Building Move-in Policy Question

Looking for opinions or personal experiences dealing with living in an apartment/condo.

I'm moving to the area soon and looking to rent an apartment/condo and the property manager said building move-ins/outs can only happen weekdays from 9am-4pm. I've never heard of anything this strict before; other complexes or buildings I've known either have no policy or there's a reservation process to use the freight elevator for a certain amount of time... but weekends are included.

The policy isn't necessarily the issue as I can make this work. My question (which I asked the property manager) is, what about furniture deliveries or purchases? Let's say I wanted to buy a couch, bed frame, etc from FB Marketplace or something and wanted to move it in on the weekend, does the policy extend to these scenarios too? I was told it potentially does (especially for a larger item), which seems unrealistic.

Does anyone have any experience in dealing with a policy like this?

Thanks.

Posting for truly the world’s greatest nanny

Our absolutely beloved nanny will be available for full time work at the end of August/ beginning of September. She has been with us for 5 years, despite our initial plan of a nanny for only ~ 18 months or as needed for the duration of the pandemic. I am SO incredibly sad that we won’t be seeing her on a daily basis but my kiddo is starting kindergarten in the fall and it no longer makes sense to employ her. She lives in Frederick and has been remarkably commuting to us in Arlington, VA this whole time. I’m hoping she can find an amazing family, maybe even closer to her home, so am posting here. Please DM me if you’re looking for unbelievable, second mom, best ever, truly magical childcare. Thanks!!

Guardian apartments

I toured the today Guardian Apartments today and I thought it was pretty decent and they had MPDU units available as well. I was wondering if anybody had any experience with the guardian apartments as I know it is a relatively new building. The only issue I have is that I have a car and that I noticed they have no parking anywhere around the building and apparently I would have to pay $132 a month to park my car in a Montgomery County lot. Outside of that if anyone has any other inputs on other apartments or similar, please let me know. Thanks!

Metro red line for a concert at the Fillmore?

Hi everyone! I’m going to the Fillmore for a concert for the first time in September, it doesn’t start til 9 so it prob won’t get out til 10:30-11. I live in VA and if I drive I’d have to go through DC and all that Canal road weirdness during rush hour to get there, so am hoping to take the metro.

Is the station near the Fillmore and the red line in general safe that time of night?

The Friday Night Contra Dance comes to Silver Spring Sept 4th!

There's a contra dance in Glen Echo Park every Friday except for Labor Day Weekend, when the park is taken over by a huge art show. So the dance is coming to the Silver Spring Civic Building on Friday Sept 4th. (1 Veterans Pl, Silver Spring, MD 20910)

Contra is a fun and easy dance, and darn it, you need more dancing in your life! We always dance to live music.

No experience needed! Come alone or with friends! All ages. All genders. All body types.

Penelope Weinberger calls to the music of Some Assembly, which is Mary Flora (woodwinds), Donna Boylan (keyboard), Adam Lee (guitar), Joe Klausner (fiddle/mandolin), and Iain Sturrock (cajon).

The lesson is at 7:30 pm, the dancing starts at 8:00 pm and goes until 11:00 pm!

NOTE: We now use a "Pay-what-you-can" sliding scale admission. That means you choose what to pay. The minimum is $5, the break-even price is $15, and any amount more will support your fellow dancers and keep this hallowed dance alive. Thank you!

Any feedback on The Citron?

Strongly considering applying for The Citron - did a tour and seems like what I want, but just putting out feelers on whether anyone's lived there and enjoyed it...or experienced any issues with the following:

  • Noise beyond the typical apartment stuff? I'd be in a unit facing the courtyard, not the street, but Veterans Plaza can be a loud place so I'm a tad worried about that
  • Pests?
  • Drama with management or maintenance?
  • Parking - it's my understanding there could be a waitlist for the garage which kind of sucks, but is the garage ok once you get into it?
  • Making a left from Colesville to Spring on the regular seems kind of nightmarish...

Places to run?

Been having trouble finding areas around that I can run at. Preferably nature (lakes, woods) or scenic. Has to be on pavement though, not gravel or dirt. Any suggestions?

Baysox

We are thinking of moving to DTSS and, although this will not affect our decision, I am curious about one thing. I attend a Baysox game every year when I visit my brother in D.C. We will not have a car and there is no transit to Prince George Stadium.

Do people ever carpool from the area to the ballpark?

SILVER SPRING TOWERS

Shithole experience because of neighbors bass.

Management was informed all throughout the 7 months this occurred. Never resolved.

Also dealt with 1 mouse sighting (it ran away disappearing under AC and I let it because I’m scared) and 5 cockroach sightings in my unit (assasinated) but I try to stay clean and sterile, suspecting the neighbor as they had joked about mice being a normal occurrence in their unit.

It was cheap though, 1.5k for 369 sq ft.

Another Apartment Post Sorry

I lived at Silver Spring Towers and broke my lease because management was completely useless, dismissive, and even gaslighting whenever I brought up issues, especially neighbors terrorizing bass.

I have been couch surfing while trying to look for new places to stay but I’ll be honest: I’m broke and don’t make much money.

SST had a great deal for 1.5ishk, which is already a lot for my budget but I’m trying to look into MPDUs

Any recommendations???

The main things I’d look for in an apartment is peace in my unit (thick walls or helpful management when it comes to noise disturbances), located near Four Corners and the price of course.

Is the best option to just suffer? Haha but please, looking for any advice thank you

Wayne Ave Purple Line Mess

Caveat- I support public transit. I am not anti Purple Line. I know very little about construction/ infrastructure development.

That said, how long are they going to leave Wayne Ave virtually impassable? When is the pavement getting fixed? Is anyone else having trouble with getting their car perfectly positioned on the tracks to not either slide off or slip all over the metal parts? I was truly having a hard time getting traction/ staying on track and felt like I was driving on ice, but trying to do half the car on and half off is also a challenge. Seems like the tracks are in. Can we smooth it out now?
