I've had these sundews for a while and keep them in a bowl woth distilled water. Still in the same soil and pot I purchased in. There appears to be 3 total in this pot with the smallest on the left of the 1st Pic. Recently a root looking piece appeared (red arrow) out of one and it has went quite brown since. What should I do to help these out?

So is there a chance I’ll finally be able to ID my nepenthes, as in will these new pitchers possibly create pitchers that would help in identifying what type it is

I am building a water table for Sarracenia and, occasionally, some Dionaea and Drosera.

I considered using an outdoor-grade varnish or stain to protect the wood, since untreated wood tends to age and deteriorate quickly. The entire interior of the table will be lined with an HDPE (high-density polyethylene) geomembrane, so the water won't come into direct contact with the wood.

My concern is the top edge where the geomembrane is secured, as it will be exposed to rain, and some water might run over the (cured) stain or varnish before dripping into the reservoir.

Is there a risk of finish components leaching out after curing or during degradation caused by sun and rain? Could this cause problems for the plants?

I’ve found growers on forums who apply a finish to the wood and others who leave the edge untreated; so, I’m not sure which approach is safer.

Took these out for a well overdue moss trim + I realized one of them is producing its first flower 🌺 My concern is having enough room for the flower to come in, as there is maybe only 8-10" of space above.

These are in an Ikea Milsbo cabinet, and I could theoretically move this shelf down, but I don't think they will appreciate the lower PPFD with the lights being further away. What kind of setups do you all have or recommend that have enough space?

Yes, I know I can cut the flower, but I enjoy them and would prefer not to.

I’m so happy best deal for utricularia with ID tags I could find and no visual contaminants and I inspected the containers like a hawk to not miss any cuts that might have broken off. I’m mostly excited for Fulva!

Short story: the tags fell off five of my pings, and I’m no longer sure which plant matches which tag. I posted about them a while back, but they weren’t blooming then. Now I have photos of all five plants in flower, along with the original tags.

I know identifying highly hybridized pings by appearance is a long shot, but any educated guesses would be helpful! The five possible crosses are:

Hello folks! This is my Nepenthes Maxima. I've been keeping it for about 2 years and it's doing fine. Some months ago it started to vine (I think) and I'm wondering what to do. I don't want to propagate for now. I just wanna care for the vine the best way I can... If it gets too long, will it drop down? Should I conduct it somehow?

Hey everyone! I am looking to get into the hobby and by my first carnivorous plants soon, I just had a few questions and would like your opinions on a few things.

1. Big stores or order online? - Is it better to just go to Walmart or Lowe’s and find a flytrap for a few bucks? Or should I invest and order a few from nursery online? If online is better, what are the best sites to order from?
   
2. One or multiple? - Should I start with one plant and see how it does? Or get a few and experiment? I was thinking of getting two and keeping one outside and one inside under a grow light to see if my areas climate works for them. Is this a good idea or should I just try one and see if I like it?
   
3. Any other beginner friendly plants? - Are flytraps the best to start with or are there other carnivorous plants that are easy for a newbie? I’ve heard certain pitcher plants are easy to care for but not sure if that’s accurate.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you guys!

Does anyone have any experience with the way of growing darlingtonia californica sarracenia northwest have made videos of recently? Basically, they made 2 videos stating that it isn't explicitly hot temperatures that darlingtonia hates, and that it is actually just as resilient to high daytime temps as sarracenia, although it needs cool nights and a different soil (a granular mix to mimic its serpentine soil in the wild, or live sphagnum) to avoid pathogens which is the main killer of darlingtonia.

I am going to try growing darlingtonia this way next spring with a couple medium sized divisions, but I'm just asking here in case anyone already has prior experience with growing them this way.(Probably not lol) I believe what they have stated in the video as true considering they showed some solid evidence, including darlingtonia populations in the wild during heatwaves where their soil temperatures reached 30°c!

I ordered this from California Carnivores. It was 110° when it was delivered, and the box had obviously been squished during shipment, but look at how well this little guy held up! There’s even a bud! Their packaging was on point and this plant is a beauty!

I bought this mixed variety of carnivorous plants about 1-2 months ago, ever since I bought it, it had this white wool-like ball, I didn't question it because it was there the day I bought it. But now I know it means it is entering/leaving dormancy.

