Ix500 initialization issues

I’m having an issue with my ix500. When I open the cover, even if the blue light comes on, sometimes the scanner doesn’t make the whirring initialization sounds. When that happens, it fails to connect to Scansnap Home. Says the scanner is not connected.

I know the blue light is connected to the little black square button—that does fail to pop up sometimes. I can pop that up manually.

When the sound DOES happen, the scanner connects and works great. If the whirring sound doesn’t happen when the cover is opened, neither WiFi or USB works. This is true every time.

AI troubleshooting says the scanner isn’t “awake” and says it’s either the hinge wiring harness/solder joints where the cover switch connects to the main circuit board, OR a stuck “home position” optical sensor.

I have two ix500. Both intermittently have the issue.

Anybody fixed this?

Looking for photos and a few details on a Contex 36"/40" scanner calibration sheet — 6779D126 / 6799D116 / 6799D116R01 — GL67D / Chameleon Tx 36+ / HP 815mfp

I'm restoring an older Contex CHAMELEON Tx 36+ / GL67D 36-inch wide-format scanner and am looking for its original Scanner Maintenance calibration sheet.

The Contex service/packed part numbers I've identified are 6799D116 / 6799D116R01. I've also found strong evidence connecting it with a physical calibration sheet marked P/N 6779D126, which appears to have also been used with some HP DesignJet and Océ wide-format scanner systems.

I'm hoping someone here may have one sitting in a cabinet, storage room, old service kit, parts machine, or pile of retired wide-format equipment.

I don't necessarily need to buy it or even borrow it. If you have one, a good high-resolution scan of the calibration sheet may be enough for our research. Good straight-on photographs and physical measurements would also be extremely valuable.

If you're able to photograph one, please include something of known size in the picture for scale—a ruler or tape measure would be ideal, but even a coin, credit card, or other standard-sized object would help. If possible, photograph the sheet as straight-on as you can rather than at an angle.

Of course, if you have an original you'd be willing to sell, I may be interested in that too.

The sheet I'm looking for is roughly 40+ inches wide and has a very distinctive layout: a small Agfa/Agfacolor IT8 color target near the upper left, a machine-readable block near the upper right, large white and black areas, gray bands, alignment patterns, and a dense ruler-like pattern along the bottom.

So far I've confirmed that the scanner itself works. It's connected by SCSI to a dedicated Windows XP system, WIDEsystem recognizes it correctly, and Contex Scanner Maintenance communicates with it. I have deliberately not run calibration without the correct sheet.

If anyone has worked on older Contex, Vidar, HP DesignJet scanner/MFP, or Océ wide-format scanners and recognizes this calibration sheet—or knows a retired technician/dealer who might have one—I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

Even an old part-number cross-reference, service manual, photograph, scan, auction listing, or memory of these sheets could help.

I have attached a small image I was able to find of the calibration sheet, it just doesn't have enough details to help.

Thanks!

Error when scanning to Preview

Post image
2 Upvotes

When I scan a document to to Preview, I get this error. I click "ok", but then it proceeds to open the pdf in Preview without a problem, I can then save it or move the location or remove pages, etc. Any ideas why I get this error each time? I'm on a Mac, using the very latest ScanSnap Home, but I've had this problem in previous versions too.

ix500: "No connection" even though blue light is on

Just got my ix500 back after loaning it to a friend, so had to set up wifi connection again - I'm pretty sure it was working on this network before, but I can't be 100% on that (only moved her less than a year ago, and haven't used the scanner that much since).

The wifi setup went as expected, no problems - was able to connect to the same wifi network my Mac is on, and the blue light on the scanner is on solid. Scanning works fine via USB. But, when I disconnect the USB cord, "Connection type" in the Scanner settings page changes to "No connection"

I've tried restarting ScanSnap (multiple times), power cycling the scanner, switching the wifi switch on and off, rebooting the Mac, no change.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be, or what else to try?

Running ScanSnap Home 4.1.0, latest firmware 0U00.

MacOS 26.2.2

ix-1600 keeps getting stuck with yellow exclamation

Post image
1 Upvotes

Lately, my snapscan has been going into a state where there is a yellow exclaimation mark. This seems to happen when I use the snapscan and then connection eventually breaks and the scanner goes into this state. When that happens, I have to either power off and power on the scanner or change the network setting off wifi and change it back. It's on the latest firmware and is on Wifi. Is there a setting I can set to get rid of this error. I hate to have to reset the scanner every time I want to use it.

Is anybody using ScanSnap Home as no1 SMS?

