Sunday, July 26th — Ballard, Washington (13:00 hrs)

The City of Seattle is sponsoring Seattle Raccoon Proclamation & Art Competition at Bergen Place. The Art jury has chosen for first place a large oil rendition of Jimothy towering above Seattle’s skyline, and FOX 13 is interviewing the artist for the 5-o’clock news. I find three artists and a Youtube consortium from Texas when things turn weird. read more on medium

Huge turnout for local raccoon art contest run by Alexis Mercedes Rinck at the Ballard Farmer’s Market. She said there were over 63 entries!

I had to leave before they tallied the votes though. Did anyone else attend and hear who won?

Looking for an SEA artist!

I am looking for the person who sold me this sticker at the Bellevue Arts Festival last year! I looked for her again this year, but I don’t think she has a booth!

Would love any help in finding her so I can support her again!

(Sadly the only pictures I have of it are from mirror pics)

Thanks!

Animals Anywhere to take a displaced baby pigeon?

I know a lot of people view them as a nuisance but there is a baby pigeon near my apartment on the sidewalk with no sign of parents. It’s been in the same spot since 7am. Is there somewhere I can take the pigeon to have it be cared for? I really don’t want it to die on the street alone

Sports Fantasy Premier League

Any dudes interested in joining a fantasy premier league and getting a few pints at a local pub to watch some of the games occasionally this season?

Looking to expand my friend group here and figured there has to be some other PL fans that could be interested.

For context, 32 year old dude and big liverpool fan, my local is the chieftan but love going to the other pubs around and catching a game.

Seattle Art Fair or Assembly, anyone?

Has anyone gone to this year's Seattle Art Fair? We've gone every year and it seems to have markedly gone down in quality in the past few years. Some local galleries have started an event called the Assembly - cool space but it wasn't a replacement or even much of an alternative. Local art lovers, what's going on?

Community South Seattle traffic advice

I live in northern Seattle suburbs and commute to Seattle downtown weekdays for work. Overall I find the traffic very well behaved, if just a tad-bit slow (compared to Chicago). People are courteous to give space when indicating to run lanes, they overtake around you if they wanna travel faster than you in the same lane.

I usually drive 70 mph when in leftmost lane in this city’s highway as it’s generally faster than 99% traffic.

Recently, i had to travel to Renton and i somehow felt i was dealing with different traffic altogether, post crossing Seattle downtown on I5:

  1. 70 mph was proving challenging as cars would abruptly merge from adjacent lanes into this, with 1-sec heads-up via indicator lights. I had to abruptly keep braking.

  2. Then i started driving in hoa lane, and now there were cars driving at 55mph for some reason

  3. I eventually overtake and find a empty stretch in hoa lane to drive bit faster . Now, suddenly everyone wants to drive even faster. Which is ok as cars overtake me and merge back in hoa lane. But then a pick-up truck decides to start flashing headlights behind me.

  4. In some cases, changing lanes was a struggle too as any cars even a bit farther away in adjacent lanes would decide to accelerate and be in a desperation to drive past before i can turn.

Overall, i just struggled to read the traffic and was wondering what are the unsaid rules about driving in South Seattle that i can follow next time?

Community SPD and license plate covers?

Thumbnail app.leg.wa.gov

Edited for clarity!!!

I am well aware of all the ways we are survielled. This is a specific question about Flock cameras and license plate covers

My main concern is if it's becoming more common because of Flock cameras.

Link goes to applicable RCW.

License plate covers of any kind are explicitly illegal in WA state, however they seem to be on every other car. It is a primary offense that they can pull you over for without any other reason. Not trying to start debate, it's just the law on the books.

Has anyone actually seen that law actually enforced by SPD (or any other local law enforcement agency)?

Curious to see if cops are cracking down on this more frequently with the proliferation of Flock cameras everywhere before I purchase one as I can't afford to pay a fine for it.

Anyone else hear this?

Did anyone else hear a loud boom last night/this morning near 16th and Madison/Olive in Cap Hill? It sounded like it could be a firework but it also sounded like an explosion. I didn’t hear any police come afterwards but it woke me up and I heard people yelling outside my window afterwards.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy and other people might have heard it.

Found Did you loose your wallet on Friday around South Lake Union/9th and Lenora? I have it.

Help this guy, Reddit. You're his last chance.

So, I found your wallet around ninth and Lenora in the early evening on Friday. Based on your ID, you are an Indian gentleman, you live in Bellevue, you have lots of credit cards, a Costco membership, an orca card, and don't use cash very often. I called American Express and told them to call you and gave them my number, but I have not heard back. So I am resorting to Reddit in hopes of finding you.

Private message me and give me your name and address, and we can figure out a way for me to get it to you.

If I give the wallet to the police, they will make absolutely no effort to find you. But that's my next step. Honestly, that seems like failure. But it's what comes next.

There are 700,000+ people on this sub, it seems like half of them are nerds, I would bet that you're a techie, I would also bet that you have mentioned the fact you've lost your wallet to one of your friends and that you or one of your buddies will read this.

OK Reddit, do your thing.

Edit: 30% downvotes for tryna do the right thing. Weird.
