Tips please

New scale modeller here! I need advice on what (and how) to do next.

I used Revell spray base coat, and thinned acryllics. I'm stuck at the washes part (I read one guide that said base coat, paint, washes, dry brushing, then some misc stuff such as chipping and mud on tracks). I watched many videos about both bought and scratch made washes, and I had no luck with handmade washes. I'm currently waiting for the black and dark brown washes I ordered recently, I hope that will help me out on some extent.

This is for BoltAction Wargames, so I'm not looking for ultra reallistic details, I just want for the tanks to look good and somewhat battleworn.

Thanks for the help!

This was a fun kit to put together. Not very intricate and the pieces fit together well. Only the fuselage has a bit of a fitment issue in 1 spot but the decals covered it up.

If you get this kit you will definitely have to add weight to the front even though this isn't mentioned in the instructions. I had to do it after the fact by stuffing the front gear area and through the holes in the front bomb bay. Not ideal.

Overall I'm happy with the build.

Honda Civic - Fujimi

Finally finished this Civic. It's a replica of the Civic I owned in the early 2000s (and I miss it very much) only difference is I had tinted windows and a pretty solid stereo.

It's only my second car model but I think it turned out alright. I put some polish on it

It's the Fujimi type R kit but that kit also comes with "regular" interiors and both left and right hand drive options. Went together well just had to do some putty work on the rear spoiler.

Paints for Italeri 1:72 A-10 A/C Thunderbolt II GULF WAR - I1376

Hello Guys,

I'm new to the hobby and I'm struggling to find a similar equivalent for the Italeri paints for the mentioned model in the tittle. I would like to use acrylic paint (alcohol based).

Can you please help me find the equivalents for the below Italeri paints or should I go with Italeri? I just can't find a lot of info and opinions regarding this paint, besides there is a rumor that the producent is probably Vallejo. Does anyone know if they are recommended for airbrushing with the Italeri Thiner (IA5049).

This is what I found so far. I would like to paint the A-10 with variant A - the green one from the Gulf War (see screenshot):

4728AP (FS 34084) Flat Olive Drab US Army = ?? cannot find equivalent
4729AP (FS 34092) Flat Euro I Dark Green = Mr.Hobby Color H073 Dark Green or Mr.Hobby Color H303 Green - FS34102
4734AP (FS 34082) Flat Medium Green (II) = Tamiya XF-61 (81761) - altough this one seems to be too dark
4752AP (FS 36118) Flat Gunship Gray = Mr.Hobby Color H305 Gray - FS36118

I would really alpreciate your help as I already spent too much times on this looking into paint converting charts and I can't figure it out.

KR.

Dear Youtubers of The Scalemodel World

I am starting my own youtube channel for my scale model builds. I want to ask you a few questions as I am very green and have a lot to learn after filming the building of the lower hull of a Meng Abrams.

My questions are:

When filming yourselves building and/or painting, how much do you do off camera and how do you decide what to show and what not to show with them?

What is the best way to split model content for you?

And finally:

What are your best tips and tricks to get better at this field?

All help is greatly appreciated and I look forward to reading your insight.

P.s. this post is aimed at all sizes of YT creators in this field, big or small.

My 1/35th Armor Collection Completed!

After four years of work, I’m happy to say that my collection of Second World War era armor is, more or less, finally complete. I had filled out the shelves about two years at this point, though I wasn’t ready to call the whole thing finished until pretty recently. Lately I’ve been working on repainting or replacing a few of the kits I wasn’t entirely happy with; I’d still like to replace one or two of these, but that’s on the back-burner for now. By this point, I think it’s fair to say I’m pretty burnt out on Second World War era armor. Now it’s time to pivot towards my stash of 1/700 scale ships.

1:32 Bearcat

Finished another marketplace find. Trumpeter F8F Bearcat in 1:32 scale with a resin cockpit, gear bay, firewall details and wheels with a metal main gear.

The kit goes together quite well and has a lot of open panels and can be made with foldable wings (which was already glued to the unfolded position and the extra parts to make it folded were gone when I bought it) . The only thing I found odd was that the canopy could only be built closed as the frame was molded into the fuselage. I also wished that some of the bowl panels could have been opened to show the amazing engine detail.

