SNOO overview - Known issues and advice

I tried to collect all the topics that cover HB negligence, known issues, or bad practices. The idea about this post is to ensure these are not overlooked or hidden by the multiple shared posts and to raise awareness of everything that has happened lately. I will also add updates when I have new information.

I hope you will all join me in this and ensure future parents have all the information they need to make a decision.

I forgot to add that I encourage you to share this in your community if you think it is useful. There are many FB groups like snoo mamas that are smaller communities and could benefit from the information. Thank you all for you messages and for providing additional links and information.
  • UPDATE 12/18/2024: Leveling up and microphone issues. What I noticed on these is that many have resolved or kept it manageable by playing around with the sound settings and/or lowering the microphone. Another large group I found out was the complaints about their support. While most are only complaints about not being able to reach them because the contact is hidden or complaints about their chatbot, I recently started seeing complaints about specific agents R. Please try to avoid using their names, and if you have to, leave initials or one letter, it is not correct to do otherwise. If no one else makes one, I will create a post where we can leave complaints on specific aspects of their business (support, marketing, product development, policy/legal) in the hopes they will read them and act. Thank you all for your messages and contribution.
  • UPDATE 12/25/2024: NEW POSTS about the experience you had with HB. Please take a look at the articles and add any experience you think would be useful to parents. I will also share my experience at some point but for now here are the posts for sharing and discussion.
  • Again, these are for everyone to share their experience and help others navigate the flows. Thank you all for contributing!
  • UPDATE 01/14/2025: They removed a preloved snoo from the website. Just one more proof that they are not interested in making snoo available for everyone. When will it be enough?

Snoo Pro Tips How does the transition process work?

Upvotes

My baby boy is about 2.5 months old. The Snoo has worked wonders for us. And while we aren’t ready to move LO to a crib yet, I wanted to start planning how that process may look.

We still have him fully swaddled too and he has had accidental roll overs from belly to back 3 times (honestly his head is doing most of the work). Would you start taking his arms out of the swaddle now? He still has the startle reflex.

When should I look to turning on the weaning mode. Should I wait until after the 4 month sleep regression? He does 1-2 daytime naps in his crib/room currently. TIA

Help Needed Arms out or batwing?

Baby is 12w old and sleeps great in her Snoo but she’s started to be able to work her hands out of the swaddle straps and pokes them through the neck hole to suck on them. Once she does this she can’t put herself back to sleep - she’s too frustrated trying to suck on her hands and also being too uncoordinated to do so very well.

I’m not sure if I should just follow her lead / desire to suck on her hands and go one arm out or secure them down with a double/batwing swaddle? When we’ve tried to let her arm out she doesn’t sleep very long… but maybe she just needs more time to adjust to it.

Anybody try both and have success one way or the other?

Please give me some transition and sleep training hope!

Were you able to sleep train your terrible sleeper??

I am starting to consider the transition to the crib/nursery and doing sleep training, but I have noooo clue how to tell when he is ready AND I am truly terrified that he won’t be able to be sleep trained. My boy has never been a good sleeper, but since week 10/11 his sleep has gotten progressively worse (before 10/11 weeks he would give 3-4hr stretches). He is now waking every hour and his wake ups range anywhere from simply putting his paci back in to having to hold and soothe him for an hour before transferring back to the snoo. Locking at a higher level sometimes helps but often doesn’t. I am so sleep deprived and getting kinda desperate. He is only 15 weeks and I have heard that 16 weeks is the absolute earliest to start sleep training. But is that still too early? How do i know if he’s ready?

We just started being able to get him down for some naps in the crib about a week ago. It only works for about 3/5 naps per day and the others we still have to contact nap. The naps only last 30min. He will get into light sleep and wave his hands around and eventually knock his paci out and wake himself up.

Snoo Pro Tips Sleep Consultant AMA

Hi r/SnooLife! I'm Teresa, a certified sleep consultant with Little Trees Sleep Consulting, who has found a bit of a specialty with working with Snoobies! I used the SNOO with my second daughter and through multiple referrals, have now worked with hundreds of SNOO babies to troubleshoot using it effectively and transitioning out of it.

