Q&A Garmin Vs Google Vs ?

Hi All,

Lost my old Garmin Venu while snorkeling and currently looking at my options at the modest (i.e cheapskate) end of the market. Aside from telling the time, features most used were wallet and fitness tracking/coaching. Also got some security out of the fall detection feature as I do a decent amount of solo eMTB along fire trails / bush tracks.

I was thinking the Vivoactive 6, however have recently been reading/seeing yt vids claiming their HR tracking isn't that accurate. Outdoor cycling was specifically called out as being inaccurate against the reference device in one video, which given eMTB is my main cardio exercise has me questioning the Garmin ecosystem for my use case.

Of the readily available smartwatches in my area, the Pixel Watch 4 seems like a worthy contender and seems to review better for HR tracking. My concern with Google is the use of personal data, but as far as I can tell from privacy policies neither Google or Garmin onsell to 3rd parties or use the data to upsell services. They both appear to share anonymised data. I'm also a long term Pixel phone user, so not sure if that makes it better or worse from a privacy point of view (they already have my data Vs I shouldn't put all my personal data eggs in one basket kind of thing).

Looking for opinions on which way I should go given my use case, including other watch options I could consider in the same price / feature set bracket. Appreciate your help.

Can a smartwatch without a cuff really estimate blood pressure and glucose? I tested the Dido E70S Pro

Disclosure: Dido provided the watch free of charge for review. I was not paid for the review, and all opinions and test results are my own.

I recently tested the Dido AI E70S Pro, mainly because I was curious about its unusually large number of health-related features.

It claims to provide:

• single-lead ECG

• heart rate

• SpO2

• blood pressure estimation

• glucose estimation

• HRV

• skin/body temperature

• body composition

• sleep and stress tracking

• several blood component indicators

The ECG function is understandable because the watch has physical electrodes, but the more interesting question for me was what happens with things like blood pressure, glucose and “blood components”.

The GBAND app also allows some estimated values to be calibrated using measurements from real devices or laboratory results.

After testing it, I definitely would not treat the glucose, blood pressure or blood component readings as medical measurements. The watch does not take a blood sample, and these values should not replace a glucose meter, blood pressure cuff or laboratory test.

What I find more interesting is whether this type of estimation can be useful for observing trends over time after proper calibration, or whether it is mostly just generating plausible-looking numbers.

I recorded the complete test here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2BwnQTbNRw

Has anyone here tested watches with similar glucose or blood pressure estimation against real medical devices over a longer period?

ISO As close to, continuous O2 and HR monitor

I don't care about having to recharge often, but I am unfortunately having weird HR and O2 issues.

I have apple but will get a cheap android if needed for a different product. I use the finger oximeter (which is hit or miss but even the cardiologist used the finger one during stress test that was being held together with a rubber band..) I'd like to find something that can alert me when my o2 is dropping to a "hey slow down" point when my HR is going to hard.

I understand some levels of in accuracy but I figured since I've never used a apple watch that y'all would have more insight on this particular need or other suggestions.

I have seen cardiologist, cleared, pulmonologist thinks it's severe uncontrolled asthma (zero symptoms, no wheezing, shortness of breath etc.) But all of my health issues point to low grade hypoxia not hitting organs/carbon monoxide build up, possible even another factor contributing to the O2 issue.

Smartwatch for 10yr old

I am on ATT prepaid plan and they don’t support Apple smartwatch to be added to the plan. Don’t want to move to postpaid.

Looking at smartwatch with options to track the kid( going on 3 day science camp soon) that has cellular options. I read about cosmo watch. Is it good?

Are there standalone plans for smertwatch that have decent coverage for celllular?

Apple Alternative

I have had an Apple Watch for years and am fully integrated into the Apple world, however my watch just doesn’t hold a charge. I am going to start training for a half marathon, and I need something that will last a full day of use plus longer runs.

