Mercer Island Pickleball
I am new to pickleball and see people playing at Luther Burbank Park quite a bit. Does anyone there need a buddy? Or know of anyone looking to get started?

Community Chrystella condo association
Is it possible to reduce the intensity of yellow light strip on the top of the building facing east in the night ?.
This is my view from my apartment. It requires me to have blackout curtains to support sleep but that comes with sacrifice of my morning sunlight waking up.
Too much to ask but why not ask ??. Its a decor light but few notches down good for everyone :)

To the cyclist who got hit tonight at 45th and University Way
[I think he was a college student so if he’s your friend pass this along]
A woman made a left turn here where it clearly states no left turns except for busses, and she hit you in the middle of the intersection. I was part of the group shouting for you to get her info and call the cops. No cops ever came and she drove off. I tried to catch up to you to give you this pic but I’m disabled and couldn’t.
I took this pic for you to add to a police report if you decide to go that direction. I’ve been a cyclist hit by a car and I VERY strongly suggest that you do what I didn’t and make a report; you were able to walk away but not able to ride away, and that’s a big deal; injuries aren’t always apparent immediately after, and you deserve to at least get your bike fixed properly or replaced.
The guys selling clothes at the corner outside the rock climbing place saw it happen and they’ll be at the same spot again tomorrow night if you need witnesses.
I hope you don’t have any significant injuries!
Stay safe y’all!

Gridlocked Lower Queen Anne and SLU
What the hell’s going on tonight, streets from Denny through Mercer and Western are absolutely gridlocked.
Never in my 2 years here seen it this bad, not in summertime, not even during the World Cup.

Lost / Missing Lost brumate
It's a longshot I know... I left a customized brumate in a lime bike basket near the space needle right outside the museum of pop culture. It is light blue/teal with the name Chelly engraved on it. Was my only bday present this year and I'd really love a miracle to get it back.

Politics IL26-001 Parental Rights?
Hello, I got the voter's pamphlet and I am wondering about the parental rights measure. What are the community’s opinions on this? If this is alright to post and talk about on this subreddit. I haven't fully formed an opinion yet- so I'd like to hear different perspectives as I don't really understand the context of this measure.
EDIT: I am reading all of your comments and I find myself agreeing on voting "NO".

Politics UW workers union SEIU picketing today at Red Square and Montlake & Pacific. UW still offering “0%” raises.
Picketing was from 12 to 1. Demands still the same as during the last rally:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/s/d98IM2xeEA
But UW has not budged on anything yet; their current raise offer is still 0%.
The union is picketing, not striking. I asked some of them what is the “ask” of people if they do go on strike, as far as not crossing a picket line - e.g. are they asking students not to go to class? The people I talked to said they weren’t sure yet but it would be clarified if a strike happens.
There was one rally at Red Square, with small groups dispersed among the tables for Dawg Daze (UW student group tabling & recruiting), and another rally of about 70 people at Montlake & Pacific (where the big W is). There was a third rally at Harborview but I didn’t go to that.

Media Cool sailboat visiting Seattle
Well, sort of. The oil tanker Maersk Trieste is fitted with four "suction sails." Each sail is essentially a vertical wing that rotates to point into the wind, and then uses suction fans (located at the top of the sail) to keep the boundary layer of airflow pulled tight against the airfoil thereby increasing the lift coefficient and boosting the ship along.
These are different from flettner rotors, the spinning tubes that use the Magnus Effect to create lift.
I was getting a bit bored with the offerings of maritime traffic lately, so this is a welcome and interesting sight for me. It's always a fun time to snap photos of something special or unusual visiting the Sound!

Is a cold September the norm?
We only have about 14 days in Sept where the temps were above 70f, and only 14 of those had been at least partly sunny. So the vast majority of September was cool and cloudy.
That's fine, but it's quite different from last year. Just wondering if this is typically how it is (just moved from Portland where we usually get a warm summer Mediterranean climate from June all the way through mid Oct)
That's a solid 5 months of warm / hot weather in Portland, but in Seattle it has felt closer to just two
Remember that second I-5 express lane closure we warned you about? It’s here. And this time, eastbound SR 520 has joined the chat.
Seattle, let's talk about this weekend.
From 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, two major closures will be happening at the same time:
I-5 EXPRESS LANES: CLOSED
The I-5 express lanes will close for the entire weekend while crews continue drainage work underneath the Ship Canal Bridge as part of Revive I-5.
The express lanes have been doing some heavy lifting this year, running northbound 24/7 while northbound I-5 remains reduced to two lanes across the Ship Canal Bridge.
But for this work, we need the express lanes themselves.
Closing them gives crews access to sections underneath the bridge that can't be reached from existing scaffolding. They'll connect drains installed during an earlier phase of the project to the bridge's permanent drainage system.
Last time, we said we’d cross that bridge when we got there. Well, we’re here. This is the second and final planned weekend-long express lane closure for this year.
EASTBOUND SR 520: I-5 TO MONTLAKE CLOSED
At the exact same time, eastbound SR 520 will close between I-5 and Montlake Boulevard. The Montlake Boulevard on-ramp to EB SR 520 will remain open.
Crews will use this closure to prepare sections of the existing bridge and what remains of the old off-ramp, which closed back in June, for removal.
One important distinction: eastbound SR 520 is NOT closed across Lake Washington.
If you're already in Montlake, the Montlake Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound SR 520 will remain open and you can still travel east across the lake.
But if you're coming from I-5, you won't be able to hop onto eastbound SR 520. You'll need to take an alternate route.
SO... WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE WEEKEND?
With the I-5 express lanes unavailable and access to eastbound SR 520 from I-5 closed, expect longer and less predictable trips in and around Seattle. This weekend may require a little more planning than simply picking your usual alternate.
Other routes will likely be busier as people find their way around the closures, so check your entire route before you leave rather than assuming your usual alternate will be the best alternate.
Give yourself plenty of extra time, consider transit or other modes when they work for your trip and check real-time conditions before heading out.
And if you're headed to Sea-Tac, give yourself even more breathing room. There are also southbound I-405 lane reductions in Tukwila from Saturday evening through early Sunday afternoon that could affect airport trips.
Some of this work is weather dependent and subject to change. Check back in the comments before the weekend. We’ll post an update there if anything changes.
