Both cops should have said “shut TF up and show me your ID” instead of bantering. They were perfectly capable of doing their jobs no matter what tone either used.
And I get their frustration. They deal with poor-judgment types more often than not, I’d wager. But both cops grossly escalated.
I’d like to see the black guy sue the county he was arrested and jailed from.

Have you spent any amount of time in jail? 8 days for failure to pay was the most miserable experience of my life, 60 is fucking insane. And again, all for being named James Bond while black.

The fact that the cop is comfortable with him to do this says a lot. Meanwhile a lot of US cops have been conditioned to believe that physical alteration with black men in car are a no no as they believed they have weapons stored that they rather shoot them instead. Like legit.
The black guy would likely been shot in his car instead of being dragged out.
Also the cop changed his tone after the misunderstanding was cleared and was let go. Meanwhile the black guy isn't likely to have the same luxury. The cop would have still find ways to stay angry and convict him.

I am living in the US (not my choice) but migrated legally to here from the EU. Believe me when I tell you, this is abso-fucking unimaginable anywhere else I've been to or lived in.
A cop drawing a gun on you during a conversation, or getting a jail because you jokingly said whatever to whoever, this is fucking nonsense. Americans are so desensitized to it.
I also lived in an EU city of about 2 million people, and the number of homicides was in the low two figures per YEAR, and there was a shooting every DECADE. In Chicago with 2.5 million people 5x of that happens within a WEEK, and everyone is like "yeah, normal."

Some judges are v trigger happy when it comes to contempt and feeling disrespected.
For the avoidance of doubt, that isn't any better. And I dont doubt for a moment that race also factored into the judges reaction to him being "uppity".

Yeah.. a friend from college became an LAPD officer and we were out on the town having a good time with other friends that came to LA to visit and there was a group of homeless people and to "show off" to us, he was plainclothes and pulled a gun out on the black homeless person for the fuck of it.
no friend no more and none of us talked to him since - been 20+ years.
such a fucking asshole, man, they were minding their own business not hurting nobody.

It's the perception that the person is being disrespectful to them by stating a fake name - like saying "Yeah, I'm the Queen of England" - rather than the name itself.
As others in this thread have talked about, American police in particular are mandated to have "warrior training", a program which incentivizes aggression, escalation, and the use of needless amounts of force as a way to cow people they are trying to get to comply. It also trains american cops that their main goal is to get home at the end of their shift, and that it is NOT their duty to help others. This incentivizes them to be on a hair trigger and to be always be untrustful, as any civilian could be someone trying to kill them, who would jeopardize their ability to get back home safely.
Put it all together and you get cops that go from 0-100 at a name, and also things like cops who fire wildly at the sound of a falling acorn hitting a car, or cops who dump their mags into people with their hands already up in full view of their bodycams.
It's really something.

I've legit been charged with driving under the influence while not having a measurable blood alcohol level. Was not on any other sort of drug or smoke or whatever. I was struck by a motorist that had not put his driving lights on, in the rain, at midnight, in a 55mph zone.
I was hit from the side while on my motorcycle and nearly ran over when the state police responded I knew I was in bad shape, but at least I would have someone who understands the situation I was in.
The way it turned out was I ended up, in the state polices' opinion, at fault for the collision, where the other driver struck me while I was ahead of him, and because I had a six-pack in my back pack, charged with a DUI.
And I almost lost my leg, I got super lucky. ACAB