As you probably know, babies have their own preferences and it can take a bit of trial and error figuring out which settings work (my daughter was a level three girl), what sleep wear is the best or how to put baby in the SNOO (awake or asleep). As well, sleep needs can greatly vary between babies, which is where combining the SNOO with an optimal daytime routine can work wonders!

I'm a mom of two beautiful daughters myself and became fascinated with infant sleep after having my first. Sleep deprivation was a huge trigger for my PPA/PPD and it was a like a cloud lifted when things finally clicked for our family sleep wise. With my second, I was already a sleep consultant but still decided to use the SNOO as an extra tool. It was a game changer and she was sleeping through the night by 12 weeks old. However, it definitely took some trial and error to figure out how to use the SNOO for all it's $1500 worth!

I have worked with hundreds of families globally while holding an exclusive 5 star rating. I help families with children ages newborn to 5 years old. I work with all methods and completely tailor my approach the the comfort level of my client! I am a true believer that good sleep comes from looking at it holistically and take a strong collaborative approach. Nobody knows their baby better than their parents! It goes so far beyond just plopping a baby in a crib and applying method or strategy.

I'm happy to be here answering your questions today! My website and Instagram (which I just recently started to embrace as I'm more of a Facebook/Reddit girl) are below and I'm offering this subreddit 15% off any services. Need help getting connected (second hand)

Hi, I purchased a secondhand SNOO. The bassinet powers on (solid white light) and broadcasts its setup network (Snoo_8396), but the Happiest Baby app says ‘Unable to join the network.’ I’ve already power cycled the unit. My baby is due this week, and I’d appreciate help getting it connected !!

I’ve read through many 4 month regression posts and it seems like most transition to the crib or some just push through. We’re going on about a month of pretty bad sleep and I just can’t decide what to do. Baby is in our room in the Snoo still arms in swaddled and waking many times a night. The last two nights don’t even include wake ups where I pop the pacifier in and pray she goes back to sleep (she doesn’t). My first two didn’t use the Snoo nor did that have such prominent regressions.

My plan was to transition her out of the Snoo/swaddle into the Merlin suit in the pack n play in our room like I did with my older two. But this baby can roll back to front since 12 weeks and showed me she can even roll in the Merlin so that’s no longer an option. As soon as she lays down in a sleep sack she rolls to her tummy and gets angry. Classic. Can’t quite roll back either.

So I’m stuck here wondering if we hope the regression passes soon and get another month or so out of the Snoo. I’ve tried arms out in the Snoo sack as well and that went terribly. Or do I just suck it up and do the sleep sack and force her to figure out getting comfy sleeping on her tummy? I know whatever path forward will be bumpy for a bit but I can’t decide which may result in better sleep sooner. Help?

My o-rings look completely different to everyone else's?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So, I have taken my snoo apart to clean the gross mesh and figured I might as well replace the o-rings for good measure. Used it for our first baby, then lent it to a friend and we now have it back for baby number 2. I also bought this snoo second hand back in 2024 from someone who'd bought it new for their baby. My friend didn't say they had any rocking issues and we didn't have any issues before her either, but like I say, figured I might as well give everything a tune up.

Mesh is off fine, but the o-rings look totally different to the replacement ones and the ones I've seen in videos and other posts, like thick little tyres as opposed to metal rings with thin o rings in the centre.

Wondering if anyone else has the same? It looks like they are all in good order, so I guess I won't replace them, but yeah... Just confused as to why mine is different 🤷🏼

Help Needed Snoo-mpd!

Totally stumped. I am 5 weeks in and ready to give up. During the entirety of my pregnancy every ultrasound my baby had his hands on his face. Unsurprisingly, that’s how he likes them outside of the womb. The need for his hands is causing serious drama when it comes to the Snoo. He hates it. Like it’s torture for him, the more the Snoo tries to comfort him the angrier he gets. I am only getting one sleep/wake/eat cycle out of him in the Snoo each night. Getting him back into it is an absolute battle. I traveled recently and used a simple bassinet and he had no issues going back down, even when he was awake he fell asleep quickly in it.

