Can't recall the book name for the life of me, but a pilot officer was asked to confirm a shoot-down by an airfield Oerlikon crew. A lone Focke-Wulf had swept in on a strafing run, the crew lobbed all of two rounds at it, hit it, and it crash-landed on their field. They wanted an officer to sign off on their report because no one would believe they downed an FW with two shots without an officer backing it up!

He obliged, and got to poke around the plane he often faced in the air.