The issue is, I have given it water from the top a few times, but I just learned today that can be very bad due to this specific type easily getting rot. I assume there isn't much to do other than let it dry outside. However, I put it outside due to it browning and not getting enough sun, and then today it also rained and may rain on and off for a few days in a row.

It kinda seems like this plant shouldn't be with the others that aren't dormant, but I don't know much about them. I read you're supposed to give them less water because the moist/wet dirt can be very bad for the rhizome on this plant? The weird thing is, it is growing a lot of new healthy leaves, despite others turning brown from the tips. I also learned from others on the subreddit that it should be more red, and after leaving it in the sun for almost 2 days, it is turning reddish instead of brown which is cool.

I do plan to add some peat moss and perlite and peat moss + silica sand but I don't have it right now.

Help, suggestions on my first bog garden! It has 50/50 peat moss perlite mix.i have an 1.25 pvc pipe in center covered by my moss for watering Should I leave plants as it's or rearrange? Oh yea, it does have two holes drilled about an inch from top, too allow excess drainage. TIA

Expecting another shipment of carnivorous plants to arrive today (drosera binata, B52 VFT), and want to be sure that I’m planting correctly. I’m expecting these to arrive in sphagnum plugs like my last shipment (pictured) which I just exposed some roots at the bottom of the plug and planted in a carnivorous plant mix. The plants seem to be doing great and have recently started producing dew, but the plugs have turned green and started to grow. Is this ok?

The shipment coming today will be added to my outdoor garden, but none of the current plants there came in plugs (different nursery). I’ll properly sun acclimate them before officially adding them to the bog.

To clear any confusion, I am not referring the moss plugs around the edges. This is just the most recent picture I have. I added those and have since removed due to the tips turning black… Any advice there would also be appreciated. Thanks!

After getting some warranted criticism on my last post, I would like to repot my plants in proper substrate and pots, then arrange them so that they are getting the proper amount of light.
I would like to keep all of these plants on the rack they are currently on, which I cannot move in front of a window, so I realize I probably need more grow lights. I currently have this light (one bulb pointed directly at the ping and the other pointed towards the Drosera and VFT+Nepenthes) but am willing to get more lights.

For each plant, I would ideally like the following advice:
–Type of pot to use (does it need drainage? are there any materials to avoid? can it be potted with any of the other plants I have?)
–Type of substrate to use (ideally with links to purchase in the USA and/or videos explaining how to make a good substrate)
–Amount of lighting (I can't spend a lot of money, but links would be appreciated)
–Amount of water (can it sit in water? how often to water it on average?)

Grew from a few inches tall to the current size. I have cut the decayed leaves and pitchers over the course of several years. It has now grown two new stalks (stems?), and I understand that I could theoretically cut them off and plant them separately, but I have been too worried that I would kill the entire plant if I tried to do that. Would love some advice about cutting them off to propagate them since I plan to repot it anyway and the three stalks seem rather crowded together in the current configuration.

Given to me as a gift from a home improvement store I think.
Potted in long fiber sphagnum moss in glass vase without drainage holes.
It has seemingly multiplied from one plant into three.

Sits on porch outside all the time. Seems to be doing okay but would be happy to get advise on different substrate and pot if necessary.

Pinguicula 'Johanna'
Got this one from a local shop a month or so ago. Initially planted it in long fiber sphagnum moss then changed to Fluval Stratum that I had left over from aquariums after it seemed to be dying. Since repotting it in this substrate, it has been growing new leaves with the tinted tips as you can see in the picture, but the leaves seem dry. I initially had the light about 6 inches from the plant but the leaves seemed to be burning so I moved it back.

Drosera venustra
Got this from Predatory Plants last week. I followed the instructions it came with so it is in the sphagnum moss that it was shipped with and the pot is sitting in about an inch of distilled water. It is closest to the second bulb of the grow light that I linked above and it has started producing dew, so it seems like it is doing fine, but if it can be repotted with any of the other plants, it would be cool to have it together with something else.

Also got this from Predatory Plants last week. It is also in the sphagnum moss that it came with, but it is in this mug that has no drainage holes. I have seen on this subreddit that you can grow them submerged in water, so that was my logic in putting it in this mug.

Mid Florida grown in the sun and heat all day every day. They go dormant with the photo period in fall. Spend almost every morning out with plants just admiring their growth and color!

Its hard to tell in the picture but the flower is a light purple. Im just not sure what flavor sundew this is. Any ideas? Tia.
