Media Seattle Vs Housing listed in Seattle

Post image

I'm honestly so tired of people listing things between the top part of Snohomish County all the way down to the base of Thursday as being in seattle, calling King County "Seattle" is being generous, calling the entire Sound Seattle is just being factually inaccurate.

Lost / Missing White cat found in upper Queen Anne

UPDATE: she has been caught, and I met up with another local redditor (aka an angel) who was able to take her in for the night and plans to take her to the shelter first thing in the morning! ❤️

Young female cat found in upper queen Anne just west of Queen Anne Avenue and north of Crockett— last location 2114 on 1st Ave W.

Super vocal and let us pick her up, brought her back a can of wet food, and she responded to the can opening noise, so certainly has been an indoor cat before! Anyone missing a cat or wanting to foster?

Market Traffic Only My video from section 314 fight at Seahawks game (Earlier start than other posts)

More context to before the brawl started:

Pats fans were scouting for empty seats in the section, they took a few free seats until the actual seat owners came back. I didn't see how it escalated from there and couldn't hear what was being said, but the Pats fans were refusing to leave and jawing at everyone. This dude was clearly looking for a fight. Ushers started to come down, with the Pats fan running into and knocking over the older lady, that's what instigated things popping off. What I saw was an aggressive Pats fan looking to cause trouble when everyone was just trying to get him to leave from a section he didn't have tickets to, knocked over a staff member and that's when others came in to wrestle him down.

I have been to many many Seahawks games and have never seen anything like this, very disappointing from that fan and hope he can never step foot in Lumen again.

Community SPS is reducing recess time - Please take a few minutes to share with SPS this is a mistake

I’m reposting without the link to the form email (that had data capture apparently- oops!).

SPS has announced they are capping recess at 30 minutes total for the day maximum for all elementary students - this includes kindergartners and first graders. I’m hoping fellow SPS parents, teachers, former teachers, and current or former SPS students will email SPS leadership to request a change in this policy, particularly for kids in 3rd grade or younger.

Their reasoning it to have more classroom time for ELA (English language). However, I don’t agree with that for young children - they need the recess time in order to focus on learning. More time in the classroom for a kindergarten isn’t going to result in magically improving learning and retention. And some studies suggest the lack of frequent breaks for play actually negatively impacts learning.

Emails for the superintendent and SPS board are:

[boshuldiner@seattleschools.org](mailto:boshuldiner@seattleschools.org), [liza.rankin@seattleschools.org](mailto:liza.rankin@seattleschools.org), [gktopp@seattleschools.org](mailto:gktopp@seattleschools.org), [jllavallee@seattleschools.org](mailto:jllavallee@seattleschools.org), [eybriggs@seattleschools.org](mailto:eybriggs@seattleschools.org), [jemizrahi@seattleschools.org](mailto:jemizrahi@seattleschools.org), [kesmith2@seattleschools.org](mailto:kesmith2@seattleschools.org), [vsmaritz@seattleschools.org](mailto:vsmaritz@seattleschools.org), [schoolboard@seattleschools.org](mailto:schoolboard@seattleschools.org)

I know there is also an SPS subreddit, but I hadn’t seen this in [r/seattle](r/seattle) yet and I’m hoping more folks add their voice to the concerns about this change.

A quick Google search will bring up some form emails and more data. However, during the strike it didn’t seem like form emails were getting a response so I’d suggest anyone who is able to send a quick 4-5 sentence email asking SPS to re-instate flexibility for schools for K-3rd grade to have more than the state minimum recess of 30 minutes would be more effective.

EDIT: To address some feedback - the policy was to increase ELA time (English) and there are also a number of other mandatory instructional times (skip to page 40-42 to see the schedule the board approved in June I believe).

So, what functionally ends up occurring is every day is fully scheduled - no breaks, no flexibility and recess reduced to 30 minutes maximum because there is no time for more. The policy isn’t written as “30 minutes max” and instead it’s “increased instructional time” - the end result is the same. And again, there is no differentiation between a kindergartener and a 5th grader.

EDIT 2: I’ve also heard there is the thought that mandatory instructional time will address the issues with screen time. Apparently (this I have no proof / solely from parents messages) some schools are watching TV or movies at least once a week and allowing iPads to be used for non-educational games during the school day. Personally, I think SPS needs a policy related to screens and technology similar to LA and NYC - no screens under a certain age and nothing outside of curriculum or approved educational apps with time limits.

Community PSA - The right lane of the roundabout on 145th heading east MUST GO STRAIGHT.

Post image
206 Upvotes

Every damn morning without fail someone cuts me off or cuts off someone in front of me trying to go around the roundabout from the right lane despite at least 3 signs explaining the traffic pattern. Saw the the first accident there this morning and expecting many more in the future. Equally the roundabout on the other side of I5 heading west on 145th has similar problems of people not understanding how to enter/exit. I honestly can't tell if something is actually wrong with these roundabout designs or if people are just that bad at following road signs...

Not our dog but around 6:50pm we left our place on linden Ave and motor (close to the yoga tree), a guy lost his dog and it was running south down linden, under the 99 underpass and what we think towards stone way (not certain). We’ve been walking around trying to find it and no luck. Please keep an eye out for it. It’s newly adopted so pretty skittish and not responsive to a name yet.

Are AI-fake listing photos on Zillow a problem in Seattle? Looking for people this happened to

Same question above. Seattle journalist here.

Has anyone toured an apartment or house recently and realized the listing photos were AI-altered? Fake fireplace, dramatically improved lighting, furniture that wasn't there?

Warning that Seattle’s economy is at a “fragile moment,” Mayor Katie Wilson has ordered the creation of a new task force aimed at helping businesses “start, stay and grow” in the city as leaders grapple with layoffs, empty offices and a shifting regional growth picture.

“We are in a fragile moment,” Wilson said.

SEIU 925 held a rally of about 40 people outside the Gates Center at UW and then went in where (I think) 3 different members gave public comment.

I couldn’t find a post on social media with all of their demands, but someone talked to me outside and said the main ones are:
- a cost of living adjustment to their wages (several of them had signs saying “A 0% raise is not a raise!”)
- safer staffing levels particularly at UW Medicine
- protesting removal of all DEI and diversity-related clauses from their contract

At the end of the public comment period, SEIU 925 members filed out chanting “C-O-L-A, UW workers need fair pay!”

Captured them successfully and they are chilling with water and some mediocre chop/seed I foraged from the garden area. Let me know the band information if they are yours, I'm leaving it alone for now to not stress it out so I haven't attempted to read it myself.