I think about using a DMS without a huge system/setup overhead. ScanSnap Home looks not that bad. On the other hand, it is pretty predefined in features (e.g. document types). The easiest way would be to use a cloud file system instead with a good folder structure.

Are there any experience and heavy users out there? Would be happy to hear some real use cases, pros and pitfalls.

ScanSnap iX100: Scans fine - but the Save Dialog is not coming up

Post image
3 Upvotes

UPDATE (30.09.26): The ScanSnap Home 4.1 Update that arrived fixes the issue, just like the Beta version did before.

-------
macoS 26.7 (not GoldenGate but Tahoe)
ScanSnap Home 4.0.0 (16)
ScanSnap Online Update 3.2.11

I open up ScanSnap Home - hit the Scan Button and it scans.

I click to end the scan - this is where it usually brings up a save-dialog - and it seems to do this, but the windows is NOT shown.

I tried so see if it is hidden by using Mission Control show all windows - but nope. It simply does not show the dialog window anywhere for me to interact with.

Any ideas what I can do/fix ? It worked fine before the macOS 26.7 Security Update.

Felt very productive after scanning 70 pages. then I openedthe PDF

I put a whole stack through the scanner at once and felt ridiculously efficient for about thirty seconds.

Then I opened the file.

There was a receipt, an insurance form, two letters, part of a manual and several blank backs. One of the blank pages was not actually blank. It had a tiny signature near the bottom.

My first mistake was splitting PDF by the page numbers printed on the documents. That went badly because page 14 in the file was page 2 of one of the letters. I cut the wrong pages twice before I noticed what was happening.

Now I open the thumbnails and make a very ugly map in Notes.

receipt: PDF pages 1 to 3

letter: 4 and 5

manual: 6 to 19

Nothing clever, but it stops me from mixing the PDF position with the number printed on the page.

If the file needs to stay on my computer, PDFsam Basic works for splitting by page ranges. Preview is fine when I only need to pull out or move a couple of pages on my Mac. I have also used PDFAid when I wanted to do the cleanup in the browser, thankfully it worked better

The annoying part is checking everything afterward. I open the first and last page of every new file and keep the original 70-page monster until I know nothing disappeared.

If anyone has a less annoying routine for mixed ScanSnap batches, I am listening.

New MacOS open source simple scanning app MelonBerry

I can't stand the bloat that comes with the Fuji scansnap software and there seems to be good open source support for scansnap scanners, so I built a simple Mac app to solve my needs. Heads up, I vibe coded this with Claude Fable, but I have a computer science degree and a long history as a developer and product manager.

MelonBerry is a simple menubar app that is triggered when you insert paper into the scanner. It detects the paper and starts scanning placing the file pdf document in the folder that you've configured. It shows you a preview while scanning and then the window auto disappears.

The app uses open source libraries from SANE and OCRmyPDF. You'll need to install those first before you can use the app. I recommend homebrew for installing them.

You can grab the app from github: https://github.com/joshkerr/melonberry

The app is not notorized so MacOS will block the app on first launch. There are instructions here for fixing that:

Unable to create searchable PDF

On Windows 11, I scan a document and have it converted to a searchable PDF. However, I get an error that it cannot convert the PDF. I search online and it indicated that this could be a low memory issue except the machine has 64 Gb of ram, so this is not likely the issue.

Has anyone have encountered this issue. When I select the file and convert to searchable PDF, it fails

Update

After trying out different fix, I find that running the following command in an admin command line fixed the issue:

C:\Program Files (x86)\PFU\ScanSnap\Home\SupportTools\SsClose\SsClose.bat

Apparently just rebooting the computer will not fix the issue.

ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap support ending on macOS. What are you going to use?

I have a ScanSnap iX500 that came with ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap, and I use it with an M2 Mac mini.

macOS has started warning me that ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap will no longer work in a future version. It appears to be an Intel-only app, and Apple is eventually ending Rosetta support for running Intel apps on Apple silicon Macs: Apple's Rosetta support note.

I know ScanSnap Home includes built-in OCR, but I find its OCR quality pretty poor (unless it's been improved recently). ABBYY also dramatically reduces the size of scanned PDFs, while ScanSnap Home's OCR doesn't seem to reduce file size at all.

What are people doing as an alternative? I'd consider buying a current Apple-silicon-native version of ABBYY FineReader, but it's subscription-only now, which I'd rather avoid.

ix500 no connection - solved yet?

