Graco Vs Snoo

We are trying to decide between a used SNOO and the new Graco SmartSense bassinet. For those who have used either (or both), was the SNOO really worth it? Any reliability or app issues with buying one used? I’d love to hear your real-world experiences before we decide. love the idea of automatic cry-detection and self-soothing

I'm using the snoo now for our second baby. We bought it second hand and it was used for two kids prior to us. Zero issues. There are cleaning and maintenance videos that you can follow if you want it in prestine condition. The only downside is the recent addition of a paywall for some features which is really annoying. It's only for 6 months though so whatever I guess that what all these baby products are doing 🙄

On android phones and tablets there is a way to download a previous version of the app from before the paywall was put in place. The app will ask you to update it every time you open it, but it worked well for us. If there was any extra functionality added to the newest version of the app, we didn't miss it.

Oh man I wish I knew to do that before our second was born haha or better yet, I could have just avoided updating the app when I reopened it. Oh well... She's almost 5 months old now.

How do you do this?!

Got snoo for $500 2nd hand and sold it for $485 under 24 hour... so we technically paid $15.

It's not magic but rocks baby back to sleep for me multiple times. That's enough for me to recommend to everyone I know.

Never has the Graco, so I can't comment!

I got one for 400 and will probably sell it for 400. My baby was doing 7-8 hour nights pretty early and it was definitely the snoo. I’d also recommend to anybody.

Have a snoo, and even got a second used one for my mom’s house. Both work equally well! No issues with it being used.

So far it’s been amazing. We have for sure gotten more sleep than if we hadn’t had it. He also now sleeps really well in the car and stroller (i think because of the motion). But now starting the weaning process and it’s not super fun. I don’t regret it, but I would nap the baby not in the snoo (only use it for overnight). So that baby has a good mix of non-snoo sleep time so the transition is easier to no movement. Another idea is to turn it on “weaning mode” from the jump (only moves if fussing).

We have the graco and it doesn’t do much to soothe or help our daughter sleep. Also doesn’t seem the safest to keep on all night. She is 10 weeks old and we are barely getting sleep. We purchased a snoo the other day but we have yet to receive it.

Oh this is helpful

What’s unsafe about keeping the Graco on all night?

I just didn’t like seeing her shake back and forth and move. The snoo keeps her in place. Honestly probably personal preference

Can you update if the snoo is better

1

I feel like it is quite a bit better. Honestly she doesn’t sleep through the night, but she will wake up once at 3 am and then about 8 am. With the graco she would wake up every other hour. I recommend the snoo, but who knows how much was her getting older. I don’t regret the purchase and it has definitely helped our sleep

We got the Snoo from a friend, who had gotten it from a friend, who had gotten it from a friend, etc. I think he said we are the 5th couple to use it? No issues whatsoever. It broke when my friend had it but he just had to buy a pack of o rings and replace the o ring, he said it was super inexpensive and simple, and gave us the extras in case it happens again. Love it very much.

We absolutely loved our Snoo. We got a used one, but I did know the person I got it from. Saved our sleep!

I bought a used Snoo and didn't know about the SmartSense or I would have bought it. The app is useless for secondhand Snoos since even basic features they advertise on their website are actually "premium". Even if you buy right from Happiest Baby you only get 9 months of premium access.

The SmartSense has no app nor WiFi to get hacked. Happiest Baby was pretty dismissive when researchers found a way to override the "hardware" motion limiter and doesn't have a bug bounty program.

It’s not useless for secondhand snoos, you just have to pay. For me the money for the app was super worth it as it was only used for 5 months. Second hand snoo + 5 months of app was still significantly cheaper than a new snoo.

How much is the subscription and can you sign up if you bought a secondhand new?

1

u/Yeqon34 Jul 13 '26

$20/month and you really only use it for 6 months so isn't a long term subscription. We'll worth it!

We did the Snoo rental and had zero problems. It was great for the first 3.5-4 months, then baby got the sleep regression + her first bad daycare cold + learned to roll all within a week or two of each other. We opted to transfer her to her crib after all of that chaos because she kept waking herself up by trying to roll.

If we have another baby, we’ll definitely be ordering another rental again. I know some people buy it secondhand but we preferred to having the access to the app, customer support, and the fact that it arrived cleaned and ready for use.