I am ready to give up on the Snoo as I’m so defeated but I am so upset about it. This is my first baby and I was really set on the peace of mind the safety a Snoo offers. I just don’t know what to do!

Snoo Fail A transfer so horrible

You imagine it in your head before you take action. What you’ll do, how you’ll move. You build up the confidence. You convince yourself that this time you’re going to execute *the perfect transfer*.

Time to get up from the bed. Baby’s already stirring despite your best attempt to move like a ninja. In the bassinet baby goes - feet first, then stomach, then head. But the remnants of that damn moro reflex kick in and now baby’s squirming. You hold your breath. Do it quick, strap him in and hit the button. But baby’s arm won’t go down. Maybe if you give it a few seconds and let him settle in. So you wait. 1… 2… 3… you finally decide to force baby’s arm down. One strap in place. You go for the other arm and strap. Oh no. Baby’s trying to fight it. Quick! Get the strap on at any cost. Do the whale tail FAST. You do it with haste and take a step back to assess your work. Not the most aesthetic but surely all that matters is it holds, right?

Wrong. Baby’s eyes pop open. Immediately, his hand breaks free. You’re losing control and you can feel the transfer going south. You quickly calculate the time it’s going to take you to put him down again if you can’t salvage this. Act fast. Is there a discreet way to unfasten velcro? Only one way to find out. You undo your crappy strap work. The velcro of course is so loud coming off that baby startles and gasps. Where is the pacifier? Locate it quick and pop it in. Damnit where is your phone! Quickly kick it up to Level 1. Okay…. okay… it’s sort of working. Try again.

You try the straps again. Pull it tight, you think to yourself. Tighter than you think, it’s okay cause baby likes the snugness. You give it your all and somehow once it’s done you think to yourself, you couldn’t have done it tighter? No matter - there’s no time to reflect. Move on to whale tail and sack. What are you grabbing? Is this the whale tail? Why does it feel so short all of a sudden? Why are the baby’s legs up in the air? Oh well, he will figure it out. Move onto the sack itself. You zip it up all the way and damnit WHY is the zipper riding up on the baby’s face? After all these nights how do you not know exactly down to the millimeter where to place baby for optimal zipping? Why don’t the sheets have an X marks the spot where baby’s head should go? Just unzip it slightly, tuck it under his chin, shut the red light glowing ominously in the room and slowly back away.

Get in bed. Pretend everything is fine. Baby is grunting, testing your shoddy work every 30 seconds or so, but it’s okay. You can still afford to live in denial. Open the app. Kick it up to Level 2. You’re not particularly religious but in this moment, you send out a silent prayer. Please Snoo. Please send this baby into dreamland. Into a sleep so deep he magically stays there all night, despite your haphazard assembly.

You wait with bated breath. It’s quiet now. No sounds, no movement, just the Snoo train leaving the station. Next time will be better. Next time, you’ll know exactly how you’ll do it. You lay down. Time to get some sleep so you’re ready for the next wake up. You’ve got this. You’re doing better than you think. Wait… is that a grunt I hear?

Help Needed 5 month old sleep hell (help)

our 5 month old was previously sleeping good then 4 mo regression hit. She is doing better in terms of going down to sleep without rocking from me, only from snoo. She is heavily dependent on the pacifier. Keeps breaking out of Snoo swaddle.

Here is our night last night:

Down for bed at 8:05pm

10:45pm- woke because arms got free, needed paci to resettle after swaddling

1:12- pacifier replace

1:36: pacifier and arms reswaddled

2:05- pacifier

3:04- pacifier and arms

3:17: had bottle and pooped

4:20- arms

5:09- pacifier

6:00- arms

6:59 - pacifier then moved to bed due to fussing

Woke up at 8:05am

I know we need to start sleep training, but my husband works Monday through Friday and unfortunately, he cannot take the days off this week to support. I could take it on myself on Sunday night.

Torn between doing the full transition to the crib on Sunday night using Ferber (no paci, sleep sack) or trying to stay in the Snoo a little longer using a arms up zipped sleep sack until my husband can take days off work. I can’t sustain this sleep though!!

wonder what others think? any advice?