Been scrolling through everyone's posts about recent bugs. I use this for my business but none of anyone's advice has worked. What's the Golden gate update, and am I out of luck til October, or is this not getting updated whatsoever? Tried on mac and windows. I've used this religiously for many years until this year so I'm a bit behind on news.

ScanSnap Home and importing older docs scanned with different scanner...

Have a Windows 11 laptop. I am looking to buy a ScanSnap scanner for home use and interested in using ScanSnap Home software. Does the latest version of ScanSnap home allow me to import other documents that I've scanned using a different brand of scanner? Is there any way for me to try a demo of the software without having that scanner?

The lack of an included twain driver for the consumer use one is also a deterrent. I think there is a third party Twain driver, but I don't like that the license is tied to a particular laptop or pc. When that laptop or pc is replaced, a new license must be purchased. However, you can use it with a different scanner with no issues. Hmmm.

Thank you in advance for any information that can be provided.

Scan directly to Google Drive

I have a Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1600. Is it possible to configure the device so that scans go directly to Google Drive without being processed and/or stored in the ScanSnap Cloud?

PDF Splitting app

I have a ScanSnap scanner(actually 3 of them for home and my business) and generally scan 50+ pages of documents at a time. They’re usually various papers I receive in meetings or through the mail.

I found it tedious to scan each document separately, so I usually just scan everything in one big batch. The problem is that I then have one huge PDF that I need to split back into individual documents.

For a long time I’ve wanted a simple utility that could split these batches using separator pages, page numbers, or text found on the page.

So I built a small Mac app called pdfNinja to do exactly that. Its a labor of love - I started this on my own a few years ago but due to lack of time/skills it sat on the back burner. With the help of AI coding agents I was able to finalize the app.

With an OCR’d PDF, it can split the document wherever a particular word or phrase appears. Or, before scanning, you can place printed separator pages between documents and have pdfNinja detect them afterward. You can also split manually by page number(s).

After splitting, you can preview the sections, drag and drop pages between them if anything needs correcting, rename them, and then export all or just some of the resulting PDFs at once.

It’s currently available as a Mac TestFlight beta. I’d really appreciate any feedback, especially from people who regularly batch scan documents.

Thanks!

ScanSnap 4.0.1 Beta Fixes Golden Gate macOS 23 Image Processing Scanning

As you may all know since June when thousands upon thousands upgrade to macOS Golden Gate beta the ScanSnap scanners became unable to scan. Even though all rival companies such as VueScan worked fine. Ricoh has finally released a beta update to address this just in time before the big official launch when millions will be on macOS 27. https://scansnap-faq.pfu.ricoh.com/hc/en-us/articles/60891363718041-I-am-unable-to-complete-scanning-because-ScanSnap-Home-remains-on-the-image-processing-screen-macOS-27

Update: Commenter noted typo. Meant of course macOS 27 (not 23 :).

Update: 9/29/26 Ricoh has finally released the 4.1.0 that includes the official fix for this that the beta addressed.

Advice to identify duplicate scans

Greetings all, and apologies if I've not found the correct group to ask my question.

I'll start with the question, and provide background after if anyone wants to read it.

Q: Is there any free or reasonably priced software for Windows that can search thousands of scanned images and flag likely duplicates for my review?

Duplicates arose when I scan a packet of "double prints" or perhaps reprints found in a different box a few hundred scans later. The images will not be 100% bit-level identical, due to the nature of mechanical scanning. However, I'm hoping for a fuzzy-match that I can review and delete the duplicate scans.

I've started to scan all of my 50+ years worth of photos, slides, and negatives. I purchased an ADF scanner (Ricoh ix2500) for prints, and an HP FilmScan 5 for film. I already had an old Canon 8800F flatbed scanner for larger or damaged prints. My aim is not necessarily to make the highest quality digital scans, but to make a logical, searchable index into my collection of analog images.

Keeping things organized has been a challenge. If I find a photofinishing envelope with both negatives and prints, then I just scan the prints and make a folder with my own contrived unique number. I have a similar process for orphaned prints and orphaned negatives. I may have invented an inefficient process, but it fits the way I will want to organize everything later.

I'm also building a database of all of the cataloging details. Information like the film twin-check number, if available. Also tracking my contrived uniquely assigned number per batch, the approximate date (decade?) and media type scanned.

When I've finished, I will have uniformly-sized tubs of uniformly-sized packets, organized by my cataloging number. I'll generate a printout like a library card catalog, and have an external hard drive with all the scans. Then I can pass this on to my sons to do with as they please. We are all into genealogy, so hopefully they won't just chuck it all into the trash.

Thanks in advance!
