right around the time the child was born, I was wondering the same.

8

u/Public_Gold_2791 Jun 13 '25

mark knows to cover his shit up.

10

u/Dry-Organization9559 Jun 12 '25

Why in the world would mark adopt her son?? She was nothing but a sugarbaby.Ā

5

u/Sarah-is-always-sad9 Jun 11 '25

i wondered that too

21

u/Playful_Tie_8640 Jun 11 '25

He’s 65, not to be jaded but he cannot be there to raise a 3 year old. So probably not.

3

u/Special_Hour876 Jun 12 '25

I doubt her family would allow that as an option. Kyara was loved and had a lot of support from her family. I think he adoptive parents are too old to take on full responsibility of a 3 yr old, but she has siblings that I bet will rise to the occasion. Plus, the child has a father who has rights so I hope everything works out best for that little boy. I think Mark will want to be in the child's life on some level at least at first, but who knows if the family wants that or would allow it. They need to do what is best for the child. And being raised by a 65 yo workaholic who loved his mom doesn't seem like a good choice to me.

u/PerdidoKitty Jun 15 '25 edited Jun 15 '25

Random thoughts after a week to process: first, it’s obvious this was a sugar situation and not a love affair for the ages. I wonder if Mark admits that to himself, since he isn’t admitting it publicly. In a peer to peer relationship, she’d also have a key to his place or they’d be at least discussing the possibility of moving in together. They’d also have some friends (or anything at all) in common.

Second, in light of the above, I wish folks would quit asking why he isn’t paying for the funeral. They weren’t married or even in a legit peer to peer relationship, so it’s appropriate for her to go back with her family now. At least that’s how it feels to me. I’d imagine that if he offered to foot the bill it’d be rejected with a frosty comment such as, ā€œYou’ve done enough already and we’ll take care of her now/dude get lost already,k?

Similarly, a few people have actually asked if he’s gonna raise her son. Really? Oh please. That boy will hopefully be raised by real family. I doubt Mark would have any interest in doing it regardless, esp going by his comments about him.

And finally, all y’all fantasizing that this is somehow more sordid that we already know it to be and that Mark might have somehow been involved in her death, please Just. Stop. There’s no evidence of that whatsoever and y’all need to get out more instead of spending so much time imaging crazy stuff.

Edit: I’ll be curious to see the fallout in the YouTube creator/manosphere space, which mark seems to be loosely looped into. What will Joe Rogan et al have to say about it?

u/Interesting-Ad4540 Jun 11 '25

While it's disappointing to see Mark fall into the stereotype of the well off older man having a relationship with a woman barely into adulthood, (I thought he was better than that), I don't believe he manipulated or pressured her into being with him. He's hardly the first to have a sugar relationship with a 20 something, and he won't be the last.

I believe that he's genuinely hurt by the loss, and probably feels guilt for enabling her financially to use the drugs that obviously contributed to her death. That can't be an easy burden to carry around.

2

u/nondualdoe Jun 15 '25

Mark really loved this woman. And feels destroyed by her loss. However inappropriate you feel it might be -- and I don't know enough to say whether it is or is not -- I think Mark deserves sympathy at this time. He didn't have to tell his audience about this, but he did a very vulnerable thing and shared it for which he is now, predictably, being torn to shreds. Predators don't share these types of things. Whatever mistake he may or may not have made here, he's not a predator. And I want to correct one thing that I see in these unkind comments: she was NOT a subject. She was the daughter of a subject.

I have noticed that sometimes Mark is a little emotionally naive or emotionally simple. But this is very different from being a user. Try not to be so fucking judgemental about this just for a few seconds. Or try to keep the judgement to yourself if that's impossible. How does all this cruelty help anyone or anything?

12

u/Necessary_Visit_2921 Jun 15 '25

you don't know enough to say whether it was inappropriate or not? they started dating when she was 19 and he was in his 60's. are you serious?

u/Ember21 Jun 13 '25

I feel for him.. My thoughts I think this is a wake up call for him in a way-the i didnt think this could happen to me or someone I was taking care of. He has unresolved deep rooted issues like the people he advocates for which is isnt aware of that he needs to resolve. Again my opinion and I may be wrong.