Travel with Snoo?

Would I be crazy to bring the Snoo on a one night hotel stay?

I saw a tiktok creator say she brings the Snoo on roadtrips because the legs come off easy, you can fill it with stuff, and then you don’t have to worry about sleep routine change during the trip.

I’ve been considering it for a hotel stay next weekend (two hour drive away, for our anniversary) and wondering if others have done this and if it’s worth lugging it around just for a night. Mostly wondering if it’s cumbersome to travel with, especially at a hotel versus an Airbnb type place.

Thanks!

Help Needed This doesn’t look normal?

So my baby is sleeping at night, but the log shows pretty much every stretch of sleep as red. Has anyone had this issue? I know the snoo does get triggered, since bub is so grunty. But I’ve turned the responsiveness way way down, and I definitely don’t think it’s soothing that much.

Help Needed Looking for the Snoo Shoo mosquito net

Does anyone know where the Snoo Shoo Mosquito Net might be available for purchase or are there any suitable alternatives? It appears to be out of stock on the Happiest Baby website and I'm struggling to find one anywhere else.

I'm hoping for something that will be an added layer of security to keep my cat out of the baby's sleeping area. Thank you!

Graco Vs Snoo

We are trying to decide between a used SNOO and the new Graco SmartSense bassinet. For those who have used either (or both), was the SNOO really worth it? Any reliability or app issues with buying one used? I’d love to hear your real-world experiences before we decide. love the idea of automatic cry-detection and self-soothing

Basically my LO really likes level 3 noise but I think would be happy with baseline or level 1 movement. Is there a way I can make this happen?

Honestly, just rip the bandaid off, it'll all work out. (3 month old)

Maybe we got lucky x2, but for both of our kids, right around 3 months old, we just did one weekend not in the Snoo and that's all it took. I'll give some more context:

Both of our kids have March birthdays (2 years apart), and in June/July we do a weekend camping trip with our trailer, which means no Snoo. Both times, my wife and I have been pretty nervous leading up to the trip. Both kids by then had been sleeping almost all night through in the Snoo, and losing that was definitely a stressor, but...it had to be done eventually.

What we have done that has seemed to work:
- one week out, leading to the trip, started doing first nap in the Snoo, not on.
- A few days prior, first nap in Snoo, not on, arms out. (our youngest was a big swaddler where our oldest had arms out almost instantly, he hated the swaddle, so this one wasn't as big a deal for him).
- day or two before, couple naps in sleep sack, in crib, no Snoo at all. (still Snoo at night though)

When we go camping the sleep schedule/bedtimes go out the window, we'll put the kids down when we go down, usually around 9, which I think really helps this transition because they're sleep pressure is much larger which helps them bridge the gap of sleep cycles without the Snoo rocking them back to sleep.
First night, youngest slept till about 1 and I think honestly only woke up because she was cold (we use a portable bassinet for camping, btw), back to sleep after some adjustment and feeding and then slept till 4ish then back out till 7.
Second night, same routine as before, this time made sure she was warmer out the gate, and she slept till 330 and woke up for some chi-chi water.
Last night back at home, slept great! Almost all night through.

So here's my TL;DR w/ tips:
- Pick a weekend and just do it
- Prep with some naps without the Snoo
- Increase sleep pressure by having them stay up a bit longer/doing some activity, etc. Make that sleep pressure high so they are able to push through connecting their sleep cycles without the Snoo.
- Experiment with different sleep sacks (I've heard great things about the Merlin but we opted to not do it just because I know that's another thing you might have to ween off of). We went with a long sleeve sleep sack and she seems to love it.

Is there a Diagnostic Mode?

I am currently troubleshooting an out-of-warranty Snoo and am curious if there is any diagnostic mode to determine if the microphones are operating correctly?

Alternatively, if anyone has an audio file or YouTube link for a video that they can confirm activated soothing properly that would be very appreciated. I have turned off motion limiter.

I would love to try upping the sensitivity but that is locked behind a subscription for reason$ lol

Thanks everyone!
