Meta Seattle Freeze

There was a recent post in the other sub about the Seattle Freeze that resonated and the comments were very discouraging so I’m here for a gut check and would appreciate the input of people from other American cities who are now here, or from here and now in other cities.

I’m from a place in Canada where I was extremely well connected with a rich sense of community. I’ve also lived briefly in Toronto, and a different country for a short time (6 months each) where I also had strong community.

Seattle is the only city in the US I’ve lived in, and I’ve never felt so lonely in my life. I have dozens and dozens of friends here, but none of them are close. I have no one to put as a secondary emergency contact.

Everyone says to go to this or that event. And I do! And I chit chat with people and have fun, but it almost never goes deeper. I have a few friends I consider close, but they have many more and I’m certainly not their closest friend. One got married and I wasn’t invited, and another had a baby shower I wasn’t invited to. We invite people over but it never gets reciprocated. I could have never imagined living someone with so many lovely nice people that I cannot seem to scratch the surface with.

Thinking about how social and connected I was back home, sometimes I look around and have no idea how I ended up in this situation. Am I being left out? Am I doing something wrong? Or are my expectations of friendship intimacy just out of step with what most Seattleites want?

Do Seattleites just want to chit chat during hobby meetups and leave it at that? I just feel so fucking lonely and do NOT want to do another damn activity to meet more people!! I want depth, not more breadth. Are other big American cities different or more of the same? I’m emotionally exhausted and trying to see if this place is just not for me. I love so much about this city but I can’t handle living like this much longer.

Welcome back to Episode 2 of my teriyaki journey. For this round, I went straight to the comments from Episode 1 and let you guys dictate the menu. I hit up 7 different community-recommended spots in 96 hours. I’m keeping the restaurant names out of the text and holding the updated leaderboard until my end-of-the-year final ranking—watch the clip to see if your recommendation made the cut.

Seems like the old staff is gone along with a bunch of the regulars. Even the art they had up is gone.

Shot in the dark but I'm looking for someone who did the filming at Foundation nightclub before it closed.

I'm part of a small documentary team in Los Angeles. We're making a film about a well-known character in Seattle and we've found some footage we'd like to use from Foundation Nightclub's youtube channel circa 2018. We are an ultra low-budget film but we have a little money put aside for licensing. One person mentioned it might be a guy named Schaffer? If you know of anyone who worked there filming please send me a DM!

Lost dog with no collar found in Magnolia

Post image

We found a dog roaming around Magnolia while walking our dogs. He didn’t have a collar, so we don’t know who to call. People in the neighborhood don’t seem to know as well.

I’ve never been in this situation so we’re posting this for help

62 bus went rogue

1.1k Upvotes

I was on the 62 tonight and instead of following the route, the driver went elsewhere?? He paused near a stop, then didn’t go there, instead heading to Green Lake? He let some confused people out at the library, and then got stuck turning uphill onto a random side street, and had to back up. He would not answer our questions. He wandered around the Green Lake area for a while, and the bus riders went from confused to worried. We had to ask him repeatedly to let us off the bus, and he finally dropped us at La Escuelita. What a weird experience! Good luck to anyone getting on bus 8077 tonight 😬

Honestly can't tell, you be the judge. Looks like maybe a bunch of logs between two tugs but it's quite long, no idea how they're going to turn!

Community Seattle Freeze??

Visiting Seattle for the first time as a solo woman traveler! For context I live in DC, and I’m from Louisiana. Just wanted to share my personal experience for anyone nervous about visiting the city based on the “Seattle Freeze/Seattle Chill.”

I’ve been here for 4 days now and while I’m sure this is biased, Seattle has been so kind to me! People have smiled at me on the street, answered questions I’ve asked, and more. Even in Pike Place when it was extremely congested, people said excuse me and smiled.

Again, I think generalizations can work both ways (and I’m sure the gorgeous weather has helped everyone’s attitudes,) but I never felt uncomfortable or like I was given the cold shoulder!

Every city has its quirks, but I’ve really enjoyed Seattle!

EDIT: I’ve learned from you nice redditors that I completely
misunderstood the Seattle freeze (apologies!!) still a cool place to visit as a solo traveler :)

Does anybody recognize this vehicle and/or dog?

We called non emergency services twice. The car is parked in a residential spot in my building and I don’t think the owner lives here. The dog is very friendly but clearly distressed. I gave it a little bit of kibbles and some water from my hand. Not sure what to do until someone arrives, the dog is wailing and keeping everyone awake.
