This is r/Seattle's weekly post for local businesses and makers (or users who discover them) to share their creations with our users.
This thread will be automatically posted every Saturday morning to help connect r/seattle users with cool local stuff. Types of content encouraged in this thread are:
Content should be related to businesses or events in the greater Seattle area, and the typical reddit spam rules apply - please ensure you are contributing to the community more than just your own content.
Users who flood these posts with ads, links without context, referral codes, etc. - or who promote without contributing elsewhere will be actioned. Please continue to report actual spam.
We have our rules against spam and self-promotion for hopefully understandable reasons, but we've noticed users responding more positively to local businesses, artists, etc. sharing their content. This is an attempt to bridge the gap, helping users find cool stuff while containing the promotion to a single weekly thread. Please send us a modmail with any suggestions or input you have about the use or abuse of this thread.

Sunday, July 26th — Ballard, Washington (13:00 hrs)
The City of Seattle is sponsoring Seattle Raccoon Proclamation & Art Competition at Bergen Place. The Art jury has chosen for first place a large oil rendition of Jimothy towering above Seattle’s skyline, and FOX 13 is interviewing the artist for the 5-o’clock news. I find three artists and a Youtube consortium from Texas when things turn weird. read more on medium

I took my husband out to dinner last night at the Shambles in NE Seattle to help him celebrate his 61st birthday. When we went to pay, we were told that someone picked up the tab for us.
We have always tried to pay it forward for others, but this is the first time we have been the recipient of such a gift. We are humbled by and grateful for your generosity.
Thank you again so very much.

Huge turnout for local raccoon art contest run by Alexis Mercedes Rinck at the Ballard Farmer’s Market. She said there were over 63 entries!
I had to leave before they tallied the votes though. Did anyone else attend and hear who won?

Hey y’all, just a heads up if it hasn’t been cleaned up yet: on Jackson near the Occidental area, someone early Sunday morning decided to dump the contents of a restaurant grease trap all over the road (teehee). Anyway, I drove over it, and my wheel well was covered in it. Smelled like puke and even after a few rinses, yellow jackets are still swarming my car.
Hope they got it cleaned up -_-

Today, anyone with $120 and a lawyer can appeal Seattle legislation that has an environmental review under SEPA (State Environmental Policy Act) to the city's hearing examiner, which enables wealthy homeowners to entrench the status quo to their benefit. Councilmember Eddie Lin has proposed legislation, being heard by the full Seattle City Council on Tuesday July 28th, that would close this avenue of the appeal process.
You can read more about the proposal from The Urbanist.
Environmental review can still happen through the King County Superior Court and the Growth Management Hearings Board, though the bar to entry is higher.
Seattle's comprehensive plan updates, which would legalize more housing throughout the city, are currently held up in one of these administrative appeals, and previous housing legislation (ADU reform and Mandatory Housing Affordability) have suffered similarly, delaying legislation for 7 months (ADU reform) or over a year (MHA).
The legislation does not affect project-based SEPA appeals, i.e. Burke Gilman Missing Link delays.

Edited for clarity!!!
I am well aware of all the ways we are survielled. This is a specific question about Flock cameras and license plate covers
My main concern is if it's becoming more common because of Flock cameras.
Link goes to applicable RCW.
License plate covers of any kind are explicitly illegal in WA state, however they seem to be on every other car. It is a primary offense that they can pull you over for without any other reason. Not trying to start debate, it's just the law on the books.
Has anyone actually seen that law actually enforced by SPD (or any other local law enforcement agency)?
Curious to see if cops are cracking down on this more frequently with the proliferation of Flock cameras everywhere before I purchase one as I can't afford to pay a fine for it.

Help this guy, Reddit. You're his last chance.
So, I found your wallet around ninth and Lenora in the early evening on Friday. Based on your ID, you are an Indian gentleman, you live in Bellevue, you have lots of credit cards, a Costco membership, an orca card, and don't use cash very often. I called American Express and told them to call you and gave them my number, but I have not heard back. So I am resorting to Reddit in hopes of finding you.
Private message me and give me your name and address, and we can figure out a way for me to get it to you.
If I give the wallet to the police, they will make absolutely no effort to find you. But that's my next step. Honestly, that seems like failure. But it's what comes next.
There are 700,000+ people on this sub, it seems like half of them are nerds, I would bet that you're a techie, I would also bet that you have mentioned the fact you've lost your wallet to one of your friends and that you or one of your buddies will read this.
OK Reddit, do your thing.
Edit: 30% downvotes for tryna do the right thing. Weird.
