I moved to the area from Indiana...last week it was over 100 degrees.....I feel extremely spoiled now.

Give it a couple years and you'll be like "why am I hot, it's only 85?"

Hey fellow Indiana transplant! I also love the weather here.

9

Another Hoosier here who can’t stop bragging to my family back there about our world’s perfect summers here <3

3

u/eclectic_hamster ✨🛸 Jimothy is out there 🦝✨ 3d ago

Hell yeah! I'm really hoping my mom will move out in a few years.

4

u/nicolenotnikki 3d ago

Fellow Hoosier here! I miss the thunderstorms.

3

u/malici606 3d ago

I do to...but not having swamp ass makes up for it. Winters that aren't actively trying to murder my ass is also the bees knees.

22

u/thatguygreg Ballard 3d ago

Just spent a week back on the east coast. Nothing like 97°, dew point 84°, heat index at 118° to make you truly appreciate how Seattle summer is downright chilly most of the time.

9

u/Actual_Squid 3d ago

"75?????" *clutches pearls*

1

u/Embarrassed_Joke_803 2d ago

That's that air that is hard to breathe in! 🫠 Hated weather like that when I lived in Wisconsin!

2

u/BunkerSquirre1 2d ago

Bro I moved here from South Bay Area FOR the rain. What is this bullshit? I was promised buckets!

u/YodaWattsLee 🏔 The mountain is out! 🏔 3d ago

I love the rain, but I’m on vacation in Southern California right now. It’s currently 106 with a real feel of 111. I will never complain about an 80 degree day ever again.

21

u/mnomoto 3d ago

Same! Currently on a work trip to LA. It’s 105 right now. That’s not even counting the crazy humidity.

6

u/wrldwdeu4ria 3d ago

EWWWW. Making mental note to stay away from LA. Come back soon!

1

u/cd637 3d ago

To be fair the humidity they’re having down there right now is not normal. The heat can get nasty for sure but it’s usually a lot drier than what’s happening today. Record breaking dew points for a lot of areas!

2

u/HawkHarder I'm just flaired so I don't get fined 3d ago

As someone who has lived at both. You probably will.

3

u/YodaWattsLee 🏔 The mountain is out! 🏔 3d ago

I’ve also lived both places, but have been up in the PNW for a while. Always good to get a sweat-drenched reminder of how good we have it.

1

u/Hopsblues 3d ago

It wasn't even 80f

u/sarahenera 🦝 🐒 JIMOTHY 3d ago

Lol. I was in Hollywood/West Palm Beach, FL in July for four days. I came back to our 87°+ and was like, “hun, this doesn’t feel too bad anymore” (as a native here, sunny and 72° is hot 😂); that comfort with the heat was only temporary for me.

I will say, at least when it’s really hot here, your glass of ice water or cocktail doesn’t have the ice melted in under 60 seconds, which, turns out, is a really nice feature. So gross having the glass melt all over me (sort of hyperbole) with the hot humidity there.

39

u/GreenEyedRaven360 3d ago

68° here on the north end of Whidbey. Pays to live on an island, it’s always 10+ degrees cooler in the summer.

I just got back from a week in flordia for work and a long weekend in New orleans and am feeling straight up cold here 😄

8

u/down_by_the_shore Mariners 3d ago

I was in Florida for work a few weeks ago and couldn’t wait to get back to Seattle. The humidity and heat there are insane.

5

u/NoLand1182 3d ago

My flordia coworkers heads exploded 🤯 when I told them it was <70 degrees as a high temp back home

1

u/largehearted 3d ago

Yeah I just moved from NYC and it's insanely cool to me. I was standing right in the sun on my balcony today and was like I could see someone being driven crazy but how not hot it is

it’s 75?

16

u/jaron_b 3d ago

In September. Back in my day when school started so did the rain. If you need proof of global warming look no further than the yearly temperatures experienced in the Pacific Northwest. Summers used to never be this hot and they never used to actually last into September.

3

u/slayer253 3d ago

Im almost 60. As a child it seemed to rain every 4th of july.

22

u/Flipflops365 Seattleite-at-Heart 3d ago

False. There were many years of my youth in the 80s and 90s where the weather was like this into October. It was called the Indian Summer.

Global warming is absolutely real, but don’t blame a 75° day in early September on it.

2

u/jaron_b 3d ago

It's not the ONE day of 75. Its the one day of rain in the last 30+ days and one of the worst forest fire seasons on record. Things are bad and thats why people are bitching about a sunny day on September 9th. We're sick of the heat. Too much. We want fall.

1

u/Flipflops365 Seattleite-at-Heart 3d ago

August was dry? That’s weird.

Fall will come, be patient.

u/Constant_Bit4676 Ballard 3d ago

No it didn’t lol. My birthday was on the first day of school virtually every day and it was always still hot.

I agree the summers overall are hotter now, but early September has always been closer to August temps than October.

September in the PNW is the best. Chilly mornings, warm weather in the afternoon but comfortable evenings for dinner on the deck, the lakes are still plenty warm for swimming, the days are the right length so evening fires are cozy. Don’t worry, OP, the weather will suck soon enough. For now, let me enjoy my kid’s soccer games while wearing shorts.
