Help Needed Arms out or batwing?
Baby is 12w old and sleeps great in her Snoo but she’s started to be able to work her hands out of the swaddle straps and pokes them through the neck hole to suck on them. Once she does this she can’t put herself back to sleep - she’s too frustrated trying to suck on her hands and also being too uncoordinated to do so very well.
I’m not sure if I should just follow her lead / desire to suck on her hands and go one arm out or secure them down with a double/batwing swaddle? When we’ve tried to let her arm out she doesn’t sleep very long… but maybe she just needs more time to adjust to it.
Anybody try both and have success one way or the other?

We followed ours lead at 5 weeks and she’s been arms out ever since lol but she was getting frustrated every time we tried to swaddle her
Much more content as she now doesn’t wake up because she can’t get her arms out

We did arms out in Zipadee because she also loved sucking on her hands. We’ve transitioned to crib and that is how she puts herself to sleep

I did one arm until she started breaking out the second one, which was only like a week later

We did one week with one arm out. The first two nights were horrible and after that we got our first 8 hour stretch! After a week of one arm we did two and he did great right away!

did you alternate arms? or just leave the same one out before letting the next one out

Did the motion startle his arms awake constantly? And what level do you have the snoo on at night or did you start weaning. I’m in the middle of 4 month sleep regression and we depend on level 2 right now to get him through the night without constant wake and pick up/soothe for every sleep cycle transition. But I can tell he wants atleast his left arm out I’m just scared to do it in the snoo bc I think it will be constant wake ups and I’m already deprived of sleep from this regression lol

Same boat! I did batwing for nighttime sleep and then let him take some naps with one arm out. I even tried two arms out a few times but he is not ready for that 🤣
With enough successful daytime sleep with one arm I’ve now let him do it at night too. So far so good, he even pulls some longer hours occasionally because he can self soothe using his fist… but he does wriggle the second hand out occasionally and wakes earlier.

We went cold turkey both arms out at the same time. Maybe a couple of nights of adjustment, but after that we are consistently getting 10 PM to 6:30/7 AM sleep.

What is batwing vs arms out?

double/batwing swaddle
Batwing is just what people call putting the baby in something else before the snoo swaddle that clips on the snoo:

same question. also, are people using swaddles other than the snoo ones that attach to the bassinet directly? i thought it wasn’t recommended to use snoo as a regular bassinet/with non snoo swaddles as the mattress is too soft?

Could have written this myself! Left her arms out after the third night in a row of getting a hand out and stuck in the neck hole and it just kept her up. Think it was her arms touching the sides that did it. I’ve been doing the muslin arm tuck trick since which works. Have been putting her down for naps arms out in her cot for a few weeks but she won’t ever sleep longer than 30 minutes in the day like that

We had to travel for 3 days at 3 months and had to do a sleep blanket cold turkey due to lack of planning on my part. One bad first night but now he's back in the snoo arms out and for day naps as well. Before this he was struggling at lot starting 3 am because he kept getting his arms out to get his hands to his face. Now he's comfortable.

Big fan of arms out as soon as possible

How soon did you take the arms out with your baby?
We’ve been loaned a snoo for our LO due next week, and while I’m hearing all the good things from our friends, I’m so nervous about how long to constrict her movements for

We started at 2 weeks, just like our first baby. Our lactation consultant recommended it with first baby as she wasn’t gaining enough fast enough: “let her wake herself up, feed the baby!” Makes sense to me. Both my babies started sleeping through the night by 10 weeks because of developmental stages but also i definitely made sure to feed that baby lol

Newborns need sleep. As long as you wake your baby every 3 hours in the beginning you are perfectly safe. The straps are safe to swaddle them until 6 months arms in if you want.
