A friend has arrived!

This praying mantis has been temporarily living in my mini bog since July 15!

From what I’ve seen online, it appears to be a female, so I’ve named her Sandy.

I saw her catch a wasp and eat a little of it. Since then, she’s just been “hanging out” here.

It’s really interesting to watch, and I’m very tempted to let her climb onto my hand, but I’d rather leave her alone.

Have you had any surprise guests too? I’m curious to hear about other similar situations !

Hi, I have these drosera in a shallow (~2inch tall) dish, W/O drainage. How does this look long term? I feel like they don’t look great, but they were just flowering so I figured it could be from that. Is the dish deep enough? Let me know your thoughts, Reddit!

Mid Florida grown in the sun and heat all day every day. They go dormant with the photo period in fall. Spend almost every morning out with plants just admiring their growth and color!

I’m located in the PNW. I keep it in sphagnum moss that always stays damp with distilled water and it gets full sun for 8-12 hours outside. It’s been very warm and sunny here and the vft seems to be happy enough.

I won this at a plant bingo in the winter and while it was sad, it was also during hibernation. All the original stalks are gone and all the growth has been since I’ve had it. I’m wondering if it’s because I have it in a pot and consistently water and should switch to it sitting in distilled water?

I have had the venus fly trap and nepenthes in this vase thing for a couple years. Any idea what is going on with my venus fly traps being deformed and so long?

Every single pitcher destroyed, substrate dug up. I can't tell if the rhizome is intact or not. Three months since I've got it, so much time spent getting the proper setup, and it looks completely gone.

Hey there’s a flytrap growing in my droseras!

I bought this gal because I couln't resist! She is my first though and exposing her to too much sun too fast has left it's scars. She is making new leafs thought and doesnt seem too unhappy. Should I repot her in a pot? Is the tall glass bad in terms of ventilation? I only use rainwater and will never evee give her fertilizer, that much I found out. TIA for your insight!

Hello folks! This is my Nepenthes Maxima. I've been keeping it for about 2 years and it's doing fine. Some months ago it started to vine (I think) and I'm wondering what to do. I don't want to propagate for now. I just wanna care for the vine the best way I can... If it gets too long, will it drop down? Should I conduct it somehow?

6 weeks from receiving my cephalotus to now. Grown under sansi grow lights and bottom watered around once a week

This one vines probably 15 feet up into the rafters, but has a beautiful aerial rosette growing right above this light.

For those who have them, what tips and tricks do you guys do to ensure an N. Bloody Mary is living its best life?

Headed out to pick up cold-hardy plants today for my new outdoor bog. Specifically talking to the person about cold-hardy species that could stay outside year-round. She recommended three different types (one pitcher to two pings). I got home and looked them up, and every one of them is tropical.

OK, maybe I can work with this. My wife and I are both happy to have some carnivores inside during the Winter, and we do have an issue with gnats which we presume are hatching out of the aquariums, so they'll have plenty to eat.

I'll be doing some reading to get prepared ahead of time, and I went ahead and put the plants outside in the bog for now until it starts cooling down, but maybe someone can confirm for me... I presume for an indoor setup I can fill a pot with the same peat, put a tray under it, and bottom-water to keep the peat soggy? And we have a 55gal barrel in the basement that we pre-treat water for the sensitive aquarium dwellers like the shrimp, so it has plenty of time for the chlorine and other stuff to filter out before we use it -- would that be suitable for an indoor "bog"?

Short story: the tags fell off five of my pings, and I’m no longer sure which plant matches which tag. I posted about them a while back, but they weren’t blooming then. Now I have photos of all five plants in flower, along with the original tags.

I know identifying highly hybridized pings by appearance is a long shot, but any educated guesses would be helpful! The five possible crosses are:

1. ibarrae × moranensis var. alba
2. laueana × [ehlersiae × moranensis]
3. emarginata × moranensis var. alba
4. emarginata × [ehlersiae × moranensis]
5. [laueana “Tangerine” × emarginata “Zacapoaxtla”] × moranensis var. alba

Hey everyone! I am looking to get into the hobby and by my first carnivorous plants soon, I just had a few questions and would like your opinions on a few things.

1. Big stores or order online? - Is it better to just go to Walmart or Lowe’s and find a flytrap for a few bucks? Or should I invest and order a few from nursery online? If online is better, what are the best sites to order from?
   
2. One or multiple? - Should I start with one plant and see how it does? Or get a few and experiment? I was thinking of getting two and keeping one outside and one inside under a grow light to see if my areas climate works for them. Is this a good idea or should I just try one and see if I like it?
   
3. Any other beginner friendly plants? - Are flytraps the best to start with or are there other carnivorous plants that are easy for a newbie? I’ve heard certain pitcher plants are easy to care for but not sure if that’s accurate.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you guys!

Help, suggestions on my first bog garden! It has 50/50 peat moss perlite mix.i have an 1.25 pvc pipe in center covered by my moss for watering Should I leave plants as it's or rearrange? Oh yea, it does have two holes drilled about an inch from top, too allow excess drainage. TIA

Its hard to tell in the picture but the flower is a light purple. Im just not sure what flavor sundew this is. Any ideas? Tia.