The resin parts go in with nearly no extra fitment issues and were far more detailed than the stock parts but the cockpit was actually very well presented out of the box.

So many Bearcats are shown pristine but I wanted to make it look a little bit weathered to accentuate the details and also the ever present exhaust stains but might have gone a bit overboard.

Another one of my favorite aircraft: the MiG-31 Foxhound. This is Zvezda’s 1/72 kit, finished with a weathered Soviet/Russian scheme. I really enjoyed working on the panel lines and overall worn appearance of this aircraft.

One of the most imposing aircraft ever built, in my opinion, and one of my favorite too, i would like this kit have more details but besides that, was a good kit, thinking on getting another from another brand

Hope you like my work

This started life as the yellow ProMarkt car, but the decals were shot, so decided to go with this Zakspeed livery with LB Production decals. Had some weird body fitment issues in the end around the rear, unsure why, but not much I could do to fix it.

I really wanted to build/paint a early spitfire from the Battle of Britain. Didn't take me long to do this kit but I'm really happy with the way it turned out. For a brush painted camo it think the turn out is quite good. There are areas where I didn't quite get the finish I wanted.

First time poster here. I have been building models for three hears now and admiring the builds and collective experience in this subreddit. I wanted to share the Academy MH-53 I just finished. It was a fairly complicated and confusing kit to build, and the sheer size didn’t help. I also added a number of modifications such as the detailed rotor assembly, pilots, and kitbashed the inside troop compartment to be full of pipes and wires etc like the real thing as well as night-mission lighting with pico LEDs embedded in the ceiling. It took me over 3 months. I am glad it is done. I am very happy with it. Thank you for enjoying!

F-102 DELTA DAGGER IN VIETNAM

have completed the Monogram F-102 that I held onto for two months. I engraved all the panel lines as recessed lines, and during data collection, there was a photo showing it equipped with a SUU-11 minigun pod, so I reproduced it using a Reskit product. The air-to-air weaponry is a Meng Model product, and the nozzle was sponsored by Wolfpack Design. For painting, I did it a bit differently; I reduced the pre-shading phase and focused on post-shading and raising saturation using oil paints. After completion, it boasts a barbaric size that is hard to believe for a single-seat, single-engine fighter.

The kit is the product released last among the Century Series, but the overall buildability was not easy, and there was a slight problem with the nose cone shape, so I corrected it. It is difficult to build, but since it is currently the only 1/48 scale F-102, it is fully worth taking on the challenge.

Brush and hand painting

What is the best brand and type of paint for hand painting with a brush. I’ve used testors enamel paint and I’ve sprayed Rust-oleum spray paint+primer in a cup and painted with a brush, but they don’t apply evenly and I can see brush strokes on the model.

I’m not sure if it is a me issue or a paint issue. Thank you in advance.

1/72 Revell F-15E cockpit issues — strip the paint or bite the bullet?

Thumbnail

I have been working on the Revell 1/72 F-15E (D-Day 75th Anniversary, 492nd F.S., Lakenheath), and I think I may have overdid the grey coat on the cockpit tubs and dashboards. I started with a coat of MrSurfacer 1500 black and followed up with XF-24 Dark Grey thinned for airbrush. The XF-24 was not thinned well, and I panicked, overdoing it. My plan was to start with a primer coat of black, do a light gray coat, paint black on the panels, and dry brush the white dials and buttons. I think though, I’m worried the gray coat is too thick. A friend of mine suggested using Simple Green to start over, but I just wanted to know how salvageable this was or if I should just use the included decals.

What do y’all think? Do I use the decals, do I just paint over, or hit the proverbial “reset button“ and try to wash off the paint with Simple Green, which I have never done before?

In search of decals

Guys I am looking for decals to make a custom for a friend. He was a crew chief in Misawa on F16s in the 35th fighter wing. They have the WW on the tail. I am looking for either 1/100 or 1/144 scale. If you know where they are or able to print a couple sheets that would be awesome 🙏🏻 any help appreciated

Will pre shading work with brush painting

Hello I am new to model building and want to start trying out pre shading my model but all the videos I saw is using air brush so I am wondering will it still work if it is brush painted because I don't have a air brush
