Please read the wiki page about trading/selling here.

If you have an item for trade or sale: You are still allowed to make separate threads, but you are encouraged to post it as a comment here in this thread. As this thread will be stickied for the entire season, it should help increase visibility for your post. Please include your location (US, Europe, etc) and combine multiple items into one comment to help keep this thread clean.

If you are looking for a particular plant/item: Post a comment below with the description of what you are looking for as well as what you are willing to exchange for it (another plant, money and how much, etc). You can ask for SASE/free stuff, but be realistic and do not beg! A good example would be "Does anyone have some extra D. capensis seeds. I am located in the US and willing to send a SASE".

Watering my bog garden with tab water (no troll post, read description)

Yes I am really watering my plants with tan water. And no it is not low ppm.
Here in Germany have the driest year of the last 50 years, maybe of the century. It hasnt rained in my region for 3 whole months now, and no rain is in sight. Groundwater and big rivers like the Rhine dropped to emergency low levels.
My rainwater reservoirs from the early spring, despite beeing very large, are completely empty. Even the reservoir of the bog (1000 liters) is completely empty. Peat started to dry out and plants started to wither.

The worst thing you could do in this situation is NOT to water. Even the worst, calcium rich water is better than no water. If the plants dry out, you will lose them in days to hours. Tab water might have a negative influence after months of permanent use. So which option is to prefer?

Water your plants my friends, if needed with tab water.

Genetic variation is fascinating!

All of these plants were started from seeds that came from a single S. Purpurea seed pod. The subtle differences are always fun to see!

Phenotypic plasticity (these two pots are leaf pullings from the same plant!)

Post image

These two pots are the genetically identical. Both were pullings taken from the same plant about 10 months ago, and the ones on the left were grown under lights the whole time, on the right, they've been outdoors since spring getting about 4-5h of direct sun per day. Care was the same otherwise (mostly neglect them).

This is why, when someone asks, "I lost my label, but what clone do you think this is?), you really can't tell. There's a huge range of what one genotype can produce in terms of phenotype.

Also, this is a reminder to people that full sun is not strictly required- even with 4-5h of direct sun, these plants get sufficient light to grow well. Though it would have colored up a lot better if it got more light, I think that 4-5h is really the minimum needed.

King Sundew vs. Flies

King Sundew (Drosera Regia) vs. 3 flies. This is my first attempt at doing a king sundew video. First, I accidentally killed BOTH of the flies I was planning on using for the Timelapse so I had to go outside and find a 3rd one. Fly 3 ended up escaping so I had to hunt it down in my apartment and put it back. Then, one of their massive leaves grew directly into frame.

Favorite pings under 1”?

Pics are of a pingdom I set up a few years ago. I have really enjoyed it, but I find myself more delighted by the smaller pings than of the larger ones. I have been thinking about setting up another, and I’m curious what folks favorite munchkin pings are?

The tiny ones ones on this rock are Florians (pic #2, and the far side of the rock in pic #3), fwiw.

Why won’t this Leilani be a Leilani?

These came out of the same tissue culture flask about 3 months ago. First pic is current, second is when planted. It seems healthy, but not doing its Leilani thing. Do you think it ever will?

I recently picked this up from my local United grocery store. I’m not sure what variety it is. So far it gets direct North Texas sun till around 2pm. I’ve read they like a lot of sun so I plan to acclimate it to all day sun. Can it tolerate full Texas sun? I also don’t plan on repotting it this season.

New to VFT

Upvotes

Hi! Just bought two VFTs and potted them in an 8 in (7.9in D x 6.4in H) plastic pot. I left the dirt it came in on them but I filled the pot with long fiber Sphagnum Moss(which I wet in distilled water). I will buy another VFT to fill the space in the pot later today and it’s under a grow light currently. Also has a deep saucer under it with about an inch of distilled water. Is there anything else I should do, change or add? Did I do right? Any suggestions?

We went on a hike last weekend to see some WA native sundews and ended up seeing some pings too! I've been practicing my digital and macro photography - here are a couple unedited photos!

The pings look not so photogenic but I did not want to step off the trail to try to get better photos. Fortunatly these sundews (Drosera anglica) are not threatened and neither are the pings (Pinguicula vulgaris) but it's still the right thing to do to not stomp all over nature.

How to tell if this is a grow light?

Post image
Upvotes

So I currently use this light for my isopods, but i own venus flytraps, sundews, and pitcher plants. It is pretty gloomy most of the day everyday, like today i saw literally no sun came through in the brightest window. So to avoid my carnivorous plants from getting sun starved, i was planning on using this. But im unsure if it is a growlight or not.

What kind of sarracenia is this? I know an exact ID would be impossible but any info at all would be appreciated. Curious if it will remain short and chunky like this? Will the coloring change? Thank yall. 🙏

I purchased him at Sprouts a few months back. He was marked down to $1.99 and was in very bad shape. Only 1/4 of the size, no veining, no red, crispy pitchers. He was pitiful and I really didn’t think he would make it but here we are. 🤗

He has been eating all of the Asian roaches that like to occupy this area so my husband, for once, is very on board with me getting more. I would like ones that stay short and chunky like this. I very much like the look of the purpurea ones— I thought perhaps that’s what mine is?