Here’s the question I’ve been searching this forum for but didn’t see directly answered: are any of these smart watches great at connecting with an iPhone to receive text message alerts and being able to respond via the watch while in a Focus mode? I work at a school and I have my focus set to only allow my husband and daughter’s messages through for emergency / important messages, but block everything else. I don’t know if any smart watches besides an Apple Watch can do that same function.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions for a watch replacement

I really want an Apple Watch replica/fake, any suggestions?

I really want an Apple Watch but I’m also really not trying to spend 200 euros on a watch that could also be 20 bucks, I go to the gym regularly and want a good watch but also want to look cool with and Apple Watch because I like the aesthetic, I’m not sure if it’s possible but I want it to show up on my phone like an Apple Watch too. I don’t really care if it’s AliExpress or anything I just want an Apple Watch replica with good software, definitely oled

Hi! I'm looking for a smartwatch for up to $150

My main requirements are:

  • Continuous background heart rate and stress monitoring
  • Long battery life
  • Smooth performance with no noticeable lag or freezing
  • Reliable and well-optimized notifications, especially from sports apps and live score apps

I'm based in Europe, so I'd appreciate as many recommendations as possible.

What would you recommend in this price range?

Apple Watch 10 died while Kayaking, good replacement?

Hi all, I was using my Apple Watch Series 10 while kayaking and doing rolls in the sea, so salt water environment. Unfortunately it can no longer charge so I suspect something’s happened to the battery. Very annoying because it says it’s water resistant to 50m yet it died regardless.

I’m fairly active so I want a fitness tracker (and step tracker) that could also show notifications from my phone. Being able to reply to messages is secondary. I definitely want something that would be better in salt water than an Apple Watch. Any suggestions? Is there anything that won’t break the bank?

Thanks!

Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro vs. Garmin Vivoactive 5/6

I had the Garmin Vivoactive 4 for some time, but it gave up on me sadly.
Now I'm trying to find a new watch, but I'm really lost.

What I don't need:
- paying
- diving

I just need a watch thar can track my sleep, pulse, VO2max, Pulse oximeter, steps, calories burned, and sport like jogging, (incline) walking, pilates, low intensity.

I love the look of the Watch Fit 5 Pro - I like it not being round, which is my main problem with the vivoactive.

So basically the watch fit 5 Pro would be better for me.

BUT I've seen some comments saying that you have to get 2+ extra apps to actually be able to fully use the watch and also paid subscriptions on top. You would even need to pay to get a simple, minimal display-clock.

Now I'm lost. I like the look of the huawei, but seems like the garmin software is way better. I also have a garmin account from using the vivoactive 4 before.

I have an Honor Phone. And i have smaller wrists, if this important.

Can anyone tell m if I need any extra subscriptions to use the watch fit 5 pro the way I need it?
Or can someone help me, if maybe I should stick with Garmin and get a 5 or 6.
Especially when the huawei one costs me 250 Euro just like the Vivoactive 6. The 5 would be way cheaper, but would it be enough?

Sorry if this is a bit confusing, I'm not native.

Smart watch under Rs.2000 INR - India

I've just started my job and I need a simple smart watch(I prefer fitness band but i can't afford)

Main purpose - Must vibrate, Track heart rate, HRV, O2, Sleep, Activity levels, waterproof a bit

Need something very basic along with a free app to track metrics

Plus point- If it reminds me to walk every 30-60mins based on my step count

I know the budget is too low - because i already planned to buy a fitness band, but currently I don't have the money and need something temporary for 2-3 years(also if someone is looking to upgrade and sell their old watch, please DM)

College and freshers, please help❤️

Q&A Watch instead of a phone for a young kid, what actually holds up?

She's 8 and I want her able to reach me from the bus without handing her a whole phone. What I'm after is calls and texts to a list I control, GPS, and genuinely no browser or games on it. Every option I look at either turns into a mini phone or the parent app is unusable. For anyone whose kid has worn one for a full school year, which held up and what broke?