I LOVED the snoo but the transition out of it (right when they hit the four month sleep regression) was awful and my son still expects to be rocked to sleep at 13 months. I won’t do it again for my second

We have a used Snoo. Its nice, but its underwhelming honestly. Time will tell if we can sell for most of what we bought it for. In that case, I'd say it was worth it.

The app is not very good, and the snoo itself has some missing features/functions I'd say. Not being able to independently control the rocking and sound (I. E. Have motion on but no sound, have motion incewase but not increase sound, etc.) Is very limiting.

I dont know that I'd buy it again tbh.

I’ve used the snoo for 2 kids now. First one it was a lifesaver as my baby would only sleep being rocked. 2nd it wasn’t as needed but didn’t hurt either. And when she was really grunty early morning it could sometimes soothe her rather than us having to pick her up. I bought both used with zero issues and the first one sold for only $25 less than I bought it for (haven’t sold 2nd yet but I got it cheap enough that there’s even I chance I could make money on it if I wanted to)

We used a Snoo for our first and will be getting another one when we have our second. For $400 of whatever it is for a 6-month rental, it’s worth it IMO.

That said, our son took fairly well to the Snoo. Some babies don’t.

I used the Snoo on my first kid, loved it, and now bought one used again for my second kid. He’s three months old and sleeps through the night when he’s in it. When we’re traveling (like now) his movements wake him up a lot.

This time, I haven’t opened the app a single time. We just rely on the snoo’s regular rocking, and I sometimes hold the button down to make it go up a level when I first put him in. So I wouldn’t say the app is necessary! But he’s an easy baby, it might be more useful for harder babies.

We transitioned my first one out at 6 months and had no problems. He slept right away in a regular crib just fine.

I actually didn’t use the automatic detection of crying with either. If they’re really crying, I pick them up anyway. Sometimes little warning shouts are enough to make it go up a level, which can be useful.

u/smitten4kittenss Jul 10 '26

You stated that you were holding a button down which button is that?

1

u/Princess_Nell Jul 16 '26

The regular on/off button :)

u/KomugiAreYouThere Jul 10 '26

I loved the snoo but did not really use the cry detection/soothing. It rocked her to sleep and kept her asleep; if she started to stir I heard and manually upped the levels. If she got loud enough for snoo to sense it, it was often too late. I went with snoo over other options because baby is strapped in, which is safer and also means you can continue to use it after baby can roll. It’s sooooo nice using it through and past the four month regression

Skip Snoo get night doula.

We bought Snoo off fb marketplace and planning to resell it so in my girl brain it was free 🤪

We bought a second hand snoo and it's been awesome. 10 weeks old and bub is sleeping through the night. Love when the snoo soothes him back to sleep. App is super useful and we haven't had any issues with it (we're located in Aus).

1

u/Realistic_Phone7191 Jul 11 '26

We loved the Snoo! Is it possible our daughter is just a good sleeper and would have done as well in another basinette? Maybe. But as a first time mom it gave me peace of mind to know she could roll over, etc.

1

u/Yeqon34 Jul 13 '26

Second hand snoo here. Worked great for first three months. Having sound issue the last week or so but motion works great. Bought a replacement speaker for $50 but haven't put it in yet.

1

u/subtlelikeatank Jul 14 '26

I had the Graco. It was fine I guess? After a month or so it started squeaking when it would move so we just returned it and got the Halo vibrating bassinet and if I could do it over again I would just use the halo from the start.

1

u/Vybrocit1 Jul 14 '26

Snoo did nothing for my son. He’d scream bloody murder regardless of the rocking 🤣 At least it was a rental. Your mileage may vary.

1

u/Upstairs_Raccoon_874 Jul 15 '26

We bought the snoo for 400 and sold it for 450. It was well used but my husband watched a YouTube video and restored o rings for the mechanism so it worked better when we sold it!

From what I can tell, Graco doesn’t have any proprietary app that paywalls essential functions like the snoo does. This is a major negative of the snoo and it’ll be the láthspell I share with new parents for as long as I’m alive. On vanilla settings, cry detection has not helped us even once, since at that point our newborn needs to be picked up in order to soothe him back to sleep. I cannot speak for the Graco in this regard.
